Stephanie straighten up in her seat upon hearing the doorbell. "Can I get the door, Mom?" She asked her mother with those round expecting eyes.
"Sure, go ahead. But make sure it's your Mommy before opening the door, okay?" Taeyeon reached out to brush off the crumbs on her daughter's face.
"Okay!" The little girl gave her a wide smile before hurrying to get the door.
Taeyeon couldn't help but smile at how excited her daughter was. After finishing on what's left on her toast, she quietly cleaned the table and washed the dirty plates. She heard a loud squeal from Stephanie, followed by some enthusiastic chatters from the two. It has been way too long since the last time their home got brighten up which left Taeyeon in a bittersweet feeling.
"Mommy, Mommy!" Stephanie eagerly dragged her mother into the dining room and sat back on her chair. "We prepared breakfast for you!" She pointed at the untouched plate of eggs, bacon, and toast.
"Really?" Tiffany chuckled as she took her seat.
"Yes! I did beat the eggs this time! And toasted the bread too!"
"Did you really?" Tiffany teased as she tapped the girl's nose.
"She did, right Steph?" Taeyeon came back with a cup of coffee and slid it to Tiffany. "She even added some secret ingredient."
"Oh." Tiffany smiled at the girl's beaming face. "What is it?" She mouthed to Taeyeon and raised her brows when she mouthed sugar in return.
Taeyeon just sat there in silence as she watched the two chat along and enjoyed breakfast. Seeing their little family complete, albeit temporarily, had turned her mellow mood into a momentary bliss.

"Thank you for tucking her in. She had never agreed to afternoon naps this fast before." Taeyeon said with a faint smile on her face after Tiffany left their daughter's room.
"That's because you spoil her too much." Tiffany shook her head in feigned disapproval. "You're welcome by the way."
"Do you mind if I leave you by yourself for a while? I still have to finish editing some stuff." Taeyeon asked warily after a moment of silence.
"No, no, it's okay. I'll just stay in the living room."
"Uh, okay. If you need anything, you know where to find me." Taeyeon pointed at the closed door along the hallway.
"Sure."

"Taeyeon?" Tiffany peeked behind the door, seeing Taeyeon busy typing on her laptop.
"Yes?"
"Are you busy?"
"Why?"
"Steph wants you to join us in watching the movie." Tiffany let herself in and stood right at the doorway.
"Oh." Taeyeon quickly saved the edited document and closed her laptop. "Sure, I'll be there in a second. Let me just tidy these things up." She stacked the papers and folders neatly before walking to Tiffany. "You didn't have to wait."
"I'm just... making sure you're coming."
"Right." Taeyeon let out a light chuckle at Tiffany's embarrassed look. "Alright, let's go."

They had watched the same movie about a hundred times now but that surely didn't stop Taeyeon from enjoying every second of it. This short alone time with her family was definitely worth ditching her editorial work, she would just pull an all-nighter the next day.
"What's for dinner, Mom?" Stephanie turned to Taeyeon after the movie had ended.
"You're hungry already? You ate the entire bowl of popcorn, baby." Taeyeon pointed at the empty bowl on the coffee table.
"But Mom..." The little girl pouted.
"Okay, okay. I was just teasing you." Taeyeon ruffled the girl's head. "What do you want for dinner?"
"Can we have Mommy's spaghetti for dinner?" Stephanie turned to her mothers with pleading eyes.
"Sure, but we have to buy some ingredients first."
"Then let's go to the grocery store!"
"Alright." Taeyeon chuckled as the little girl immediately scurried to her room. "You don't mind, do you...?" She asked worriedly upon realizing she didn't ask for Tiffany's permission.
"Not at all." Tiffany couldn't help but smile when Taeyeon let out a relieved sigh.
"Alright. Let me just get Steph."
"Sure, take your time."

Taeyeon just watched and followed the two as they went to different aisles to buy the ingredients. The entire time they spent at the small grocery shop, the smile on her face never left. They ended up buying more than what they needed and immediately went home.
"How about you watch some TV while we prepare the food, baby?" Tiffany told her daughter after placing the bags on the counter.
"Alright!" Stephanie nodded obediently and went back to the living room.
The kitchen was filled with silence as Taeyeon and Tiffany busied themselves in preparing dinner. As Taeyeon waited for the spaghetti to be cooked, she quietly watched Tiffany making the sauce.
"Is there something on my face?" Tiffany asked, laughing lightly at Taeyeon's flushed face. "You've been staring for quite some time that I just can't ignore it."
"Uh. I'm just... I was just..."
"It's okay, Taeyeon. I was just kidding." Tiffany turned to Taeyeon and gave her a light pat on the arm.
"I'm just... so happy. That's all. I'm sorry." Taeyeon looked at the hand slowly leaving her before turning to Tiffany. "Steph has been really happy these couple of weeks, even her teacher noticed." She maintained her gaze and smiled. "Thank you for spending your time with us. I know how busy you are."
Tiffany sighed and turned off the stove. "I should be the one thanking you. I don't deserve this... kindness but here you are..."
"Hey, I told you. It's okay." Taeyeon reached out to hold her hand and unknowingly lingered for a moment. "No hard feelings."
Tiffany was speechless as she stared back at those gentle, loving gaze. She felt her lips tremble and before she knew it, tears were slowly running down her cheeks.
"What's wrong...?" Taeyeon hesitantly opened her arms and engulf the woman into a hug. "Why are you crying? Please don't cry...?" She cooed as she rubbed Tiffany's back soothingly.
"I-I shouldn't have left... I'm s-so sorry, Taeyeon." Tiffany said in between muffled cries. "W-what I chose... it wasn't worth it... Now I-I'm just... all alone."
Taeyeon only nodded in return, letting out a deep sigh.
"I-I shouldn't have listened to them." Tiffany pulled away and wiped her cheeks. "I... I should've chosen you. I'm so sorry..."
"It's okay. I totally understand." Taeyeon stepped closer and held the woman's face. "Besides, I didn't want to be on your dad's bad side more than I've already had." She chuckled sadly.
"But..."
Taeyeon shook her head when Tiffany was about to say more and gave her another hug.

Dinner went well thanks to Stephanie's enthusiasm and before they knew it, it was time for Tiffany to leave.
"But Mom!" Stephanie thrashed in Taeyeon's arms, little tears running down her face.
"Baby, we already talked about this." Taeyeon tried to wipe the tears as she held the girl. "Mommy can't spend the night here. She has to work, remember?"
"No..." The little girl weakly hit her mother's shoulder and cried.
"Baby, no more crying now. Mommy will visit you soon, okay?" Taeyeon cooed and only got another hit in return. "I'm so sorry. She's not usually like this." She turned to Tiffany with an apologetic look.
"It's okay." Tiffany reached out for their daughter. "Come here, baby." She opened her arms wider and Stephanie immediately held onto her, burying her face into the woman's hair.
"Can't you stay longer, Mommy?"
The little girl's sad tone broke Tiffany's heart and inadvertently turned to Taeyeon. "Will you stop crying if I stay longer?"
"Yes." Stephanie pulled away and rubbed her eyes.
"Promise?"
"Yes." The little girl nodded.
"Okay." Tiffany smiled a little when the crying stopped. "Is it... okay if I spend the night here?" She asked worriedly upon seeing the slight frown on Taeyeon's face.
"Sure, no problem. I'm so sorry for troubling you."
"It's no trouble."
"I'll just... get you a change of clothes then." Taeyeon spoke after a moment of silence.

"Can't we sleep in Mom's room?" The little girl reached out for Taeyeon's hand.
"Baby, your Mommy needs to..."

"Good night, baby." Tiffany gave her daughter a kiss on the forehead. "Good night, Taeyeon." She smiled at the still flustered woman, giving her hand a light pat.
"G-good night, Tiffany." Taeyeon let out a quiet sigh upon seeing Tiffany closing her eyes. Her heart was thumping wildly as it was, and it didn't get any better when she felt the fingers subtly entwining with her own. That night, she barely had any sleep but it was instantly forgotten when she woke up the next day with Tiffany snuggled up to them.
