BTS Coffee was the best café known to PNU students. Of course the coffee was very good, but there was no doubt that the most popular attraction by far was the handsome owners and baristas.

Mingyu stepped in, relieved to find he had arrived before Wonwoo. He approached the counter and was pleased to find that the one barista he didn’t want present was, in fact, not.

“MINGYU! WHERE THE HELL HAVE YOU BEEN KID?!”

Mingyu chuckled, “Dying, Hoseok hyung.”

“We’re all dying, Gyu. It’s a part of life.”

“He means studying, Namjoon.”

“Shut up, Yoongi.”

Mingyu couldn’t help but laugh as he saw his hyungs bicker. He would visit the café more often if it wasn’t for the fact that his brother was a barista there. He loves his brother, don’t get him wrong, but he also knows his brother can be overprotective. He wanted to get through his freshman year with little to no help from Taehyung. Besides…

“Taehyung doesn’t work today,” Seokjin, one of the owners, said snapping Mingyu out of his thoughts.

“I know…that was kind of the point,” Mingyu admitted sheepishly.

“Date?”

Mingyu nodded.

Seokjin chuckled, “Well I’ll whip up something special then.”

Mingyu beamed at the older.

“YOU HAVE A DATE!” Hoseok yelled, having overheard the conversation.

A loud crashing sound was heard from the kitchen and it didn’t take long before two young men came running out.

“WHO’S GOT A DATE? MINGYU! MINGYU?” The two exclaimed in perfect unison.

“Why do you sound so surprised?” Mingyu muttered bitterly.

“YAH! PARK JIMIN! JEON JUNGKOOK! GO FINISH THOSE DISHES, THEN YOU CAN BOTHER GYU ABOUT HIS DATE!” Yoongi, the other owner, yelled.

“You heard the boss,” Namjoon, who had been arguing with who he referred to as “the boss” not too long ago, said giving the boys a stern look.

Both of them pouted and made their way back into the kitchen, muttering something about how the dishes would take forever.

“Gyu, go sit down in the corner booth. That way when customers come in, you have more privacy,” Mingyu smiled and accepted Yoongi’s suggestion.

Once in the booth, he couldn’t help but miss the times he was always sitting in the café, watching his brother work. Kim Taehyung was the best older brother anyone could ask for. He was kind, generous, and hard working. He was a little strange too, but without him, Mingyu’s life wouldn’t be very exciting.

In high school, he always came to the café just to spend time with his brother. That was how he met her.

It’s funny what your first heartbreak does to you. It makes you feel worthless, like nothing even mattered anymore, especially yourself. You mattered the least of all.

He remembers the first time he saw her sitting in the café. Taehyung had been flirting for about 5 minutes when she actually got up and moved as far away from him as possible.

Mingyu tried to hold in his laughter as his brother came over to him sporting a pout.

“What did I do?” she asked slumping into the booth.

“She’s trying to study hyung. Last thing she needs is a distraction.”

“Well she could have just said that!” Taehyung said, raising his voice just a bit for dramatic effect. He didn’t expect her to actually hear him and look up. Taehyung immediately ducked lower into the booth he was in, causing Mingyu to laugh more at his brother’s expense.

His eyes flickered towards the girl to see what she would do next and found her smirking in his direction. He didn’t know why but his laugh immediately died down and he felt himself getting warmer. After what felt like an eternity of eye contact she motioned for him to come over to her.

Mingyu went running out the door.

The girl raised her eyebrows, amused, the smirk never leaving . Fun, she thought.

The sound of the front door opening snapped Mingyu out of his daze. Honestly speaking, he was pretty nervous about the date. The nerves went away as soon as he saw Wonwoo walking towards him with a beautiful smile on his face.

“Hey.”

“Hey.”

“OH MY GOD HE’S HOT!”

Both of them turned to find Yoongi dragging Hoseok into the kitchen while Seokjin gave them an apologetic smile.

“Well, that brightened up my day, I guess.”

Mingyu chuckled, “Hoseok hyung tends to have that effect on people. That or creeping people out.”

“Well I’m flattered my hotness was worthy of his outburst.”

They both continued to laugh until they heard someone clear their throat.

“So, are you gonna buy something or…?” Yoongi asked.

“I’ll have a vanilla latte and…”

“I’ll have the same.”

Yoongi nodded and disappeared into the kitchen.

“He’s such a businessman I swear,” Mingyu muttered under his breath.

Wonwoo chuckled and looked around the café. It wasn’t overly decorated, but it wasn’t simple either.

“I’ve only been here once before, when I first started attending PNU. I had a group project and they wanted to meet here.”

“WHAT?! This place is amazing, best place to come and get some studying done.”

“And yet,you seem to coop yourself up in your room instead of coming here,” Wonwoo raised an eyebrow at him.

Mingyu blushed, he knew it was hypocritical of him, but he had his reasons for not coming here.

“Besides, Changkyun…. didn’t really like going out on dates and he’s not much of a coffee drinker either…”

Mingyu stiffened at the mention of Wonwoo’s ex. Wonwoo took noticed and trailed off.

“I’m sorry, I just…I learned something this morning and-“

“Jaebum?”

“How did you-?”

“Jisoo hyung might have texted me while Jeonghan hyung was telling his story.”

“Ah, got it.”

Yoongi returned with their lattes as well as with a loaf of honey bread.

“The chef made me bring this out,” he grumbled.

“Thank you Seokjin hyung!”

Seokjin sent them a wink from the counter.

Yoongi rolled his eyes and smiled, ”Bone Applebee’s and all that good-“

“HYUNG! DON’T GRUMBLE ALL OVER MY BROTHER’S DATE!”

Oh no.

“Hyung?”

“Gyugyu! I missed you!”

Taehyung must have come in from the back because a) Mingyu was facing the door and no one had come in, b) his brother was panting as If he ran a marathon but in reality he was probably fighting his way through the kitchen, and c) Namjoon was pulling Jimin up by the ear from his hiding spot.

Mingyu rolled his eyes and grunted as he slammed his head on the table. It was painful but not as painful as having his brother intrude on his date. He had this coming though, he should have just taken Wonwoo to a movie.

Taehyung approached the booth and ruffled his little brother’s hair before turning to smile at Wonwoo.

“Kim Taehyung. This cute dork’s favorite brother.”

“You’re my only brother.”

A collective gasp was heard from the rest of the staff.

“Next time, I won’t make honey bread,” Jin muttered bitterly.

“Alright, who told him I was here?”

Namjoon scoffed, “No one, kid has a sixth sense when it comes to embarrassing you.”

“Actually he came for his check. I forgot I told him to come in today, sorry,” Yoongi shrugged. He didn’t look very sorry.

Mingyu sighed and realized he was doomed no matter what so he went along with his brother’s game. If he didn’t, Taehyung would whine about it for at least a week and he didn’t need any text messages at 4am that say ‘You hate me :(.’

“Hyung, this is Jeon Wonwoo.”

“Nice to meet you,” Wonwoo said as he stood up and politely bowed at Taehyung, who bowed back.

“Whoa, you’re polite AND handsome. Gyu, you better hold on to this one tight. Like put a ring on him ASA-“

“Hyung, is there anything you needed that was so important you had to interrupt my date?”

“Oh yeah, I just wanted to give the usual speech, hurt my brother and I hurt you, blah blah blah. Anyways, Won gets the point. I’ll be off now. Be safe,” he said while winking at them and ran into the kitchen.

Mingyu was left stunned while Wonwoo just giggled at the brothers’ interaction.

“I’m so sorry about him,” Mingyu said as soon as he could find his voice.

Wonwoo smiled, “I understand, I have a brother too.”

“Does he embarrass you too?”

“Well I’m older so I do that to him. I understand your brother,” Wonwoo chuckled.

Mingyu groaned.

“He really cares about you.”

“He does,” Mingyu smiled.

The rest of the date went practically without incident, except when the workers got into a fight in the kitchen about who would be what at Mingyu and Wonwoo’s wedding.

“I’m clearly the best man, brothers before hoes…ers?”

“Well I’m the same age as him. Who would want some old geezer standing next to them at the alter?”Jungkook challenged Taehyung.

There was a loud crashing noise which resulted in Yoongi ‘going for a walk’ until he calmed down. Despite the embarrassment, Mingyu and Wonwoo agreed that it was much more entertaining than a movie. After a few hours of sitting and chatting, they decided to call it a day and Mingyu offered to walk Wonwoo home.

“Oh you don’t have to.”

“Duh, but I want to. I should know how far I have to go if one night I can’t sleep,” he replied with a wink.

Wonwoo slapped Mingyu’s arm for the lewd comment and quickly walked toward his apartment before Mingyu could notice his blush. Mingyu still saw it, making him laugh.
