part ix

the only thing that mingyu knew about this junhui character was that he was a dreamy chinese boy who was sophisticated and suave by day, boy (as mingyu kindly put it) by night, was also some sort of model student that was carved by the divine hands of above, was perfectly fluent in korean as well as his native tongue, has hair that felt like silk running fingers through, was toned and built (mingyu swore to work out more after the expenditure of food from the trip to jeju), had a fantastic smile, had features that anyone, and wonwoo meant anyone, would instantly fall for, and was just a chill, down-to-earth boy.

again: that’s the only thing mingyu knew about him.

he didn’t quite expect wonwoo to be absolutely correct about it that saturday they returned from their trip when the said boy was sitting in their living room, next to wonwoo, their fingers way too close for mingyu’s heart to handle, all big smiles and talking to each other in person again after so many months. wonwoo wouldn’t count the times that they’ve video called since yes, they saw each other’s faces and heard each other’s voices, but it wasn’t the same when a screen and hundreds of miles were separating them.

jihoon, who decided not to go home yet to also inform minghao on the junhui situation was seated next to mingyu, kicking his legs a bit to and fro.

“and who’s that cutie over there?” jun chuckled as he caught sight of the now silver haired boy just smiling to himself and throwing a casual wave to him.

“he’s jihoon. he.. is just visiting, i assume,” wonwoo slowly introduced, unsure of jihoon’s real intentions of being there but leaving it be because it was cute little jihoonie.

“so you’re spending your summer here?” mingyu wanted to get straight for the nth time in that hour.

junhui nodded, “i wanted to take my physics class somewhere and still get my international perspective credit too, so.. i researched the one you guys go to and they have the program that i wanted.”

… okay, mingyu could definitely agree with his voice.

“gyu, you don’t mind if he lives here with us until the five weeks are over do you?” wonwoo asked in a careful, almost pleading, tone. he wasn’t afraid of getting rejected, no, but it was just a safe measure for him.

now mingyu had two paths that completely diverged from each other in respect to the outcome of his answer choice. if he answers his beloved roommate with an affirmation to the request, then mingyu was almost certain that he would wake up to the two of them making breakfast together (didn’t wonwoo mention something about junhui being an amazing cook?) or lounging on the couch laughing about little nothings that mingyu would be third-wheeling for the next thirty five days. he was almost sure that he would be spending less and less time with wonwoo and more and more time alone in his room watching dramas on his own as he lived the second lead syndrome. he was definitely sure that jun would be joining in on their beer time together, and while they’ve let others join them from time to time, it was going to be so much different with the extra character because one, he didn’t know what kind of drunk junhui was, and two, what if they started to makeout again? on the couch? right in front of him?

his heart just wasn’t ready for that kind of thing to happen.

mingyu knew wonwoo too well, though. if he said no, or tried to be as rejecting but nice about it, wonwoo would definitely bring up all of the times he had allowed amber to stay with them for weeks at a time and argue that at least amber still had somewhere to go whereas junhui couldn’t make such a commute on a daily basis.

he just knew there was no way out of this.

“yeah! totally!” mingyu managed to answer cheerfully with a grin that looked a bit more forced than genuine, ignoring the slight pain that came when he saw how happy the duet was.

“thank you so much,” junhui dipped his head out of gratitude, making mingyu feel a bit awkward since he was definitely sure the other was older than him, but his manners were rather charming.

what if mingyu decided to fall for junhui…

“mingyu—”

the called person shook out of his reverie when jihoon nudged him a little, looking at the tissue that was offered to him in slight confusion.

“nose bleed.” jihoon kind of whispered as he motioned to mingyu’s nose, to which he hadn’t realized was making way for a small trail of blood to trickle down. he was certain that this came from the heat.

well, almost certain.

by the time the end of the second week of junhui’s stay rolled along, mingyu couldn’t take it.

he couldn’t take how nice and caring junhui was. not just toward wonwoo, but toward the two of them together. he couldn’t understand how he could show so much of the love and affection that was spoken through words during the video chat toward wonwoo and still be elegant about it, from the way he made sure wonwoo’s servings were just as right as his to the way he gave the two of them their space when needed.

he couldn’t understand how studious junhui was, if not more than wonwoo, when mingyu would come skipping in from another glorious day of doing nothing only to see the other busy studying on the dining table, completely far away from wonwoo who was probably doing the same thing in the comfort of his own room.

he definitely couldn’t understand how even though junhui still drank with them during their ritual eleven o’clock ritual that he stayed calm and collected, and not once has mingyu seen the club side of him arise as he only laughed and shared his two cents into the conversation when it called for it.

mingyu could see why wonwoo was so infatuated by him.

by the time tuesday rolled along, mingyu was laying on the couch, staring up at what was jeonghan’s stern face who was forced to welcome in the abandoned puppy in favor of giving wonwoo and junhui the apartment as a sanctuary of studies. it’s only been three days  since he had ‘moved in’ and jeonghan had had enough of walking into his precious abode only to see the taller male sprawled on the couch thinking about absolutely nothing.

“kim mingyu.”

“what.”

“go home.”

“no.”

and that was the conversation held between the two before jeonghan walked away to attend his own business once again.

it wasn’t like wonwoo and junhui were doing things alone in his absence, right? junhui is a nice boy, and he got to witness that in just half of the time he had in korea. there were no ill intentions that could be seen, nothing that could be posing a threat to the tightly bound friendship between mingyu and wonwoo, and… mingyu decided to think that he was just overreacting with this whole ‘giving them space to study’. not once was it mentioned that mingyu was being annoying, nor were they disturbed by his presence, but mingyu just wanted some attention. was that too much to ask?

amber couldn’t come to his rescue since she had flown back to california for her summer break.

jihoon was supposedly busy with soonyoung with the next scholastic year coming up and jihoon still not completed with his showcasing.

mingyu’s family… he was too lazy to drive to them.

he just wanted his summer to be filled with doing anything and everything with his bestfriend, that’s all, but even that was too much to ask of him since education started to become his priority.

that made mingyu wonder… where did he fit in wonwoo’s life?

wonwoo and junhui woke up for their third exam fairly early that friday, quizzing each other on the physics concepts at the last minute as they walked to their class after having eaten a small breakfast to get them through the day. it would’ve been nice to wake up with minds full of the notes and lectures that they were reviewing, but there was something else that invaded their minds at the moment. there was something that caused them to walk with smiles on their faces and fingers laced through each other’s, a scene any average joe would conclude that the two boys probably did more than just.. ‘study’.

it was eight pm when wonwoo walked through the apartment door, the bags under his eyes deeper and darker than ever as he dragged himself into the comfort of his apartment from being in the library all day after class. they were learning what seemed to be the hardest physics concept, and after the lab was completed, he still didn’t feel as confident as he wanted to on the knowledge of the topic, which initiated his second round of studying in the building. even that time alone, with his textbooks opened and every helpful online video probably watched in that time interval, wonwoo still didn’t feel up to par.

junhui could notice this as he watched the other flop onto the couch with a groan of frustration, putting his pencil down and stretching his neck from the same studying as he frowned toward the other boy.

“still don’t understand it?”

“ this class,” wonwoo grumbled.

the other boy couldn’t help but to chuckle softly as he walked over to wonwoo, sitting down on the floor in front of him and smoothing his fingers through his hair. he looked kind of cute all huffy and puffy like this, junhui thought to himself as he lent an ear to wonwoo’s protest.

“what is this.. spinning top theory thing that the professor expects us to master by tomorrow,” wonwoo frowned, “like.. i can’t even grasp what it is, how it’ll help me in my life, what good it’ll do to me, and just.. ugh!”

“i don’t entirely get it either, wonnie,” junhui soothed softly as he pushed the other’s hair back to look at him more clearly, “but don’t give up, hm? it’s not like we’re going to fail this test anyway.”

“i am.”

“wonwoo.”

“i’m gonna fail and get a b.”

“you are not—”

“i’m going to disappoint myself and get a horrible grade, i..”

my god, wonwoo is so thick, junhui thought to himself.

“wonwoo, calm down. we’ll just.. study together. how about that?”

“but what if i make you fail because of my dumbness?”

ing .

“you’re intelligent.”

“i’m not.”

“you’re a cute intelligent guy.”

wonwoo hitched a breath and looked at the smiling junhui, snorting softly to deny the way his cheeks slightly flushed.

“shut up, jun.”

junhui’s brow rose, taking this as a challenge as he rolled the other boy over on the couch and casually straddled his hips, sitting himself down and drawing mindless shapes on his chest. “you’re so stubborn.”

“i know,” wonwoo shrugged, not minding the comfortable shift in his position as his fingers crept up to rest on junhui’s hips, “and you’re so persistent.”

“i just want you to know the truth. you’re really cute when you’re pouty and like this. and. you’re really smart. and. i’m kind of craving a break from studying.” junhui smoothly confessed, pulling a smile onto his lips from the way wonwoo’s lips twitched upward in appreciation.”

“stop being all loveable and …” wonwoo murmured as he directed his gaze elsewhere, unaware that his fingers had crept up to shelter directly on junhui’s hips, to which junhui could only smile more at the way he was subtly breaking wonwoo down again.

“what did i do? you’re the one who fell for me on the spot,” junhui chimed with pride.

“i can’t threaten to kiss you to shut up anymore.” wonwoo growled.

“aw, wonwoo’s so weak~.”

“i hate you so much.”

“no you don’t.”

“you’re right.”

they ended the conversation in a small burst of soft laughter after wonwoo’s admission of defeat, the soft and sweet moment only continuing when junhui shut wonwoo up from trying to speak again with a long awaiting kiss that they’ve stayed clean of for the past few weeks. there was no building tension for it to happen, but it was so natural and the last time their lips had connected was during spring break after their fun time at the club, to which they still don’t know about mingyu witnessing the whole thing go down.

wonwoo further calmed down after the movement of lips, the coiling of tongues and the endless touches here and there. it was a fluffy moment filled with small chuckles from how junhui almost fell off twice, how wonwoo seemed to have tickled the elder as they smiled into the connection of their lips, how they tangled themselves into a world that excluded the dreaded hell of physics and only consisted of the two of them finally back together by pure chance.

kisses on the couch slowly led to more romantic actions, junhui surprising the other male as he stood from the couch with wonwoo’s legs wrapped around his waist, lips never detaching from the sweetness from the other’s as he staggered into wonwoo’s monochromatic bedroom and laid him on the mattress, the scene that happened to the two of them in junhui’s apartment being recreated at this moment. there was a mutual respect of consent as wonwoo’s shirt decorated the floor as well as junhui’s, their sounds becoming more and more sensual by the seconds. innocent grazes along their defined abs reached lower and lower, causing more fabrics to litter the carpet of wonwoo’s bedroom as they harmoniously slipped into their own definition of relaxation, junhui’s handling of wonwoo as gentle and caring as possible through their pleasures as he was blessed with soft groans of sensation from the previously stressed male.

if the creaks of the bed and the soft pants from the two of them didn’t ease wonwoo from the pain he was feeling just a mere two hours before as he laid next to junhui with a soft smile and fingers skimming along the barely glistening chest of junhui while his tresses were caressed and curled by junhui’s fingers as they cuddled under wonwoo’s sheets, then he didn’t know what would.

coming back to the exam they were about to take, wonwoo and junhui took their respective seats in the lecture hall twenty minutes early feeling quite prepared. although the two were still slack from the newly learned topic, wonwoo felt a bit more accepting about not scoring perfectly this time around and he only had junhui to thank for that.

a tap on the shoulder pulled wonwoo out of his thoughts as he looked up to a black haired boy who was standing in front of his desk. he looked fairly familiar, but wonwoo couldn’t quite put a finger on it.

“hey wonwoo, do you understand the spinning top theory or whatever?”

wonwoo slowly shook his head, still trying to recall who this person was.

“hey.. weren’t you in my psychology class in the spring?” wonwoo asked.

the boy slowly nodded his head. “still can’t remember my name, wonwoo?”

wonwoo vowed to brush up on his people-remembering skills at this moment.

“lee chan.”

ah! the boy who graduated early, wonwoo suddenly remembered.

“oh.. oh oh oh i remember now,” wonwoo grinned a bit embarrassedly.

“it’s fine,” chan shrugged as he rubbed at his nape, “not a lot of people pay attention to me anyway.”

the guilt that wonwoo felt was so unreal.

“anyway,” chan said as he leaned in with a small smile as he spoke in a whisper, “congratulations!”

wonwoo blinked. “for what?”

it was chan’s turn to blink. “for last night… i could hear it all go down while studying!”

“what the are you talking about?”

junhui couldn’t help but to listen in to the conversation though the others didn’t know as chan’s back was facing him.

“you and mingyu… bedroom…”

“i—” wonwoo froze.

the tension that rose between chan and wonwoo was enough for junhui to feel as well, staying mute to the conversation as he wore a small frown at the fact that the boy thought that it was mingyu who succeeded in milking wonwoo’s beautiful sounds out the previous night.

“mingyu wasn’t home yesterday…” wonwoo quietly told chan, his eyes still wide at the absurd thought.

“i.. then who.. that was definitely your voice i heard,” the younger boy continued talking, his facial expression morphing to one that almost represented him seeing a ghost of some sort.

wonwoo was still startled.

at that moment, there was a ding! that came from chan’s pocket, that alone causing him to drown deeper in the pool of fear that he was pushed into as he took a peek at the screen, immediately shoving the device back into his pocket and awkwardly chuckling.

“n-nothing! nevermind! forget i said anything!” chan stuttered as he gave a guilty smile to wonwoo and bowed to the student, shuffling away a few rows toward the front back to his seat as quickly as he possibly could.

junhui’s frown deepened as he watched chan retreat, his next area of concern being wonwoo’s dazed look as he slowly turned to look at junhui with confusion.

“were.. we that loud?” was wonwoo’s only question, as junhui could only shake his head and shrug his shoulders.

when chan slid back into his seat, he sunk and sunk in complete terror. he pulled out his phone and looked at the message again, groaning to himself at the string of messages that began to trouble him.

Chapter 13: I remember reading this last year, and rereading it now, I'm still experiencing a roller coaster of feels and it's hard for me to do that after i know what's gonna happen. I really love this fic, but I realised that it's pretty hard to find unless you actually know the name of the fic. So I have a proposal to make:

I'm actually the leader of a Seventeen Fanfiction Amino, and we were thinking of recommending fanfics to our members, and in exchange have the authors help promote our community. Would you be interested in this?

Chapter 15: Okay I JUST finished reading this story and I have to say it was a reeeeeally good read. I especially like how you didn't leave any loose ends and addressed everything, if not in your story, then in the FAQ section. All in all, this kept me on edge and it was SO angsty to read about junhui and amber (but more so junhui lol). Thanks for writing such a good story, I'll definitely be reading more of your awesome fics!!

Chapter 15: I was devastated when jun entered the storyline. well, I find junwoo here and there as the sideship of meanie, and usually i am okay with that. but here, i cant really stand that the ship (meanie) being rocked. i am not meanie shipper though, okay, maybe a shipper in denial. not usually reading it, but i found your fic on svt ficrec and decided to give it a shot.

it turned out that i am just reading piece of art. really... the torture is necessary, dont worry. the reader loves it. it is 3.20 in the morning and i dont think i need sleep yet, must finish reading the fic first #kyaaaa
.
i love their goofy and oblivious relationship. you dropped hints since the first chapter and that is so sweet, promising, yet so frustrating because things are going slow for them, and for reader too. the blind date candidates are sweet, none had been a threat except for jun. i was devastated i told you so, i dont like somebody cracking meanie, but jun here is just so amicable and i dont think that anybody could hate him eventually.
