Mina punches the code at the door of Chanyeol’s house. He had given it to her a couple of weeks earlier, so that she could let herself in if he was running late. There is a soft beep as the door opens with a click. This is the first time she has been there without Chanyeol. She sits down at her usual place, on a soft pillow on the floor so that she is at the perfect height for the coffee table. He phone vibrates softly. It’s a message from Chanyeol.

-Going to be late, leaving in an hour. Wait for me ok? I have something to ask you.

Mina smiles looking around the room, it suddenly felt so large and empty, she never really noticed it until that very moment. When Chanyeol was there it felt just right. Mina draws her knees to her chest, making her body into a little ball, resting her head on her knees, she closes her eyes. “I hope Chanyeol comes soon.

A soft sneeze wake Mina up, she doesn’t remember when she fell asleep, she sits up, noticing that she was no longer on the floor, but on the couch, a blanket carefully draped on her body. At the sound of rustling blankets, Chanyeol, who was sitting on the floor leaning against the couch, turns around, “Sorry, I didn’t mean to wake you up.”

“It’s ok; I didn’t even know I fell asleep.”

Mina slides off the couch and settles down next to Chanyeol, their arms almost touching.

“I tried to get back earlier but the manager wouldn’t stop rambling on.” Chanyeol complains, which is quite rare.

“But you’re here now…” A smile playing across Mina’s lips.

“Yeah!” Chanyeol says happily.

Mina sees a white envelope on the coffee table, the reaches for it… “What’s this?” Mina asks.

“Oh yeah! That’s what I meant to ask, do you want to come to my sister’s wedding with me?” Chanyeol asks.

Mina smiles, “of courses.” Happiness bubbling up, she can’t believe Chanyeol considers he important enough to bring her to such a private event.

“My family has been dying to meet this mysterious friend of mine.” Chanyeol says with a laugh which Mina doesn’t hear.

That simple sentence mad the happiness she felt just moments before to fizz away, like a can of soda left outside for too long. The stab in her heart, the bitterness in , the stinging sensation in her eyes. This feeling was so foreign yet familiar, thinking back to that night.

“I need to go.” She announces suddenly.

“So soon?” Chanyeol says, starting to protest, “Stay a little longer.”

“No, I need to go…” Mina says her voice so soft and fragile, he didn’t protest any further and watched as she left silently.

Once she was out of the house she could finally breathe easier, the feeling disappearing the further away she got from Chanyeol’s house and closer to her own. She took a deep breath, she was ok. She sends Chanyeol a quick apology giving a vague explanation about something about her sister; which Chanyeol simply accepted.

A few weeks later, Mina is sitting in her room, putting on some heels. She gets up and looks herself in the mirror, she looks fine. Her phone vibrates; Chanyeol was on his way here to pick her up for the wedding. She smiles in the mirror, but the smile doesn’t reach her eyes. Chanyeol had asked her to come over to her house to help him get ready for the wedding. Apparently he is planning a surprise for the couple as the Best man, and he required her help. She picks up some make up so that should could do some touch ups at Chanyeol’s house before she goes outside to wait for him. With perfect timing, Mina could see a black car cruising towards their house just as she closed the front door. She took a deep breath before she put on her best smile, which should be easy, but recently she found it increasingly difficult. Chanyeol waves as he stops the car and gets into the car.

“Hello Mina!” Chanyeol says, “You look great.”

“Yah!” Mina replies half heartedly, “Save that for your girlfriend.”

Her words were met with a stony silence that made Mina squirms slightly in her seat as she fiddled with her seat belt. “So… what is this surprise?” Mina asks trying to change the atmosphere. To her relief, Chanyeol perks up and explains in great detail his plans while Mina listens, occasionally mumbling a question or two to show she was listening.

They arrive at Chanyeol’s house and start assembling the present – Chanyeol has printed thousands of pictures of his sister and the groom starting from when they were young. His idea was to cut them out into puzzle pieces and assembling them. Chanyeol would cut, while Mina put the pieces together and glued it on a framed canvas.

“We should have started earlier!” Mina says as she looks at her watch, there wasn’t much time before the wedding was supposed to start.

“How was I supposed to know it would take so long?” Chanyeol whines.

Mina rolls her eyes as she works faster.

The two barely made it to the wedding on time, Chanyeol left to check on the groom, leaving Mina to mingle with the other guests. When Mina didn’t recognize anyone she decided to send a message to Tiffany, who was supposed to be here already, but when she fumbled in her bag, her phone was nowhere to be found. Mina must have left it at Chanyeol’s house, she sighs to herself, and she’ll just have to get it back in the meantime. Thankfully, Mina soon saw Tiffany and Sehun make their way into the venue.

The chattering in the hall soon died down as the Groom and his groomsmen made their way to the front, Mina caught Chanyeol’s eye, who winks in response. Mina rolls her eyes but she couldn’t stop but smile. The bride was dresses beautifully in white; Mina couldn’t help but notice, how similar Chanyeol and his sister looked, thanks to perfect genetics. As the bride and groom said their vows, Mina couldn’t help but think of her sister. This is how a wedding should be, two families coming together to celebrate. Mina might hate the enemy but she couldn’t help but imagine what her wedding would be like. If someone had asked her a few months ago, Mina would had snorted and insisted that she was going to be single forever. But now… Maybe it wouldn’t be too bad if- she caught Chanyeol’s eye once more, smiling her favorite smile. Mina looked away, embarrassed.

Chanyeol came to find her as soon as the wedding was over. The two eat the appetizers before Chanyeol was called to the front for speeches. Tiffany slid into the seat vacated by Chanyeol.

“I didn’t get the chance to ask earlier, what were you thinking about during the service?” Tiffany asks.

“What do you mean?”

“You looked like you were in dreamland.” Tiffany says with a laugh.

“I was thinking that it wouldn’t be too bad to get married if…” Mina says as she looks in Chanyeol’s direction who was speaking animatedly about his sister bulling him when he was younger eliciting laughs from everywhere around the room.

Tiffany pauses, following Mina’s gaze.

“But... it's not-“Mina begins, scared of what Tiffany is about to say.

“Doesn’t it mean you love him?” Tiffany says before Mina could finish speaking.

“I-“Mina starts again, trying to explain.

“Don’t tell me, you should tell him.” Tiffany replies.

The two sat in a silence, “I have to go find Sehun, I’m sure he’s looking for me.” Tiffany says with a small smile as she goes to search for her boyfriend, leaving a stunned Mina sitting alone. What if what Tiffany said was true?
