Pain. A dizzying white light, followed by red marks across his cheeks.

“Do you have any idea what shame you have brought upon the family? How your opprobrious act will doom your entire future?”

“Father, please, listen to me… I love him, and he loves me too…... please, give us a chance...”

The elder man turned away from his naïve son and shut his eyes tightly together. His teary-eyed child did not understand- it was not his choice to forbid them. He could never protect him from society’s intolerant prejudices.

So he had to stop them before they even began.
