epicedium: n. a funeral song; dirge

He waited for the whole morning on the cold steps outside.

Donghae did not come.

Hyukjae could not hear his mother questioning why he was crying as he faced the open car window in the backseat. Tears blurred not only his sight, but his hearing as well. 

Yet as they drove further and further away from the house opposite the low tree branch, Hyukjae could swear he heard a leaf song, so foreign yet so familiar, travelling to him on a current of wind.

An epicedium of his childhood; of the person who filled in his memory outlines with colour. 

a/n: and with that, I announce the finale of the seven day drabble series which I have decided to title 'A Leaf in His Past'.
