splendiferous: adj. splendid; magnificent; fine

The sun broke through dense clouds with effort, casting a splendiferous coat of gold onto anything it could touch. Trees, rivers, roads, cars… even the phones thrown onto the seats, discarded after their failure to receive a signal marked their lack of worth.

But there were things it couldn’t touch, both physically and otherwise. The two men sitting inside the car. They weren’t boys anymore, though they acted like one sometimes.

A tight silence bound their lips together and their eyes to the road. On the outside, they hoped to see a rescuer.

On the inside, only they themselves knew.
