lachrymose: adj. tearful or given to weeping

He couldn’t help but be lachrymose every time his emotions reached an extreme. When he was joyful, he cried. When he was upset, tears came out. His last girlfriend had even broken up with him when he didn’t cry at her confession on their second anniversary, because it revealed that he did not truly mean his “I love you too.”

Yet, as he waved back, his eyes stayed dry. It was not because he had finally grown to be unaffected by the overwhelming emotions inside of him.

It was because he knew that if he cried, the other would too.
