Chapter 06

Insurrection

Byunghun stayed behind Chunji, following his footsteps silently. The rebel had finally released his grip on Byunghun’s wrist, allowing the elite to walk freely. They continued to walk throughout various hallways that all looked the same to Byunghun. Chunji never looked back at Byunghun and also never spoke a word. After walking for a few more minutes, they had stopped at a locked door with a passcode. Byunghun watched as Chunji pressed the code into the lock, the door soon opening.

“I hope you don’t mind riding on a motorcycle.” Chunji glanced back at Byunghun with a grin, causing the elite’s heart to speed up for a moment.

“I’ll be fine.” Byunghun mumbled, looking away as a blush began to spread across his cheeks.

Chunji only chuckled in return and he reached for Byunghun’s wrist, grabbing it once more before dragging him into the spacious room.

Byunghun looked around as they entered the room. He noticed many old cars and motorcycles parked inside and it took him a moment to realize that it wasn’t a room that he was in.

He was in a garage.

The pair continued walking around the different cars and motorcycles, Chunji humming as he looked for a certain motorcycle.

“Ah, Jonghyun always leaves my motorcycle in the wrong place.” Chunji let go of Byunghun’s wrist and searched for his keys in his pocket again. Byunghun stared down at the motorcycle nervously before glancing back up at Chunji.

“First time?” Chunji smirked and grabbed the helmet that was placed on the seat of the motorcycle. Stepping forward, Chunji placed the helmet upon Byunghun’s head and fastened it in place.

“You’ll be fine. Don’t worry, I’m a good driver.” Chunji smiled once more and took his seat on the motorcycle. He started the engine and looked back at Byunghun who had made any move.

“Where… Where do I sit?” Byunghun asked, blushing once more. He had never ridden a motorcycle before.

“You’ll sit behind me. Just wrap your arms around me so that you don’t fall off. You have a helmet anyway.” The rebel reached forward and pulled Byunghun closer to the motorcycle. The elite nodded and sat behind Chunji, his hands shyly grasping onto Chunji’s leather jacket.

“If you only hold my jacket, you’ll fall off.” Chuckling softly, Chunji grabbed Byunghun’s arms and wrapped them around his waist, keeping him steady. Before Byunghun could respond, Chunji had already begun to drive. The door of the garage opened automatically and Byunghun’s eyes closed as he finally saw sunlight for the first time in what seemed like days.

“Where are we going exactly?” Byunghun yelled out, trying to make his voice heard over the engine of the motorcycle.

“Just sit back and enjoy the scenery. We’ll get there soon enough.” Chunji replied, keeping his eyes focused on the road.

Byunghun frowned and rested his forehead against Chunji’s back, keeping his mouth shut for the rest of the ride. There was no point in him trying to befriend Chunji. It wouldn’t make sense to be friends with the rebels.

As an elite, his main goal is to maintain his pride and be strong.

It took about an hour for the pair to reach their destination, but Byunghun was still confused about their location. Chunji parked the motorcycle and turned off the engine. Byunghun climbed off of the seat and stretched his limbs, blinking in surprise when Chunji helped him take the helmet off.

“We’ll leave this here for now. No one is here anyway.” Chunji stated as he placed the helmet on the seat of the motorcycle. Byunghun nodded silently, watching the rebel’s every move.

Chunji nodded his head towards a certain pathway and Byunghun took that as a signal to follow him. Looking around, Byunghun could see that they were about to enter a forest area. He had never been outside of the city all his life, so he was a bit scared and uneasy for what he was about to face.

“It’s just a forest. Don’t get scared or anything.” Chunji chuckled and pointed down at the gun holster attached to his hip.

“Besides, if anything gets too close, I’ll just shoot it. No problem.” A smile appeared on Chunji’s face and Byunghun couldn’t help but cringe. The smile didn’t seem friendly at all.

Their conversation came to a quick stop as Chunji started to walk into the forest with Byunghun trailing behind him like a lost puppy. As they kept walking, Byunghun began to stumble every few moments because of the rocky terrain.

Chunji laughed as he had to wait for Byunghun to catch up with him.

“Sorry about the pathway, princess. I guess it’s the first time you’ve ever had to put effort into walking.”

Byunghun glared as he tripped once more. He hated hearing the rebel make fun of him. However, he couldn’t risk fighting back. Even though Chunji seemed harmless, Byunghun knew that he had to be careful. Chunji could shoot him at any moment.

Finally, the trees around them began to clear up to an open field. Chunji stopped walking and turned back to Byunghun, no emotions visible on his face.

“Make sure to greet my mother properly.”

Byunghun nodded and Chunji took his wrist, pulling him forward. He pressed his lips to the elite’s cheek and whispered quietly.

“And consider yourself honored to meet my mother.”

Byunghun blushed as he was pushed towards the open field after the quick kiss. He stumbled forward but then felt his eyes widen in surprise when he saw what was on the ground in front of him.

It was a grave.

A tombstone.

Byunghun scanned the tombstone, not seeing any name or date listed on it. It was simply a blank tombstone that was surrounded by beautiful flowers. He quickly bowed low towards the grave, paying his respects.

“Hi mom, I’m back a bit earlier than expected.” Chunji also bowed towards the grave, smiling as he sat down near the tombstone.

Byunghun stepped backwards and took a seat behind Chunji, listening to his words carefully.

“So, this kid right here is Lee Byunghun. I’m sure that if you could hear his name, you would remember exactly who he is. It’s too bad you two have to meet like this. I would have loved to see you reaction if you were still here.” Chunji let out a bitter chuckle and Byunghun stared down at the ground, feeling guilty for no reason.

“I am going to set everything right, mom. I promise. I’ll make sure to fix everything that the stupid elites screwed up.” Chunji glanced back at Byunghun, who wasn’t paying attention. Rolling his eyes slightly, Chunji looked up at the darkening sky.

Clouds were rolling in and Chunji could hear the thunder quickly approaching.

“We won’t be able to make it back to the base with the storm coming in. Looks like we’re going to have to find a place to stay for tonight.”

Byunghun also looked up towards the sky and felt a rain drop graze his cheek gently. Chunji stood up and grabbed the elite’s wrist, pulling him up.

“Where could we possibly stay? We’re in the middle of a forest.” Byunghun quietly replied, blinking in surprise when Chunji grinned at him.

“We’ll stay at my house! Come on.” Chunji didn’t let Byungun reply before he started to run, dragging him off towards another pathway.

The rain had started to fall a few minutes after the teenage boys ran off. Byunghun was panting heavily once they finally reached what seemed to be an abandoned mansion in the middle of the forest.

“W-What is this place?” Byunghun tried to catch his breath as he rested against the front door of the mansion. Chunji simply ignored the question as he grabbed a key from underneath the doormat.

The mansion seemed to be more than ten years old, but it appeared to be as sophisticated as newer mansions. Byunghun was impressed that such a large building was able to be built in the middle of a forest. However, there was something about the mansion that bothered Byunghun. He couldn’t help but think that he had visited the same mansion once or twice when he was younger.

“Welcome to my house, I guess.” Chunji said, unlocking the front door carefully. Byunghun followed after Chunji, not feeling quite secure yet.

“You live here?” Byunghun asked, watching Chunji turn on the lights. The lights illuminated the entire house, working perfectly.

“I used to. I only visit this place when I want to see my mom.” Chunji replied, closing the door behind them.

“Is there even running water in here?” Byunghun asked, sounding a bit pompous as he looked around.

“If you want water, go outside. It’s raining.” Chunji said, walking away from the elite.

Byunghun snorted, deciding to inspect the mansion a bit more. The front room of the mansion was very typical. Wood floors let to a carpeted living room which had plastic covered furniture. It appeared to have been a few years since the furniture was even touched.

To his right, Byunghun could see a small bathroom that still had soap in the dispenser on the sink. Not seeing Chunji around, Byunghun walked into the bathroom and closed the door behind him. He tilted his head, feeling a bit curious as he turned the knob on the sink. To his surprise, fresh water began to flow from the faucet.

The house seemed to be in perfect living condition.

“Are you done snooping around, Byunghun?” Chunji’s voice rang from the other side of the door and Byunghun quickly turned off the faucet, opening the bathroom door.

Chunji was standing there, his arms crossed with a slightly annoyed look on his face. Byunghun could only nod as Chunji grabbed his wrist, pulling him out of the bathroom.

“I should probably feed you since you would most likely die if I were to deprive you of just one meal. You should learn to live with just two meals a day.”

Byunghun kept his mouth shut as he let Chunji drag him away. He couldn’t help but be a bit confused as to why he was here and what would happen in the future.

Was he even safe in this mansion?
