The Day I Cried For You
The Day I Met You
Yuna checked her phone repeatedly under her desk. This was the second day that Hyejeong hadn't come to school,
along with Seolhyun. She knew that it had been the tall girl's birthday the day before, and she had assumed that the
couple had skipped school to go on a date, but something didn't feel right.
After what felt like a year, the final bell rung and she jumped out of her seat, grabbing her backpack and almost
running out of the classroom. She quickly unlocked her car and shoved her backpack in, sliding in afterwards. Yuna didn't
go to Hyejeong's house often because the tall girl preferred solitary, but she did know where she lived. She always went
over a few times during the summer, whether the other liked it or not. As she drove, her fingers tapped restlessly against
the wheel. Was Hyejeong sick? Or was Seolhyun sick? The apartment wasn't very far from the school and she quickly
arrived, parking her car hurriedly and getting out. She quickly locked the car door and walked into the apartment, easily
reaching her best friend's door and banging on it.
"Hyejeong! Are you in there? Seolhyun!" she yelled. When she heard nothing she punched in the pass code, one of the
things she was proud of knowing, and pushed open the door, closing it behind her. "Hyejeong?" She quickly took off her
shoes and slowly walked through the apartment room. She hadn't been here in a while, she realized. She reached the door
to Hyejeong's room and opened the door carefully. It was pitch black in there, the blinds to the windows shut tight, and all
the lights turned off. "Hyejeong-ah?" Suddenly, a groan came from the bed and Yuna flicked on the light switch to see a
lump under the covers of the bed. "Yah! Hyejeong! Do you know how freaking worried I was? And you're just sleeping
here like a lazy bum!" Yuna yelled, storming up to the bed and pulling off the covers. She froze as soon as the covers
revealed what it was hiding.
Hyejeong was curled up in a ball, her brown hair a tangled mess, and the worst part of it all was her face. Her eyes
were red and swollen, her cheeks still stained with tears, and her lips were turned down into a frown. "H-Hyejeong! What
happened?" Yuna cried out, snapping out of her anger and immediately kneeling next to the bed. That was when she saw
Hyejeong's bloody, bruised, and swollen hand. "What the hell?! Wake up! What happened?!" Yuna yelled, shaking her best
friend. Hyejeong slowly opened her blood shot eyes and looked at Yuna.
"Yuna," she croaked.
"Yah! What did you do to yourself?!" Yuna yelled, worry sharpening her tone.
"Seolhyun, we have to save her. Seolhyun-ah," Hyejeong whimpered, tears trickling down her face once again.
"What-what do you mean we have to save her? Is she in trouble? Where is she?" Yuna said, panic starting to make its'
way into her voice. But Hyejeong only sobbed and hid her face, her tall frame shaking. "You know what I shouldn't be
asking questions right now. I'll be back," Yuna said, getting up from her kneeling position and gently pulling the covers
back up. She left the room and quickly grabbed everything she needed, which was easy because Hyejeong had a pretty
organized lifestyle. She quickly walked back into the room again and put the tray of things onto the bedside table.
"Hyejeong-ah, get up," she said softly. Hyejeong surprisingly obeyed and shifted, trying to sit up. Yuna helped her,
propping the brunette's pillow up and helping her to sit up. Hyejeong groaned, holding her head. Yuna grabbed the cup of
ice water that she had got and handed it to the girl.
Hyejeong wordlessly sipped it, and then as if realizing how thirsty she had been, quickly drained the whole cup and
handed it back to her caretaker. "Thanks," Hyejeong said, in a much clearer voice than earlier.
"Whatever, give me your hand," Yuna said, dismissing the taller girl's gratitude and reaching for her mangled hand.
Hyejeong allowed her to take her hand as Yuna grabbed the rubbing aalcohol and gauze. "What the heck did you do to
your hand? Actually, no. First, tell me everything from start to finish. Go!" she prompted as Hyejeong didn't say anything.
Hyejeong took a deep breath and told Yuna everything, from meeting Seolhyun and...to losing her. By the time she
had finsihed, she looked to see Yuna crying. "Hey, you al-," she cut off as Yuna suddenly hugged her.
"Did you go through all of that by yourself? Why didn't you call me? No matter how tough you think you are...," she
trailed off. Hyejeong, who normally would've pushed the smaller girl roughly away, allowed her to hug her. And although
she didn't return the hug, she placed her chin on Yuna's shoulder, a lone tear trailing down her already tear stained
cheeks.
"What about Seolhyun? We need to save Seolhyun," Hyejeong said, and Yuna pulled away.
"Wait, so she said that she still loves her father?" Yuna confirmed, her expression becoming serious. Hyejeong nodded
silently. "Well I don't know about you, but I would still call the cops. Even if she does love her father, she even said so
herself. She was in hell before she met you. So, for Seolhyun's sake, report it," Yuna said, looking into Hyejeong's eyes.
"This is really selfish, but what if she hates me for getting her father arrested? What if she never wants to see me
again? What if I'm...all alone again?" Hyejeong trailed off, looking down, half ashamed and half afraid.
"Hyejeong, I highly doubt Seolhyun would hate you for trying to save her. But, if she does, wouldn't you rather have
her hate you and be safe?" Yuna said softly.
Hyejeong closed her eyes and put her hands on the back of her neck. It was a habit of her's whenever she got
stressed. "Call them. I can't take it anymore," Hyejeong growled. Yuna looked up in alarm to see some sort of crazed light
in Hyejeong's eyes. "Call them right now if you don't want to see a murder," Hyejeong said. And suddenly, she shot up
from the bed.
". Hyejeong!" Yuna yelled. She realized what this was. She had only seen this once before when a group of girls at
the mall had tried to pick on her, and unfortunately for them, Hyejeong had appeared at the exact moment one of them
hit her. Yuna remembered seeing the same sort of light in her eyes before she proceeded to beat the living daylights out
of the group of girls. Yuna quickly got up, calling 911 as she followed Hyejeong.
"Hello? This is 911, what is your emergency?"
"Hello? Yes, I'm calling to report child abuse. The location is at the house in front of Kang Apartment."
"Okay, thank you. An officer will be there in 5 minutes."
Yuna quickly ended the call and ran out of the apartment building. She could see the tall figure of Hyejeong sprinting
across the street. "Oh no no no no," Yuna muttered as she ran towards the street herself.
Hyejeong had already reached the door to Seolhyun's house and she banged on it. "Open the up!" Hyejeong
banged on it continuously, but got no answer. The lights were on in the house as she could see it illuminating the window,
but she could hear nothing inside. She felt a wave of nausea come over her, but she held it in. What if she was too late?
What if, what if something had happened to Seolhyun? Hyejeong felt panic rush through her, along with adrenaline, and
without a second thought, she grabbed a large rock that lined the pathway to the house and hurled it at the window.
"Hyejeong!" Yuna yelled, frozen in shock. Thanks to the loud crash of the window breaking and Yuna's scream, the few
people that had been around began to stop and stare. Luckily though, the area that Hyejeong and Soelhyun lived was not
very populated.
Hyejeong jumped through the shattered window, being cut by some pieces, but not even noticing. When she got in,
she frantically looked around. "Seolhyun? Seolhyun-ah!" she yelled through the house. Nothing. Hyejeong ran towards the
back of the house to see two doors. Hands trembling from adrenaline and fear, she opened one of them to have the door
bump into something. Seolhyun. Seolhyun was lying on the ground, unconscious. She was cut, bruised, and bleeding, and
blood was dried on the side of her face. "Oh my god," Hyejeong sobbed, fully opening the door and dropping to her knees.
"Seolhyun, Seolhyun! Wake up!" she yelled, pulling the girl to her. "Seolhyun no, please," she cried. By now the police had
arrived, along with an ambulance, but Hyejeong didn't even notice, her head spinning as she clutched the smaller girl to
her chest.
She heard a loud crash, which was probably the door being broken down, and then rapid footsteps and shouts. "Over
here! I found them they're over-"
Everything started spinning, and then she out.
