Intoxicated

Perfectly Flawed

Drinking is always a 50/50 chance; either you feel nothing or you feel absolutely everything.

18th February 2014

Hwayoung looked at the opened cup noodles in her hand with irk. It had only been 3 days in Seattle but she was already missing Korean food. Holding the cup noodle, she crawled onto her bed carefully while she waited for the noodles to turn soft.

The shoe-box apartment she had rented in Seattle only had a microwave, a kettle, a bed and a tiny bathroom. Although it was small, she was quite satisfied with the cosiness and definitely the price. She had spent the amount she earned on plane tickets and school fees. She had not much left for allowance and she thought her love for ramyeon could allow her to survive here for 6 months.

Scrolling through the chat history with Luhan, Hwayoung couldn’t help but to sigh at the boy who was taking ages to reply. She knew that he wasn’t feeling too good, he had told her what had happened on the journey here and she didn’t know how to feel about the fight he had with his best friend. A female best friend.

She was quite sure they had something. All the texting and the time in the club where they nearly kissed, it definitely meant something. Or rather, it had to be something.

With the cup noodle in her hand, Hwayoung stood up from the bed and walked over to dustbin and threw the just opened ramyeon into the bin. Picking up her cardigan, she grabbed her bag and disappeared right out of the door.

Luhan rolled on his bed, scrolling through Raelynn’s facebook page. She had yet to message him. Whenever they fought, she was always the one who would break the ice first. She knows that his ego is high and he hates to say sorry but she should know better that he doesn’t lie. Or rather, there wasn’t a need to lie to her. Why would he want to hurt her?

However, from the new photo she had just uploaded with Sehun, it was clear that she chose to believe Sehun instead and he just felt like something stabbed through his heart; losing a best friend was as good as dealing with a broken romance.

“Luhan! Your girlfriend’s here!”

Luhan’s roommate shouted and he climbed out of his bed groggily, wondering who it was. Right when he stepped out of his bedroom, he regretted coming out without checking his appearance.

“Hey Luhan.” Hwayoung greeted him chirpily.

“Oh hey Hwayoung!” Luhan cleared his voice awkwardly as he felt adrenaline rush through him right away. From the mirror behind Hwayoung, he could see how his hair was sticking out everywhere and he tried to tame his unkempt hair casually by running his hand through it but failed. “What’s up?”

“You said I could borrow the kitchen. I’m hungry.. so…” Hwayoung raised the bags of groceries in her hand adorably and it made Luhan smile right away.

“Yeah sure! Go ahead! The kitchen is all yours! Hahah.”

“Have you eaten?”

“I.. haven’t!”

“Just nice, I’ve bought your share as well. Let’s have lunch together.”

“Sure.. why not!”

Luhan’s voice was chirpier than usual all thanks to the adrenaline that was surging through his veins. The thought of Hwayoung cooking for him simply excites him but after stepping into the kitchen and he watched Hwayoung stare at the ingredients blankly, he knew it was nothing like he had imagined.

“I.. erm..” Hwayoung muttered, “This is my first time cooking actually.”

Turning to her in shock, Luhan looked at her blankly. “I can’t cook either.”

“Oh no, what should we do?” The couple looked at each other before looking at the ingredients before them. “I thought you could.”

“I thought you could too.” Luhan teased, “When you said you wanted to borrow the kitchen. You sounded like a chef there.”

“Well, I was just hinting you hoping you would offer to cook since its your house!” Hwayoung spat back and they laughed. “Looks like we will have to give our cooking to this kitchen.”

“ cooking?” Raising his brows suggestively, Luhan asked.

“Yes, cooking.” Hwayoung flirted back with a wink. “You. Me. Now.”

Luhan laughed and followed, experiencing their first cooking time together. They whipped up something simple, pouring teriyaki sauce into every single dish but to them, it tasted like heaven. Hwayoung’s presence made him forget about the loss of his best friend temporary, and her sacarstic remarks matched up to his so well that he couldn’t stop coming up with more. As they sat over the dining table, fighting and eating, their phones vibrated at the same time.

“Are you going?” Hwayoung asked Luhan as she looked up from the phone. The group of exchanged students had been invited to a local club as a welcoming party.

“If you don’t feel like going I can stay with you.” Luhan offered. He remembers that she hates going to clubs and he really didn’t mind staying with her. For once, clubbing didn’t excite him anymore.

A fuzzy feeling spread through Hwayoung’s chest when she heard that but she knew that Luhan wanted to make new friends and she wasn’t going to hinder him. As much as she hated it, she was quite sure that Luhan would protect her like how he did previously.

“Let’s go.”

However, when she stepped foot into the club, she regretted right away. The clubs in the States were nothing like Korea’s. It was wild and crazy. There were girls who were topless dancing on the bar counters, guys ing girls on the couches. Luhan and Hwayoung had to look away awkwardly as they searched for their friends.

Thankfully, the group of them was sitting in a circle playing drinking games normally. When they joined in, the atmosphere hyped up and the person sitting beside Hwayoung was just so good at it that she had to down many cups of liqour that they had specially mixed to get people drunk. As much as her liqour tolerance was good, she was beginning to get giddy and hot. And she knew she was drunk when was almost leaning on Luhan with their knees almost touching and the smell of him was intoxicating her.

“I will help her drink this.” Luhan offered to drink when she had lost the game once again.

“Hwayoung is still fine! Don’t try to be a hero Luhan!” One of them teased. “You drank a lot too!”

“Yea, let Hwayoung drink!”

Luhan watched Hwayoung downed another cup of liqour and he instinctively leaned his body closer just in case she needed support.

“Okay?” He asked her softly and Hwayoung nodded her head as she smiled back at him. That simple smile made Luhan blushed and suddenly he began imagining talking about her to all of his friends, smiling at every thought of her.

“You?” Hwayoung’s voice was low as she maintained that eye contact that was making her heart doing cartwheels.

“I’m okay too.” Luhan replied. Although their conversation had ended, their eye contact remained. Both of them could feel the atmosphere between them rising, and it was not helping when their faces were less than an inch apart from one another.

From the corner of his eyes, Luhan could see a few of his classmates snogging away and he couldn’t help but to start thinking about her lips, and the way they would be kissing his. It also got him thinking about how she would look at 4am, how much milk she would pour in her coffee tomorrow morning and how his hand would fit into hers right now.

That instant, Hwayoung had got Luhan thinking about all the places he wants to take her and the things he wants to show her, and the look on her face when she sees it all. She got him thinking about carving his names on her veins and exploring her mind and how it would be to be wrapped up in her, and the way she taste and how her lips would feel against his.

All he could think about is them, them and only them.

“I think we should leave.” Hwayoung looked away from his lips and she stood up only to experience giddiness which Luhan caught hold of her just in time. With his hands over her shoulders, he helped her out of the club and hugged her into the taxi.

“Did you your girlfriend too much? She is almost gone!” The young taxi driver joked the moment he stepped into the taxi and see how Hwayoung sprawled across Luhan’s chest.

Luhan looked down at Hwayoung who had fallen asleep and even though it was dark, he could tell that she is beautiful. He was drunk but he knew tomorrow morning when he is sober, she would still be beautiful.

“So where to dude? Your house or her house?”

Carressing her cheeks gently, Luhan smiled at all the thinking that was whirling in his head. His entire mind was filled with her and he couldn’t think of anything else other than her. Wrapping his arms around her, he instructed.

“My house.”
