Both knew that they were heirs to an empire. One raised in a loving home without pressures and has been able to reap the benefits of a brilliant childhood. One raised in a strict household of rules and rigidity, without parental love. 

11 year old Penelope always thought she was normal. She lived a comfortable life free of worries. Her family made sure to protect her and her innocence and maintain a normal life for her. But the promise made has forced her parents to send her off across the world into the unknown.  Her biggest wish is to please those around her. 

14 year old Nathaniel has never know what it meant to love, other than in respect to material goods. He had everything and was set out to become successor to the world largest empire of corporations. Yet what he wanted was never his to own. His past, present and future was but a plan. A plan out of his control. Cold and distant, Nathaniel vowed that he would never allow another person to have control over him again.

That is, till the summer they met...

What will happen when they meet and are forced to spend an entire summer together? What will become of the promise set a century before they were born? Will true love be sacrificed for the sake of duty?

The full names of each of the characters will be revealed as the story develops. For now, I will be revealing the basics about the personalities of three of the five main characters (Nathaniel, Penelope and Edward)

 is the male main character of the story (more information coming soon on who he is really haha)

 is the main character of the story and starts off in chapter one only being 11 years.

 is Penelope's best friend since they were very little and his father works for Penelope's family as their head of security.

Penelope's two best friends who go to middle and high school with her. 

is your stereotypical extremely attractive prodigy who is cool, cold and seemingly distant on the outside (but is secretly really caring). He doesn't plan to tell Penelope that he loves her since he is a welfare student at the school, and supported by the Wu family (unbeknown to Penelope) and doesn't feel that he is good enough for her if she were to know. He has to work two jobs outside of school but doesn't want anyone from school to know so he makes hints about how he is going to see his supermodel girlfriend after school and makes a lot of innuendos that make it seem like he is a player. 

When something bad happens to a student of the school or when secrets are told, he is usually present and thus, has been able to use them to his advantage and keep people's mouths shut about his family's financial status. Only Suho knows the truth about everything, and he is the only real friend that Kris has at school other than Penelope. 

  is really funny and acts immature. He also does a lot of things that make him seem like he's a girl. He thinks that this is the best way for him to be a bit more than just friends with Penelope, but it has caused people to think that he is gay. However, he is always secretly there for Penelope, whether it is when she needs a shoulder to cry on, someone to watch Mean Girls and A Walk to Remember (for the 60th time) with, or drive to the beach with her at 4 AM so she can see the sunrise , but they both end up falling asleep once they get there. Anything, really, as long as he can spend time one-on-one with her. 

He has repeatedly tried to convince himeself that he would be happy regardless if Penelope wants him to be an older brother to her, her protector, a lover, or just a best guy friend who watches Frozen and Bridget Jones Diary with her on a snow day, but somehow, wanted to be all of them, and nothing less than that. 

 is the governess of Penelope and one of Penelope's main caregivers since she was born.

 are Penelope's brothers and will show up more later on as cameos.
