Jongin.
“Wait, what?” Jongin said, speechless, “Who’s coming?”
Sunyoung was cheerfully cleaning the materials after class when she reiterated, “I said that Byunghun is going to come talk about graphic design.”
Jongin twitched, “You’re going teach little five year olds about graphic design?”
She turned around and smiled at him, “I think it’s nice to introduce it to them. See the digital version of art. And besides, it’s kind of a break for you and me.”
Hn. Jongin rolled his eyes. The purple head probably just wanted to spend time with Sunyoung and was weaseling his way into Sunyoung’s life. And… well, Jongin kind of had a problem with that.
“What is this, a show and tell class now?” Jongin asked.
“It’s just to show them different mediums of art,” Sunyoung said, wiping down the table, “I don’t understand, I thought you would be happy. You know, take a break from class.”
Jongin just grunted as he watched her clean.
“You don’t have to come if you don’t want to,” Sunyoung said, “Since Byunghun is there, you can… you know go do your own thing and stuff.”
Jongin’s eyes bulged. “Are you kicking me out?” He asked incredulously. And replacing me with that purple monster, he thought to himself. Sunyoung laughed, “No, of course not! But since you always seem to want to leave the classroom.”
“You just want me to leave the class so that you can be alone with him, don’t you?” Jongin asked suspiciously, narrowing his eyes. Sunyoung looked at him surprise, “No! What makes you say that?”
“Hmmm, I don’t know. It sounds to me like your trying to get rid of me. Do you like the kid or something??!” Jongin asked, not sounding jealous at all. Sunyoung just rolled her eyes, “I swear, that joke is like getting old now.”
“You’re not denying it!” Jongin yelled accusingly, pointing his finger at her. Sunyoung shook her head and said, “I don’t like him. Now come, let’s go eat some food. Henry oppa said he made crepes for us.”
A smile spread across Jongin’s handsome face at her invitation to eat together. And he trailed behind Sunyoung, who kept talking about random things like she always did. Jongin couldn’t help but frown though. This Byunghun kid was going to invade his private space and enter the sacred room that only he shared with Sunyoung.
--
Sunyoung.
Sunyoung walked out of the classroom, clutching her sketch pad to her chest. She was so freaking tired after pulling an all nighter to finished a character angle frame. Basically, Sunyoung had to make up an animation character and create its profile with every angled shot of it. After much deliberation, Sunyoung made her character Polaris, a boy from the stars who travels at the speed of light. After she created him, she couldn’t help but notice his uncanny resemblance to Jongin. That playboy smirk on his face and the side-shifted hair. His personality profile read that he was rough and cold on the outside but a true softie on the inside. Just like Jongin. But whatever. Her professor liked the character and that’s all that mattered.
“Yo, what you up to?”
Sunyoung turned around and saw Byunghun smiling at her. She smiled back, “Nothing, just got out of class. I’m like dead tired now.”
“Tough day?” Byunghun asked. Sunyoung nodded, “Big assignment was due. But I think it went well, thankfully.”
Byunghun grinned, “Looks like you need a celebration. Let’s go eat some bingsoo!”
Sunyoung brightened up, “I’m down! As long as you promise to pay~”
“Fine, fine,” Byunghun said with a playful glint in his eye. The two friends went over to a nearby café to eat the deliciously cold and sweet treat.
“So, are you ready to come present tomorrow?” Sunyoung asked, eating the bingsoo. Byunghun nodded, “I think so. I’m just gonna show them the tablet and program I work with.”
Sunyoung grinned, “The kids are going to be so impressed.”
He laughed, “I hope so. I’m kind of nervous, what if they don’t like me?”
“They’re little kids!” Sunyoung said, “Don’t worry. They’ll love you. Besides, if anything you’ll have me and Jongin there for support.”
Byunghun’s face kind of fell as he said, “The jerk?”
Sunyoung said thoughtfully, “He’s actually not that bad. In fact, Jongin’s a really good guy. I’m sure you two will get along just fine.”
Byunghun shrugged, “I dunno. He didn’t seem very nice when I met him.”
“Don’t worry, he’ll warm up to you.” Sunyoung said happily.
“Sure,” Byunghun said, “but I get the sense that he doesn’t really like me.”
Sunyoung looked at him confused, “Wait, why?”
“Well,” Byunghun said, “Let’s just call it man’s intuition.”
She just laughed and shook her head, “Alright, Mr. Intuition. Just remember it’s a presentation for kids!”
Byunghun nodded, “Yes ma’am.”
--
Jongin.
Jongin sighed for the umpteenth time while he cleaned the tables in the kitchen.
“What the heck is wrong with you?” Henry asked with raised brows. Jongin just pouted, “Nothing.”
Henry shook his head, “Come on, Jongin. You can tell your hyung anything. What is it?”
“You remember that Byunghun kid that likes Sunyoung?” Jongin asked. Henry nodded thoughtfully, “Yes, the infamous kid with purple hair.”
“Well,” Jongin continued, “He’s coming to teach about graphic design tomorrow. Graphic design. For kids who won’t understand anything! Don’t you think that’s appalling?!”
Henry blinked as Jongin heatedly continued, “I don’t know what Sunyoung was thinking. She probably just wanted him to be around her. Oh my gosh. She freaking likes him!”
Henry just shook his head as he watched Jongin go off in a flurry of tangents and mumblings to himself.
“Do you like Sunyoung?” Henry asked. Jongin stopped and looked at Henry, “No, what the heck, that is so out of the blue. That’s just ridiculous! Hyung, I thought you knew me by now!”
“Why is that ridiculous?” Henry asked, “She’s pretty, smart, really good with the kids, extremely nice and well-mannered, really fun to be around. Not to mention that she has a beautiful smile and…”
“Hyung!” Jongin said with bulging eyes, “Don’t tell me you like her too?!”
Henry grinned victoriously, “Too? So you do like Sunyoung.”
“That’s besides the point, hyung,” Jongin said, “Do you like Sunyoung!??!”
Henry laughed and shook his head, “Nope. She’s like a little sister to me. But I think someone else over here” he wiggled his eyebrows “likes her.”
Jongin shook his head, “No, no. That can never be.”
Henry laughed, “I think you just told me you did.”
Jongin refused to believe it. Right when he was about to protest, his phone rang. Jongin picked up, “Hello.”
“Yo, it’s Taemin.”
“Hey, what’s up.” Jongin said, throwing daggers at Henry.
“Just reminding you that we were gonna hang out tonight. Don’t tell me you forgot.”
“Oh,” Jongin said. Oops. He forgot. “Of course I didn’t forget!”
“Good, you . See ya.”
Jongin groaned as he put his phone away.
“Was that Sunyoung, your true love?” Henry asked with a kissy face. Jongin just threw the rag at his face, “No, hyung.”
And he grabbed his keys and walked out to drive to the nearby bar. Stupid Henry had to go and put that stupid thought in his head. And now, Jongin couldn’t stop but wonder now… if he liked Sunyoung. She definitely isn’t ugly. Maybe a little more on the pretty side. Her smile is nice. Like really nice. It makes him feel warm and fuzzy inside. And her eyes sparkle and glitter. And… Jongin shook his head.
“Nope!” Jongin yelled to himself. He arrived at the bar and walked in to see Taemin, Kibum, and Minho chilling at the VIP lounge.
“Look, you finally arrived!” Taemin said with a grin as he hugged his friend.
“Long time no see.” Jongin said happily and then he greeted the hyungs.
“Hey Jongin!” Minho and Kibum said. Jongin grinned at them and accepted the bottle of beer Taemin handed him.
“It’s been forever, dude.” Kibum said, drinking his glass of wine. Taemin clucked, “Seriously. It’s been almost a month since I’ve last seen you.”
Jongin laughed, “Sorry, guys. It’s just been very eventful and busy at the orphanage. But how are you guys doing? How’s the business running going, Minho hyung?”
Minho rolled his eyes, “Stress. My dad’s putting me in charge of a merger and it’s a bit stressful. But the other dude in charge there is pretty cool. Maybe I’ll bring him next time.”
Taemin stared at Minho and then finally said, “Hyung, are you gay?”
Kibum and Jongin bursted out laughing and Minho threw a piece ice at him.
“You idiot,” Minho said rolling his eyes. Jongin laughed, he totally forgot how much he missed these weirdo friends. He wondered how Sunyoung would react if he brought her here. She would probably crinkle her nose and say this wasn’t her cup of tea and then proceed to go to a boba shop. Jongin lightly chuckled to himself.
“Why are you smiling by yourself like a lunatic?” Kibum asked, this nicely shaped brows arched. Jongin shook his head, “It’s nothing.”
Taemin narrowed his eyes and stared at his friend, “Something is weird. And different about you, Jongin. I just can’t put my finger on it.”
“It’s same old me,” Jongin said, “Come on, guys. Let’s just drink~”
--
Jongin sighed as art time was slowly getting closer. It was the dreaded day when Byunghun was coming. He still didn't understand what was possibly going to be taught. But whatever. Jongin just went over to the classroom and sat on the chair and put his feet on the desk, waiting for Sunyoung and the evil boy to come.
He tried to think of a bunch of different scenarios and ways to marginalize the boy and show him that this was Jongin’s turf. And then at that moment her heard the soft giggles of Sunyoung at the door and then it opened. Sunyoung was laughing at something Byunghun was saying and then she saw Jongin.
“Oh, Jongin!” Sunyoung said, surprised, “You’re already here.”
“Hn.” Jongin replied nonchalantly as his eyes narrowed on the boy behind Sunyoung. The purple head was staring back at him and they were holding an intense staring contest.
“Um,” Sunyoung said, feeling awkward between them, “Jongin, you’ve been Byunghun before right?”
Jongin nodded, “Yeah. Good to see you again.”
He forced a smile and held his hand out to Byunghun.
“Likewise,” Byunghun replied as he shook Jongin’s hand rather tightly. And now they were smiling at each other, holding tightly onto the other’s hand.
“Byunghun!” Sunyoung said, “Come set up the computer here!”
“Okay,” Byunghun replied, letting go of Jongin’s hand. Jongin just rolled his eyes as he watched the two trying to connect the computer to the projector.
“Do you guys need any help?” Jonging asked. Sunyoung smiled and shook her head, “Nope, it’s almost done setting up. Thanks though.”
Jongin just nodded and watched Sunyoung and Byunghun looking at the computer together. With their heads rather close together, and Byunghun was whispering something to her while pointing at something which in turn made her laugh. That made something boil inside Jongin and he needed to get rid of it. He walked off to the kitchen and grabbed some water and downed it.
It’s okay. Jongin’s fine. He just needed to cool down a little because… Byunghun was just SO aggravating. Yes, he’s fine.
“Pigeon teacher,” Jinri said pulling on his pants, “Aren’t you going to class?”
Jongin looked down and grinned, “Yes, Jinri. Shall we go?”
She nodded and held his hand as they walked to class.
“Wait, me too, Hapi teacher!” Soojung yelled as she held Jongin’s other hand. He laughed, “What an honor to walk to class with two princesses.”
The two girls beamed as they skipped along to class. The kids filed in and took their seats. Yes, of course. The kids absolutely loved Jongin, not Byunghun.
Jongin smiled triumphantly as the little kids greeted him and took their seats. He took a seat with little Sehun in their usual spot in the back.
“Sunyoung teacher!” Baekhyun yelled as he raised his hand, “Who’s the purple man!”
Sunyoung laughed, “Baekhyun you didn’t even give me a chance to introduce him. Everyone, this is Byunghun. He’s a graphics design major at my art school and he’s here to talk to you guys animation!”
“Is he your boyfriend, Sunyoung teacher?” Obnoxious Baekhyun asked again. The kids (more like Chanyeol and Jongdae) oohed in response as Jongin scoffed. Sunyoung shook her head, “No, no, Baekhyun. He’s a friend. Thank you for that interruption. There’s no more right? Okay, so Byunghun is going to show you graphic animation through the computer.”
“Whoa, we get to see animation art?” Kyungsoo asked with big eyes. Sunyoung nodded, “Yeah. Everyone be nice to him!”
Jongin just huffed as the kids clapped and Byunghun stepped forward with a smile, “Hi guys, I’m Byunghun!”
“Are you really just Sunyoung teacher’s friend?” Baekhyun asked again loudly. Sunyoung gave him a stern stare and said, “Baekhyun.”
Byunghun just laughed, “Yeah. For now.”
The whole classroom filled with “ooohs” and “ahhhhs” while Sunyoung turned a looked a little uncomfortable and pink at her desk. Jongin was throwing daggers with his eyes towards Byunghun, who just smiled at the front.
“So, how many of you guys like cartoon animations?” Byunghun asked. All the kids raised their hand excitedly.
“Well, all those animations that you love watching actually takes a lot of work. Each step and movement requires many drawings and motions. Should I show you guys?”
“Yeah!” The kids shouted. Byunghun pulled out the tablet and showed how the images he drew on the tablet formed on the screen. All the students stared at the screen and watched in amazement. Jongin started pouting from the backseat as all the students ran up to try using the tablet themselves when Byunghun asked who wanted to draw. Even Sehun who was sitting next to Jongin gave a small apologetic smile before running off to use the tablet. He watched as Byunghun happily interacted with the kids while Sunyoung was laughing and smiling with him. Jongin felt a tiny stab as he watched the scene. He realized… that he was so easily replaceable. Even by this purple chump. Byunghun was ruffling Soojung’s hair as she giggled at him and Sehun was excitedly using the tablet. Purple head even charmed his favorite two kids.
Jongin just sighed. Why did he care anyway? He was going to leave in a month and a half, take over the company and never look back at these people again. He would never see little Sehun and Soojung and all those other kids again. he wouldn't talk to Victoria and Yunho... and even Henry. And he definitely wouldn't be seeing Sunyoung, anyway. Right? Jongin shook his head as he quietly walked out of the classroom. He needed to clear his mind.
Besides, it wasn't like anyone was going to notice anyway.
--
Sunyoung.
Sunyoung looked with concern as she saw Jongin silently leave the room. Was he okay? He was acting a little funny since yesterday. Sunyoung nervously followed Jongin with her eyes through the window until he disappeared past the hallway. Jinri broke Sunyoung out of her thoughts as the younger girl tugged on Sunyoung’s dress.
“SunSun, look at the flower I drew!” Jinri said, beaming while pointing at the flower on the projector. Sunyoung smiled and said, “That looks beautiful!”
Sunyoung looked over at Byunghun who was surrounded by the kids and laughing. He could probably handle it for a bit.
“Byunghun,” Sunyoung called, “I’ll be right back! Okay?”
His face darkened a little bit before he smiled and said, “Okay, don’t worry. I got it under control here.”
“CAN YOU ANIMATE A ROBOT!” Chanyeol exclaimed in Byunghun’s ear. Sunyoung laughed as Byunghun adhered to the younger boy’s wishes. She quickly stepped outside and looked for Jongin. Where the hell did he go? Sunyoung walked out into the hallway and looked outside the window. Jongin was out in the patio, leaning on the railing and looking out into the distance. She opened the window and yelled, “Yah, Kim Jongin. What are you doing?”
Sunyoung watched him look around in confusion until he finally saw her from the window.
“Just getting fresh air,” Jongin said, and he turned back around to lean on the rail. Sunyoung bit her lip as she closed the window and turned back to the classroom. She didn’t know why, but she felt a bit guilty… like the fact that Jongin was acting strange was her fault. But it most definitely wasn't her fault. It couldn't be her fault. Why would it be because of her? Of course it wouldn't be. Sunyoung wasn't that important to Jongin. With a sigh, she just shook it off and entered the classroom. The kids were watching in fascination as the robot that Byunghun created was walking and spinning on the screen. Sunyoung smiled, “Okay, guys. That’s it for class today.”
“Awwww,” the kids starting saying.
“Can he come again soon?” Amber asked, “I want to see the animation again!”
Byunghun laughed, “I mean as long as you guys will have me, I am willing.”
“Yay!” the class cheered.
“Okay, everyone. Say thank you to Byunghun teacher!” Sunyoung said. They all repeated “Thank you Byunghun teacher” and started filling out of class. Sunyoung turned to Byunghun and smiled, “Thanks for coming today. I think the kids loved it!”
He mirrored her smile, “It’s not problem at all. It was pretty fun.”
Byunghun started packing his stuff while Sunyoung made sure everything else was clean.
“Since I did you a favor by coming, you could at least buy me food,” Byunghun said, “I’m hungry.”
Sunyoung nodded, “Of course, I’ll buy you food! But not today. I have to do stuff with Yunho oppa.”
Byunghun pouted, “Do you have to?”
Sunyoung laughed, “Yeah, I’m sorry. I promised to help him buy Victoria’s present. It’s her birthday soon!”
With a sigh Byunghun said, “Okay, I guess.”
Sunyoung giggled, “Hey, don’t worry, I don’t break my promises! I shall buy you food!”
They were about to walk out when Byunghun suddenly turned around in front of the door, making Sunyoung stumble back in confusion.
“Is something wrong?” Sunyoung asked. He placed his hands on her shoulders and leveled down so that they were looking at each other eye to eye.
“You’re really stupid sometimes, do you know that?” He said, with a twinkle in his eye. Sunyoung raised a brow, “I’m not exactly following…”
Byunghun  laughed as he sighed, “I don’t like kids, yet I came here out of my own will and spent two hours with them. I live in the opposite direction as you and I always insist on taking you home. I always ask you to hang out and play. Do you still not know?”
Sunyoung’s mouth opened as she realized what he was saying. Oh crap.
“I… I-” Sunyoung mumbled, not knowing what to say.
“I like you, Sunyoung,” Byunghun said looking at her in the eye, “And I don’t know if you’re just blind or you know and you’re ignoring it. But I’m finally just saying it. I like you.”
Sunyoung blinked. What was she supposed to say? Sorry? I only see you as a friend? She didn’t want to hurt his feelings or anything either.
“I.. Um, Byunghun-ah,” Sunyoung started.
“It’s okay, I wasn’t expecting any answer right away or anything. I just want you to know so you stop treating me just like a friend, but you’ll treat me as a man.”
Sunyoung was speechless. She really was hoping this situation could have been avoided. She opened to talk, but nothing came out. Byunghun kissed Sunyoung on the cheek and smiled at her, “I’ll be going now. Bye bye!”
And with that Byunghun left Sunyoung standing alone in the classroom, completely and utterly speechless. She placed a hand over her heart. Nope. Nothing. NO quick beats or fluttery feelings.
Crap, what was she supposed to do?
--
Jongin.
“I like you, Sunyoung.”
Jongin froze when he heard those words being uttered from the other side of the door. After taking his little walk he finally cooled down enough to come back to the classroom. And right when he was about to open the doorknob, he heard Byunghun’s confession.
Jongin’s blood ran cold. It wasn’t like Jongin didn’t know. In fact, his man’s intuition told him all along that purple head liked Sunyoung. But witnessing his confession made Jongin’s insides lurch. He was about to barge inside when he heard Byunghun keep talking.
Jongin sighed as he let go the door knob and walked away. He finally accepted it. For the past couple weeks Jongin kept trying to push it away, those feelings, those thoughts, those ideas of being with Sunyoung. Of liking that damned girl.
But trying to suppress it does nothing. In fact, it probably made it worse.
He freaking liked Sunyoung.
Jongin groaned as he went into his room and plopped on his bed. He laughed. The suave and playboy Kim Jongin liked a freaking normal, nice girl. Jongin pulled out his phone and called Taemin.
“Hey, let’s drink tonight,” Jongin said when Taemin picked up. Of course the opposite party was more than willing. Jongin threw on some nicer clothes and walked out the door and almost ran into Sunyoung. She looked up at him awkwardly and said, “Uh, hey. Are you feeling better?”
Jongin felt a little irked. Why the hell was everything Sunyoung did so cute and charming in his eyes? Damn. He tried to coolly brush it off, “Yeah, I’m fine.”
He walked away when Sunyoung called out to him in confusion, “Are you mad at me? Did I do something wrong?”
Jongin looked back and saw her look at him with such concern. Her little brows were burrowed and her eyes were glittering with emotion. He just wanted to go and kiss her senseless. But he couldn’t. Not until Jongin figured out what it meant for him to like her.
“No,” Jongin answered, “Why would I be mad at you?”
“I don’t know,” Sunyoung mumbled, “Because you kind of just left in the middle of class.”
Jongin just shrugged, “I was a little dizzy so I went out for some air. Now, if you’ll excuse me, I have to go somewhere.”
Jongin made his way to his car and drove to the bar the friends always met up at.
“Hey, Jongin!” Taemin called out, “It’s such a surprise that you called me for drinks.”
Jongin laughed, “Whatever, dude.” He sat down on the couch and drank some of the beer, “Is anyone else coming?”
Taemin shook his head, “Only Minho hyung and his friend. That company person.”
Jongin nodded, “Whatever. More drinks for me.”
He downed the bottle while Taemin looked at him skeptically, “Is something wrong?”
Jongin smiled and shook his head, “Nope. Everything’s fine. That's the problem.”
“What the hell are you talking about?” Taemin said in confusion. At that moment, Taemin got cut off by the entrance of Minho and his friend.
“Hey, sorry I’m late,” Minho said as he sat on the opposite side, “This is the company friend I was talking about.”
Jongin looked at the friend. He had slicked blond hair and dressed sharply in a suit. He had a friendly looking face and a big smile. Jongin definitely saw him somewhere before… he looked so familiar. And then it hit him.
It was the guy in Sunyoung’s sketches.

"Hi, I'm Lee Jinki. Nice to meet you."
