Taemin's POV

“I told you he-“ Key looked over at me with his jaw to the floor, Minho coughed and Jonghyun had a smug look on his face, Onew and Minji had the same expression,

What the just happened..

“Of course he’d pick his best friend, I’m just a friend” Sulli said softly, I looked over at her and felt sorry,

“I meant, she is, but unm- uhm” I didn’t know what else to say

“Sulli, he is so random, He just said that so I would buy him a meal” Minji said getting up and giving Sulli a smile,

“Totally” Minho said quickly who noticed what she was doing

She laughed, and Onew did along with her.

“But oppa, I have to get going, it’s almost my curfew time” Sulli said looking over at me with a small pout on her face

I smiled and ruffled her hair, why is she so cute?

“It’s only 8?” Key said arching his brow.

“I know, but its a rule” she replied

“I’ll drop you off” I said getting up; this is the least I should do, since I made her feel not-special?

But I don’t understand, I was speaking from the heart...

“We should get going too, there’s school tomorrow, and I have a test” Onew said making a face

“Don’t remind me” Jonghyun added

“But who’s going to drop Minji off” Sulli asked looking at her

We all looked around; we couldn’t tell her she lived here?

“I am” Key said

“Oh, that’s good; I thought I was hogging Taemin away from you guys”

“Nonsense” Minho said smiling and waving us off

“Bye oppas, bye Minji” Sulli said

“Let’s go oppa” she said tugging on my arm,

“I’ll be right behind you” I said and went up to Key

“So what are you going to do” I asked him

“We’ll just drive around the block” he said shrugging

“Thanks hyung, you’re a lifesaver” I said and bid good bye and went to catch up with Sulli who was standing outside.

Minzy’s POV

“For a minute I thought you’d blurt it out” I said to Onew who was putting on his shoes

“Why me” he said with a confused look

“Because you’re clumsy like that” I said rolling my eyes and grinning

“But he didn’t, so hush” Key said who was behind me putting on his jacket

“It’s not even cold dude” I said pointing at his jacket

“Plus you’re wearing a long sleeve shirt” I added

 “It’s the latest it thing sweetheart” he said giving me a mean mug.

“We’ll be going, bye” Jonghyun said once we were at outside in front of the cars

Minho and Onew entered Jonghyun’s car, and I went inside Key’s.

“This is the first time I’ve seen you drive” I said once we were on the street.

“Yeah, I just got it fixed” he said feeling proud

“It looks like an older model, Nixon 56?” I mumbled to myself

He turned to me shocked,

“Yeah it is, how did you know?” He said

“My dad was a big fan of old cars and stuff” I said

He nodded,

“I once had a Chevy ’74” he said

“With the wings?” I asked now getting interested

“Yes sir, it was my baby” he said

“For a fashion freak, who knew” I said

“You barely know me” he said

“I know your shoes were bought in France, made in a factory owned by the prime minster” I said with a smug look

“Look who was paying attention” he said  

I laughed and we talked a bit about weird hobbies we had when we were younger.

Just then Key’s phone rang,

He took it out from his jacket pocket and looked at the caller; his face quickly had a 180’degree turn and picked up

He was quiet, he just listened.

I took a few glances at him, wondering what was going on.

“Now?” he said taking a deep breathe

“I’ll be there in 5” he said and hung up, Just then we took a U-turn that made me hold on to my seatbelt.

“What the hell” I yelled

He ignored me and drove at 70mph and didn’t take his eyes off the road.

I was more then clueless now.

We stopped at a two-story house in a place I didn’t recognize. It had a front porch and a lady was outside with her bathrobe pacing back and forth through the yard.

Once she saw the car she came running, Key took the engine out and told me to stay put, he got out and the lady gave him a hug, and was telling him something. Then Key entered the house and I put my head back into the seat,

What was going on?

 I closed my eyes and waited for him to come out,

I opened my eyes and looked at the car clock,

7:58

He was in there for 10 minutes,

I decided to see what was going on, or at least get up and stretch, my legs were getting numb

I got out the car and noticed the lady wasn’t outside anymore, But I could hear someone yelling from inside the house,

I speeded up my pace and found the front door open, I peered in and saw no one, and I quietly got in and looked around,

‘SMACK’

I jumped and tried to figure out where the noise was coming from,

“DON’T YOU GET TRIED?” I heard Key scream

I followed the sound and saw Key facing this guy in his mid-40’s.

The guy had a bottle in one hand ,

“Honey, listen to him” I saw the lady from outside as she held on to the man’s arm,

“Get off me” he said with his hand up in the air, before he could slap her, Key took his hand.

“Stop it, Stop it, STOP IT” he screamed throwing him across the floor.

“WHY, WHY DAD” He said again yelling now his voice cracking

“Why are you so nosy” the man said getting and stumbling, clearly drunk.

“You sound like your mother now” he added

“At least Mom doesn’t have to go through this anymore” he said looking him in the eye.

“WHY YOU”, the guy stormed to Key and smacked him across the cheek, Key fell from the sudden outburst.

I quickly gasped, and covered my mouth.

“WHY ARE YOU STILL WITH THIS CRAZY GUY” Key yelled at the lady who was now crying and holding Key in her arms.

“I don’t know, I don’t know”

“Because she loves me, and we are married, so don’t into our lives ever again”

“She knew how to be there for me, not like your mother” he said kicked Key in the stomach,

“Mom’s best decision was to leave you, and that’s why I left too, I don’t care if you re-marry, or even go as low as to marry her sister, but you know what” he said getting up

“Unlike you, I’ll be something in life and not die of drinking alcohol” he said and with that slowly left the room,

I quickly left the house and went back into the car, I put my hand to my chest to calm down my heartbeat,

I looked out the window to see Key walking towards the car limping slightly and getting into the car, His face filled with bruises and a busted lip.

“If you were there to watch, you should have at least stayed till the end” he said starting the car

“Sorry” I said softly and looked down.

The entire car ride was silent and I kept taking glances over to see if he was alright.

“Key...”  I said

“What?” he asked

“Is that why you live alone” I said

“Have been for 2 years now” he said

“Does anyone else.. Know?”

“Only the boys do” he said

I didn’t know what else to say next,

“I don’t need you comforting” he said once and took a turn into Taemin’s driveway

“I didn’t say anything”

“But you will, Sorry? I didn’t know? I don’t need any pity” he said sternly

“I won’t say any of those”

“But it does help to let things out” I added

“Why the do you care” he said looking over at me, he had a black eye.

I just shrugged, “I’m not saying tell me your whole life story, but  ...”

“Just because you grew up on the streets, don’t act like you understand”

“Just because your mad, doesn’t give you a right to be rude” I said

“But I have a right, see I grew up where my dad would hit me and my mom every time we said something he didn’t like, I grew up with not having any friends because they all thought I was the weird kid with bruises, I never wore short sleeve shirts because they would show my scars, but do you know what I hated the most? Everyone who knew would just give me looks of pity, I hated that” he said and slammed his hand to the steering wheel. He put his head to the wheel and let out a long sigh,

I patted his back and decided to let him stay like that,

“You want to know something” I said,

“I think friends help you overcome the hardest phases and help heal dark pasts”

“I hated life; I couldn’t stand happy people, why? Because I could never be that happy, but the difference between you and me was, I showed it. I made everyone around me feel my sadness, my anger, and my struggles”

“But you, you kept everything bottled in, you made sure no knew and lead another life in front of people, you learned to accept things”

He got up and looked at me,

“But what does that make me then” he said

“I’m nothing better, I’m being fake and no one truly understands how I feel” he added

“Do you not know how much your friends mean to you, they are always there for you, or are they nothing to you” I said now raising my voice

“We’ve been friends ever since my mom left and they were the only ones who knew about my dad and saw him hit me” he said now basically right in front of me

“Exactly, they mean the world to you? Right?”

“Of course” he said

“But I want someone who can understand me like when I make unreasonable statements and they can shut me up, and someone who tells me how ridiculously I look and not be afraid of how I would react, someone like you” he said the last words slowly, his eyes looking straight at me,

He slowly leaned in, and he closed his eyes and put his lips on mines,

I quickly threw him off and didn’t know what to do,

What just happened?

“Key” I said not believing him,

I quickly got out the car and he came out saying my name

“Wait, let me just”

“No, just let go” I said,

“I like you, okay” he said

I stopped and looked at him; right behind him was Taemin with his hand mid-way through the air, as if he was ready to wave.

“I like your cold front, I like your sassiness”

“Key” I said still looking at Taemin

“I like your sarcasm jokes, I like the way you grin and make me shut up” he said

I felt my heartbeat beating, and didn’t why,

Was it because Key was confessing?

Or

Was it because Taemin was standing behind him, his hand now to his side and his eyes looking straight at me.
