“We met for a reason. Either you’re a blessing or a lesson.”

“how have you been?” he asks

Hearing Kris’ voice after 5 years gave me the chills and feelings resurfaced. I suddenly felt raw and exposed in front of him.

I smiled.

“I’ve been well.” I say and sip on my champagne

“I heard you’re very successful now.” Kris says. I see a hint of humor in his eyes

“not really.” I laugh a little “I heard you passed the bar exam. Congratulations, attorney.”

“thank you.” He sips his wine “you’re studying medicine right? Paediatrics?”

“yes, I only have a year left.”

“that’s great” he smiles “do you want more champagne?”

“no, I’m good. I still have to drive home”

“are you staying at your condo unit?”

“no, I’m staying at a hotel” I lied

“I could accompany you” he offers

“no need, Heechul’s with me.”

The next morning, I was awakened by the sound of my phone ringing. I checked it, unknown number. It was 7 in the morning. I was still half asleep when I answered the phone

“hello?”

“good morning” the voice on the other line says. I immediately froze

“hey. Still there? It’s Kris.” he chuckles.

“yes, I’m still here. How did you get my number?”

“I asked around.”

“why did you call?”

“can I invite you for lunch?” I can hear him hesitating

“I’m busy. I have work” I want to avoid him

“I’ll pick you up at work. 12 noon. bye” he hang up.

“what is up with him?” I ask myself and get ready for work

He did pick me up for lunch. I’m not even going to ask how he knew where I was working

I hid in my office and whispered to my secretary “If a Mr. Kris Wu comes in and looks for me, tell him, I’m in a meeting.”

“yes, ma’am” my secretary smiles

There was a knock on the door and Kris enters. I silently eavesdrop on the conversation

“good morning sir. May I help you?” my secretary asks

“is Dr. Lee here?” Kris asks

“I’m afraid dr. Lee is in a meeting and wouldn’t be back soon”

“would you like me to set up an appointment or would you like to just leave a message? May I know your name sir?” she continues to ask

I knew I could always count on my secretary

“Atty. Kris Wu. Tell her I’m her high school friend”

“I will Mr. Wu.”

“well, then can I wait here?”

Damn it. Why won’t this guy leave?

“of course.”

Damn it.

An hour later my secretary enters my room

“what will I do?”

“tell him, my meeting’s still not over. Tell him to leave”

“but he wouldn’t. he’s really waiting for you”

“if he’s still here for another hour. Knock on my door and tell him to go to the doctor’s lounge.”

“okay ma’am”

After an hour, my secretary knocks on my door

“he’s on his way to the doctor’s lounge” she smiles at me

“okay. Thank you” I say and stand up.

“you can leave early today.” I smile at her

“thank you ma’am”

As I was making my way to the doctor’s lounge, someone taps my shoulder

“you’re avoiding me.” Kris says

“I told you I’m busy”

“come on, let’s have a snack. My treat and won’t take ‘no’ for an answer” he suddenly grabs my arm and leads to the elevator

Kris takes me to a nearby coffee shop and orders for us. I just sat there and stared at him

“I’m really busy” I glared at him

“I just wanted to spend time with you” he smiles shyly at me

“well, I don’t”

“you’re too mean” he pouts

“if you want to say something. Spill it. You’re wasting my time” I sipped my coffee

“let’s start over” he says

I almost dropped my coffee.
