“Things we lost will always come back to us in the end, but not in the way we expected.”

I stood in my old house’s threshold. I missed this place. This was my dream home. I was supposed to make this house a home with Kris. But sadly, I left this place. It still hasn’t changed after all these years. I guess Kris has been maintaining this place.

“I knew you’d be here” a voice behind me says

“are you my stalker now?” I say

“this is your dream house. You built this, so I know you’d come back” Kris says

I was suddenly transported back to that day

Kris and I were having dinner. Kris was looking lost and agitated

“what’s wrong, Kris?” I ask

“I’m sorry” he says

“for what?”

“Fei thinks she’s pregnant”

I dropped my eating utensils “what?” I breathed

“I didn’t mean to…” he whispered

I immediately stood up and ran to the front door.

“let me go!” I yelled at him when he gripped my arm. Kris came home to see me packing my things.

“where are you going?” his gripped on my arm tightened

“that’s none of your business!” I tried yanking his arm off

“you and whatever you do is my business” he said through gritted teeth

“I was never yours” I glared at him and tried to yank my arm off his grip. That made him let go of me

“I have always been yours” he whispered and looked down. I didn’t see his expression. Those words made me stop packing for a few seconds

“you were never mine.” I whispered back and continued packing

“please, don’t go.” I could hear the pain and anguish in his voice. My heart clenched. You are stronger than this. You will never be free if you go weak on him.

“you have a lot of women to accompany you. I’m pretty sure the house is big enough to accommodate all of them. I’ll just get out of your hair so can spend more time with them.” That came out far more sarcastic and cold that I intended it to be but that was good

He suddenly hugged me tight “please. I need you. You’re the only one I want. Please, I’ll do anything just for you to stay with me” Kris cried and pleaded

“anything?”

“yes, anything” he sounded hopeful

“let me go” I said calmly

“except for that. please”

“you said anything” I tried to loosen his grip on my waist

“don’t go…” he cried

I was free of his grip and started walking away. I silently closed the door. And left.

“I still haven’t forgotten why I left. I will never forget that”

“I’m sorry.” He approaches and hugs me

“we both know, it’s too late for that” I walked away
