Slouched back, dirty hair, speeding fingers.

This was my life.

My face was blank with eyes furiously reading the screen that was 5 inches away from me.  My apartment smelled of dirty laundry and old dishes; I was unfazed by the nature of my habits. No one but myself ever touched foot at my place, and I only met friends once every blue moon. I often wondered to myself when I would get out of this mess, before shutting my eyes and drifting off to sleep. Almost always, I would shrug it off and depend on the next day to pull myself together.

I was avoiding the outside world, which I came to hate. Everything reminded me of him, and everyone on the streets was talking about him. He was a hot icon in the music industry, continuing his career like I never existed.  But there was nothing I could do – nor did I want to do anything about it. We were done, and that was the bottom line.

*Ding*

My phone lit up and shined with a new alert:

1. New SMS from Hyejin at 4:45 PM

I paused – mid sentence- and picked up my phone, half-heartedly feeling the urge to meet friends for once.

            Hey Elle! We’re celebrating my birthday at Club LUNA tonight. Come to my place by 10 so that we can get ready & then hop over to Apgujeong to pre-game. Come out this time!!!

Should I go? Should I not go? My mind was running and debating whether or not what I was about to do was the right decision.  

I shut down my laptop and lifted my sore off my chair. I stretched my arms out and loosened my fingers that were ferociously typing away for the past few hours. A reflect of light bounced off the wall, and I naturally looked to my right where my 3-way mirror was standing – mocking me in every angle. I walked up to it and was completely disappointed in how I looked and felt. This wasn’t the Elle I once used to be…

I walked over to my closet door that revealed an endless wardrobe filled with past memories I hardly ever revisited. My old perfume lingered in the depth of my closet and slowly crept up my nostrils, alluring me to go inside. I took in a deep breath and stepped into the dark room, flickered the switch on, and watched the room slowly beam with radiance and fine luxury; the lavish walk-in-closet sparkled and remained the same as I left it, untouched, months ago.

“Here we go again”, I thought to myself as I began to aimlessly pick out an outfit before hitting the showers.
