C: Hello there. It's nice to meet you.

Y: Oh shucks, hi. It’s a pleasure!

C: So what’s your name and nickname?

Y: My name is Yen, and I have too many nicknames. Um, common ones would be: Onion (OnYEN, get it? It’s not dirty, okay.), YenNasty, DaDude, Chwibi, Chibi, Chibbers. y should definitely be one of them – spread the word!

C: So what’s your age?

Y: Uh, I’m not sure if I should reveal this but I’m seventeen.

C: What’s your birthplace and hometown?

Y: Born and raised in the USA! But yeah, I’ve lived in Dallas, Texas for all my life. Um, but my ethnicity is Chinese and Vietnamese.

C: Do you have a wish you want to come true?

Y: For more wishes :1 I’m serious though, there are too many things I want.

C: What’s your favorite group and who’s your bias?

Y: Hm, I’ve got to say EXO on this one. I use to be a hardcore cassie and followed DBSK for six years, but now I mainly stan EXO and occasionally listen to other kpop groups. Although I’ve been into kpop for a long time, I’m more parochial with EXO and ignore most of the kpop world. (I’m more into American music, haha.) Oh, my bias is Yixing and Baekhyun – I would marry Yixing, and marry Baekhyun with Sehun or Jongin or Chanyeol.

C: Then you’d end up marrying way too many guys, but whatever. So do you have any OTPs?

Y: Ugh, don’t even. I ship Baekhyun/Everyone, but my favorite ships from those would be Sehun/Baekhyun and Jongin/Baekhyun – even though I read countless Chanyeol/Baekhyun ships. Not to mention I ship Yixing and myself. LOL Okay, I ship Kray a lot as well. I got to say though, Xiumin/Luhan is adorable and Luhan/Yixing is pretty good as well. Well, yeah. More to add in the future.

C: What’s your favorite song?

Y: Damn it, this question. I have too many to list, but my favorites are American songs (I hope that’s okay). I listen to a lot of band music, pop, and country. I know, that’s like so different from each other. Okay, I’m getting off topic. Anyways, I choose “I’m Still Here” by Goo Goo Dolls. I was going to say “Iris” but someone already said that (ehem, jay), so I wanted to recommend a song not already listed by them. I fell in love with this song when I was a whittle kid, and cried to it (LOL Treasure Planet, the feels man).

C: How did you find AFF?

Y: Uhhh, from Winglin. Some girl (my “boss”) wanted me to make posters for her website and she made a thread on AFF. Then after that, the website shortly closed down. I worked for Lemon Swirls (aka Tokki Berry now, I think?) and a bunch of other websites. I also owned websites (Three actually? Wasted money on domains, tsk tsk) and made posters for a very long time. I highly doubt anyone remembers me, but my old usernames were ‘Sensei’, ‘dadude’ and ‘Chwibi’.

C: What’s your favorite/most recommended fan fiction and layout shop and by who?

Y: Okay, favorite fan fiction would probably be “Feels Like I’ve Fallen in Love” by Airplanewishes. I don’t ship ChenBaek hardcore, but man, the writing and plot is just beautiful. I totally recommend. Also, “Here I Am Leaving You Clues” by gdgdbaby. KaiBaek is like my number one OTP. But yeah, that’s good and there’s also a Chinese chaptered fan fiction translated on Livejournal, but I forgot the title. I read all 100+ chapters though, but they were fairly short I guess (It’s a KaiBaek too). Took me a couple of hours – plus I like anything that EXObubz writes. LOL

Oh, I should probably say which layout shops I like. I recently like Layout Paradise layouts recently by the twins; (this is an opinion, don’t overreact) but I didn’t like their layouts before because there wasn’t much coding or anything. But now I really enjoy their layouts, and often check up on them. I mainly check out the BaekYeol heaven though, because well, pretty posters and fan fiction recommendations.

C: When did you start designing layouts and for how long have you been actively designing?

Y: I’ve been designing layouts for about three years – same goes to designing. I’ve been mainly doing website/blogger layouts most of that time, when AFF layouts weren’t big then. I’m fairly new to AFF layouts, but it’s not that much different. My layouts are different from others – mine usually look more like website/blogger like, and I’ve been trying hard to break away from that (to no avail) so I just stick with it and just build on to it. People seem to like it, so I guess it’s a kind of style I should be happy of.

C: Which group do you like making layouts to mostly?

Y: EXO or Katy Perry. LOL I’m so biased, but if a requestor makes me choose, it’s mostly EXO (because it seems everyone is an exotic nowadays).

C: How do you feel of joining Nefelibata Themes?

Y: Pfft, I feel like I’m a slave. What have I gotten myself into? I’m just kidding! (Technically, I’m not paid for my work so uh, jay, monies pls) I don’t know how I feel. Maybe excited and anxious? NT was the only layout shop I paid closely attention to, so now it feels weird to be a part of the team. I actually disliked Jay at first (he doesn’t know this, at least I hope not) because I’m paranoid and I get angry when he leaves comments. HAHA But it’s all gucci now, no more h8 bro. hug me brotha >( - 3 - )> But seriously, it’s cool. I can relax at NT because of many reasons, mainly because I get the cute/happy requests, which I’m most comfortable with. Any other kind of request, I indulge with shades of grey and stuffs.

C: Any tips to overcome designer’s block?

Y: Ha! I’m terrible at this. I just look through art college pamphlets, magazines, (good) yearbook pages, and tumblr. Ways not to overcome designer’s block: Watch a drama (Good Doctor and Master’s Sun is where it’s at! If you haven’t seen ‘I Hear Your Voice’ you are cray. So effin’ good, been following since day uno), EXO (I don’t need to say anymore), and eating (I don’t eat when I’m hungry, I eat when I’m bored. LOL) – I do all of these by the way, so heed my warnings or you shall not overcome the block.

C: Do you have any advice for other layout designers here in AFF?

Y: Follow my footsteps, you shall become as great as I. Nah! Insert lame cliché: Just be yourself. I don’t know! Just don’t copy people, create your own ideas, update often, exercise, go make friends.
