Sungmin’s POV

The smooth melody wrapped itself around my brain, resonating in my head. It’s been the same song that’s been stuck in my head. This song was special, I could tell. I just could not get it perfect, no matter how much I tried. I always felt like there was a note that was wrong, and it messed the entire song up. My fingers moved over the piano keys gracefully, trying to hit all the right notes. The song I played didn’t match up to the perfection in my head.

I sighed, frustrated that I couldn’t get this right. I wanted it to be perfect so I could play it for my Kyuhyun. I know that Kyuhyun loved it when I played the piano and sang for him. It was our five year anniversary today, and I wanted to give this as a gift to him. Kyuhyun is my world; I don’t think I could exist without him. I wanted to give him the best gift in the world, so that I could show him my love. He’s done so many things for me in the past; I wanted to do this for him. Kyuhyun might be sarcastic to others, but he’s so caring to me.

Ever since we were little kids, Kyuhyun has been looking out for me. Even though he’s younger than me, he appears to be older, and acts like it too. I remember the first time we ever met, in elementary school.

“Listen here, kid. I don’t know who you think you are, but this is my spot.” The large kid yelled at me. It was my first day in a new school and I am already being bullied. Isn’t it enough that I get hit by my dad every day? The kid stared at me with anger and disgust in his eyes, and I got scared. Is he going to hit me? I prayed that he didn’t; I still had bruises from yesterday.

“Mianhae…I didn’t know this was your spot.” My voice was small, as I started to get up. The large kid waited till I was standing and then pushed me down, away from ‘his spot’. I landed hard on my stomach, and I could feel the rocks underneath my thin shirt, poking me. I had a large black and blue spot there before, and the fall caused me excruciating pain. I felt the large foot connecting with my sides, where there was another scar. The bully spat at me, and it landed right in front of my face.

“Maybe that’ll teach you to never sit in my spot” was the last thing I heard before fading out of consciousness.

The beeping sound got louder and louder as I saw a bright white light. My head felt like it was going to explode. As I gained consciousness, I realized that I was in the hospital. The realization made me jump up, and I felt a hand gently push me back down. The person’s touch sent tingles throughout my body. I looked up to see an angel. He was so beautiful. I blushed at the thought, quickly looking around the room. I saw that there were eight other people, all extremely handsome for ten year olds.

“Just lay down. I can tell you’re probably freaked that there are nine people you don’t know with you. My name is Cho Kyuhyun. And you are?” The angel spoke. Even his voice was mesmerizing. One by one, the rest introduced themselves.

“I’m Park Jungsu, but please, call me Leeteuk.” A boy with light brown hair said. He truly had an angelic face, and a warm smile. I saw a small dimple on his cheek, and I couldn’t help but smile. I looked back at Kyuhyun, and saw that he started to frown. My heart started to hurt. He needs to smile. I quickly grabbed his hand and squeezed it, hoping to see him smile. It worked. I smiled up at him, and looked back at the other people.

“Yo, I’m Kim Heechul. And this is MY Hankyung.” A boy with long black hair said. His smile was mischievous, but his eyes sparkled with happiness. Heechul pointed to the boy next to him and I could automatically tell he wasn’t Korean. Hankyung had a huge smile and seemed like a person everyone was comfortable around. “My Hannie is from China.” Heechul said with pride in his voice, and held his hand.

Three energetic boys came up to the side of the cot. They all started talking at once, and it made me laugh at them. A boy with chestnut brown hair told them that he would talk first cause he’s the oldest. How cute!

“Hi hi. I’m Lee Donghae. But you can call me Fishy. That’s what everyone else calls me. I love Nemo!” I couldn’t help but to giggle, he was so aegyo! Next, a small boy with jet black started talking. A large smile took over his face, as he started to jump up in down.

“HI! I’m Kim Ryeowook! We’re gonna be the bestest friends ever!” he started to giggle as the little boy with chocolate brown hair started to talk.

“Hello! I’m Henry Lau. I’m from China.” I could tell from his last name. He had puffy cheeks, and it was so adorable! I just wanted to pinch his cheeks. “I’m also Hankyung’s cousin. Meaning I have to spend a lot of time with the evilness that is Kim Heechul.” Henry started to pout, puffing his cheeks out even more.

“YAH! I’m not evil! Take that back, punk!” Heechul yelled from across the room. Hankyung placed his free hand on Heechul’s shoulder and whispered something in his ear. Heechul visibly relaxed and smiled at Hankyung.

A friendly looking boy walked up to the cot, and started to introduce himself.

“Hiya! I’m Shin Donghee, but everyone calls me Shindong. You can be a Shinfriend!” I was confused, before Kyuhyun explained that he only calls his best friends Shinfriends. My heart warmed, as I looked around the room. I might’ve just met these people, but they’re treating me like I’m one of them. I looked up at Kyuhyun once more, getting trapped in his chocolate eyes. I saw different emotions there, an emotion that I haven’t seen since my mother died. Love. A loud cough brought me out of my trance, as I looked at the doorway.

“You must be Lee Sungmin. I’m Choi Siwon. Nice to meet you.” A handsome boy said from the doorway. He sat down in the small room, on Leeteuk’s lap. I could tell these kids like skin ship a lot. I would fit in just fine with them. Then, Donghae asked a question that brought me a lot of pain.

“Sungie, what happened to your body? When the nurse was checking you over, we all saw black and blue spots all over.” Donghae must’ve seen the pain in my eyes. “Mianhae, hyung. I just wanted to know if anyone hurt you so that I could go beat them up.” Donghae’s eyes were so full of innocence, it was impossible to get angry at him. I noticed that the rest of the kids were nodding along with his statement. I felt the tears coming to my eyes. These kids care about me so much, and we just met. I felt like I could trust them with my life.

“My dad abuses me and hits me every night.” And with that, I told them everything about my life. They all listened patiently, as I told them about the death of my mother and my father’s abuse and led up to being bullied by the large kid. All the while, tears were quickly falling out of my eyes. Kyuhyun held me the entire time and I felt comfortable in his arms.

It wasn’t long until we were all sharing our stories, all of us comforting each other. We all needed this, as we were getting closer to each other.

All of a sudden, Kyuhyun stood up. He walked out of the door, only leaving a “Be back soon” over his shoulder. I could feel my heart hurt more and more with every step he took away from me.

I went back to school the next day, hoping to quickly find my new best friends and avoid the large kid. As I walked in the front gates, I saw Kyuhyun all by himself. I smiled and walked over to him, hoping to surprise him, as I was behind him. I wrapped my arms around his waist. Why is he so damn tall?

“Guess who.” I whispered in his ear, as I saw his cheeks expand. I knew he was smiling, and that made me giggle like a little schoolgirl. Before I knew what was going on, Kyuhyun turned around and kissed my cheek. I ducked my head to hide my blush, going a deep shade of red. His deep chuckle made me blush even harder.

“Good morning, Minnie.” Kyu said. I was so wrapped up in our little bubble. I then noticed that the large bully from yesterday was walking toward us. I hid my face in Kyuhyun’s shoulder, but I knew that he felt me tense up. “Minne? What’s wrong?” I could feel the strain in his neck, and I knew that he turned around to see what had made me so scared. Kyuhyun let me go, but moved his hand so that it was holding mine. He dragged me up to the bully. What was he doing?

“I believe you owe Sungmin an apology.” Kyuhyun coldly said. It was a foreign tone to me because he’s usually so warm and loving. I guess that’s just around me and the other guys. I didn’t look up, too scared of the large boy. I was really surprised when he actually did apologize.

“I’m sorry for bullying you, Sungmin. I promise to never bother you again.” I looked up to see if he was sincere, only now noticing that there was a black bruise around his eye. Did Kyuhyun do that? Is that why he left last night? He kept on staring at Kyuhyun with fear in his eyes. I guess that answers my question. Soon, the bully left, and Kyuhyun started walking. I recognized this as the path to my class. Didn’t Kyuhyun have to go to class too though?

“Kyu, what are you doing? You’re going to be late to class! I can go by myself.” I rapidly said. Kyuhyun laughed, but kept on leading me to class.

“If you didn’t notice, my adorable Minnie, we’re in the same class. In fact, we’re all in the same class.” I felt stupid for not noticing that. Suddenly, Kyu stopped walking, and placed a small kiss on my cheeks.

“HYUNG!” Henry’s adorable voice screamed out. I smiled up at him, looking at him to see what he wants.

“Yes, my dear, adorable, little Mochi?”

“That piece you were just playing, it was perfect. Is it for Kyuhyun?” I was playing? I was too deep in my memories to have noticed. I nodded my head yes to his question, causing him to jump up and down. It reminded me of when I first met him. “That inspires me on what I can do to win Mimi over!” Ah, yes. Henry has the most adorable little crush on Zhou Mi. “Kamsahae, Sungmin-hyung!” and he skipped away.

Well that was just peculiar. I softly laughed to myself, starting to play the piano again. Our group was anything but normal. I started to think about all the amazing times we’ve had together, and now hearing the difference in the piece that I was playing. This one sounded livelier, happy…perfect. I got so into the music, words started coming to my mind.

“I know all those reasons that clearly say you’re here, it’s the only one. I’m always thankful; I could do better as you do. Call out my heart, free my soul…” Kyuhyun was on my mind. I could feel his presence near me. Whenever he was near, I always felt it. When we were apart, I couldn’t wait till he was back in my arms. I stopped playing, wanting to be as close to him as possible.

“Saranghaeyo, Kyuhyunnie. Happy anniversary, sweetie.” I whispered before kissing him. I put all my love into that kiss. It has been five years already. The most wonderful five years of my life. I swear, every amazing memory that I have has been with Kyuhyun and the other guys. We broke apart, and Kyuhyun started to tug my hand. Aish! This boy was such a little kid at times.

“Kyu! Where are we going?” he smirked his devilish smirk at me.

“You’ll see.” Was his vague answer. Kyuhyun tugged me around the entire school, eventually leading me outside of the building. When we reached the outside world, he covered up my eyes. What was going on? Kyuhyun led me a couple of more steps before stopping completely.

“Happy anniversary, Minnie.” He said before uncovering my eyes. What I saw before me stopped my heart. It was beautiful. The heart was a collage of pictures of us in different moments. The love was evident between us. In the middle, it said “Saranghaeyo, Minnie.” I could feel the tears of happiness streaming down my cheeks.

“I love you, Cho Kyuhyun. Now and forever.”

“I love you too, Lee Sungmin. You’re my world.” I knew that in Kyuhyun’s arms is where I was meant to be.
