Chapter 7

Spawn of the Devil

[a/n: This part is pretty sacrilegious and somewhat blasphemous but I’m telling you guys, it’s art for arts sake. I’m not implying anything here. I hope you don’t take this against me and you know how to separate reality from fiction. God Bless and always pray :**]

The following day, Sunny came to school for one purpose: Bible classes. Her mother urged her to take them and upon the recommendation of the principal as well as most of her teachers, she had no choice but to attend them though she hated every single minute in the chapel. She had to bear with it because the one she loved was there: Sungmin.

Sungmin started acting differently towards Sunny, though. Ever since he walked her to her house and they got caught by her mother, he began avoiding her and making no effort to talk to her and it hurt Sunny so much as all she wanted was some attention from her only friend in school.

In the chapel, she was listening inattentively to Father Ahn’s sermon along with other students who opted to take the class. Unlike the other students who participated actively in the mass, sang to the songs and did the activities Father Ahn asked them to, Sunny was just sitting on the bench, staring angrily at her teacher. She knew that he had something to do with why Sungmin had been acting strangely. Maybe he told him to stay away from her. Sunny had this thought in mind and couldn’t forgive Father Ahn for it.

“May the Lord be with you!” Father Ahn proclaimed.

“And also with you.” responded the other students except for Sunny. Father Ahn was about to speak when Sunny stood up and placed her hand on the pew. The church shook lightly but everyone felt the impact. Sunny walked towards Father Ahn with heavy footsteps like that of a beast. She looked Father Ahn dead in the eyes, changing her eye color from red to black and back to red. Father Ahn tried not to get distracted though he was shivering in fear.

“Don’t you ever get tired of saying the same things over and over again, you priest?” Sunny asked with a deep voice. The rest of the Bible class froze and stared at her with terrified eyes. “Aren’t you sick of praying the same goddamn prayers that never get answered over and over again? Aren’t you?”

“You are a disgrace to the Lord! Sit down young child!”

“I will not.” Sunny stated firmly. “You won’t and can’t tell me what to do, do you know why? Because you’re a fake! You’re a phony! False prophet!” Sunny faced the audience who was scared out of their wits. “You are listening to a scam son of a here! If what you say, dear priest, is real, perform a miracle before me!”

“Sit down!” Father Ahn left the altar and tried to control Sunny but Sunny flashed her palm and threw him to the table, crashing and destroying everything that was on it. The audience screamed and tried to run but Sunny locked the doors and windows, trapping everyone in the chapel. The candles’ flames were blown out and the lights went out. They were destroyed by the immensity of Sunny’s demonic power. Father Ahn, who was old and weak, tried to get up but an evil force kept him down. An evil force controlled by Sunny. Sunny’s hands were working their magic on Father Ahn without even touching him. Father Ahnc ould feel his soul being taken out of him. While this was happening, one brave soul among the students tried to attack Sunny and make her stop. That brave soul was Taemin.

“YOU STOP WHAT YOU’RE DOING RIGHT NOW!” he screamed as he jumped on her back and tackled her on the floor. The two wrestled but Taemin’s courage and small frame were no match for Sunny’s demonic strength. Taemin was thrown to the air and right in the middle of the ceiling was the tip of the chandelier. Because of the height of the toss, Taemin was pierced by the tip and stabbed to death by it, died on the chandelier. The young boy’s body was pierced right in the middle, blood dripped from the ceiling down to Sunny’s cheek where it ran like a tear. When it reached Sunny’s lip, she it like chocolate. The other worshippers screamed out loud for help. Father Ahn grabbed Sunny’s shoulders and felt his hand burn. He released her and looked at his hands. It was as if his hands were doused with acid and left to burn. The were flaky and swollen, not to mention painful. His skin was slowly starting to come off, making every touch excruciating for him. Sunny smirked and grabbed his wrist, pulling him close to her. Father Ahn felt the burning sensation his body that slowly started to heat up to the point that it felt like hell on his stomach. He pushed Sunny and the young devil fell to the floor. Kang-in, one of the troublemakers who were sent to Bible studies, was big and strong and had it in him to lift Sunny up but the scorching flames on her body burnt him. Kang-in couldn’t break free from Sunny and had to endure painful burns on his body. Soon, they hurt as bad as 3rd degree burns. When Sunny felt that the pain she had inflicted was enough, she threw him to the ground with her superhuman strength and Kang in his back on the pew hard. So hard, his spine broke. Kang-in’s eyes shot open, an indication of extreme pain. Sunny looked at him and stabbed his heart using her eyes, moving down to his midsection, ripping him apart. Father Ahn nearly cried at the gruesome sight of Kang-in’s death. Sunny stood up, crazed and lusting for murder. The other students began to panic as she was about to select who would come next.

“Sunny! Stop this madness right now!” with skinned hands, Father Ahn mustered all the strength in him to stand up despite of the pain and attack Sunny to defend his students. Sunny spun around and grabbed the good priest by the neck.

“Wait for your turn, you phony!” Sunny growled with a deep voice. “Hell doesn’t have that many spaces for douchebags, you know! It’s crowded down there and if you want to get in, you’re gonna have to wait!” Sunny hung the good priest on the altar decoration by his collar, leaving him choking like he had a noose around his neck. Sunny went to work with the rest of the class.

“SUNNY! PLEASE! PLEASE SUNNY STOP!” Sunny walked towards them, cowering in the corners and crying their hearts out, begging her for forgiveness and mercy. Those were two things Sunny didn’t have.

“Mercy? You’re begging me for mercy?” Sunny let out a devilish cackle with a voice that came from the depths of inferno. “When it was me begging for mercy. When it was me asking you to stop hurting me, you never did. You just went on and on with the bullying and treated me like I was a plaything. Like I was a piece of dog!” Sunny stood before them with her legs apart like an army general. “Now its your turn to come begging to me.” Sunny looked at them with her evil red eyes and they all started to feel burns on their skin. The feeling was hot at first but it got hotter and hotter until their skins boiled and bursted, like they were being exposed to a thousand high voltage light bulbs. Soon, blood flowed from the bodies and they were all ripped, skinned off their skins alive. Sunny looked at the poor unfortunate souls. She laughed at the gross sight of their bodies without the flesh and just the muscles and ligaments. She then touched one body and set all of them on fire. Sunny laughed an evil laugh and the flames got bigger with each cackle. Sunny broke all the windows with each step closer to the altar. Pretty soon, nearly half of the chapel was on fire. Father Ahn struggled to get down from the decoration but Sunny was just a few inches away from him. He finally got down and fell to floor. He tried to hide but what seemed like a sign from God appeared before him.

Holy Water. That was it!

Sunny was already on the stage, looking for the priest when Father Ahn showed up with the bottle of Holy Water in his hands.

“COME AND GET IT YOU LITTLE DEVIL!” Father Ahn removed the cap top and doused-not sprinkled-doused the possessed girl with Holy Water, emptying the bottle. Sunny screamed and shrieked and fell to the floor.

“ARGH!!! ARGH!!! ARGH!!!!” she screamed over and over. She felt like she was burnign thought she wasn’t. Sunny twitched and twitched and after a few agonizing minutes of twitching, she calmed down and passed out in the chapel.

Later on, she woke up in her own house, in her room and in her bed. She sat up and looked around her. Sunny was back to her normal self. She checked her body and saw some red spots on her arms and legs, suggesting that she had undergone some physical activity. Sunny felt cold and pulled the blanket over her body, covering her entirely. Sunny was just about to go to sleep when she heard footsteps coming up the stairs. Her heart skipped and she shut her eyes tightly. Sunny pretended to be asleep by shutting her eyes tightly with the blanket covering her up.

“Hello? Are you okay? I brought you some biscuits.” said a gentle voice from her doorstep. Sunny recognized the voice and emerged from the sheets. She saw Sungmin still in his altar boy uniform holding a plate of Marie biscuits and some milk for Sunny. Sunny sat up and smiled at him. He sat at the edge of her bed and watched as Sunny ate the biscuits and drank the milk quickly like she hadn’t had any food in days.

“What happened at the chapel?” Sungmin asked. “Uncle’s been telling me all sorts of weird things like you skinned people alive and you set the chapel on fire?” Sungmin laughed.

“I think he’s just making things up.” Sunny smiled and took a bite of her biscuit. “You know how old people are.” Sungmin nodded and smiled a reassuring smile.

“But what’s up with the fire thing he was talking about?” Sungmin asked puzzled.

“A fire broke out. Some guys were playing with candles. Good thing it didn’t kill Father Ahn.” Sunny said. Sungmin knew it was false. At the back of his mind he knew that but it was impossible to doubt Sunny. He loved her too much and he was about to confess.

“Hey.” Sungmin started. “I have to tell you something. I hope you understand this and I hope this doesn’t change anything…” Sunny watched him with anticipating eyes. She knew what was coming but her feelings weren’t prepared for what was coming her way.

“What is it?” Sungmin prepared himself for the big reveal. He took a deep breath and a sip of water from his glass. After rerlaxing for a couple more minutes, Sungmin finally gained the courage to open his mouth and tell Sunny what he had to say.

“I kind of like you, Sunny. I mean, I like you as a friend but I also like you more than just a friend. What I’m feeling for you is actually deeper than friendship.” Sungmin smiled shyly at her. Sunny looked at him and smiled to herself. Never had a boy confessed his feelings for her neither had a boy even had feelings for her, so she thought. Sunny just looked a thim with her cute doe eyes and her childish pout, traits that Sungmin found most attractive about her. Sungmin just stared at her and smiled. Sunny smiled too.
“Well I’m not exactly the bravest person around.” Sunny began with a cheerful yet calm tone. “But I kind of feel the same way for you. I do like you more than just a friend. Didn’t you ever wonder why I followed you and stayed in the chapel, waiting for you to finish your Bible meeting whatever?”

“Is that why?”

“It definitely is.” Sunny affirmed. She took a deep breath and sighed. She couldn’t believe that Sungmin, the man of her dreams, felt the same way. “Oh and good thing you came at this time. My mom usually leaves before afternoon and comes back at around 9. You can stay for a while but if you hear a car coming outside, you better leave quick.”

“Why does your mother leave?”

“She’s been trying to find a job to keep herself busy as well as to earn some money after my dad’s death.” Sunny smiled slyly because she killed her own father. “But you can stay for a while. I could use some company.” Sungmin smiled at her willingness to let him stay, making him feel wanted and cared for. Although Sungmin’s main focus at this point was God and his priestly vocation, he couldn’t help but feel attracted to Sunny which he deemed normal.

“Alright.” Sungmin affirmed. “I can stay with you.” He knew he couldn’t stay long and had more religious business to attend to but Sunny was really drawing him to her. Sungmin was really tempted to hold Sunny in his arms, to kiss her. Sungmin had the urge to do these things but held on tight to his values. Part of being a strong willed priest is fighting temptaion and Sungmin just had to do that. When Sunny was only a few inches away from Sungmin’s face, Sungmin pulled away from her but her strong grasp which was fueled by lust and desire only pulled him closer to her, eventually leading to the two kissing. Sungmin’s nerves started beating as he was nervous and unsure of what he was doing but Sunny pushed deeper and Sungmin found himself lost in the moment that he didn’t want to end. He had feelings for Sunny and she had feelings too. He never had a girlfriend, she never even got noticed by guys. For these two youngsters, it was true love.

Until they heard the door open.

“JUST WHAT DO THE TWO OF YOU THINK YOU’RE DOING?!?” came a loud yell. Sunny and Sungmin pulled apart and with great horror saw Sun Joong standing at the doorway with an outraged expression on her face. Her eyes were wide open and her teeth were gritted. Sungmin froze on the spot and never took his eyes off the angry mother. Sun Joong shamelessly took her daughter by the wrist and dragged her out of bed right infront of Sungmin. Sungmin couldn’t help but feel bad and embarrassed for her at the same time. He couldn’t do anything to help and was even more glued to Sunny’s bed when he saw Sun Joong pulling at her daughter’s hair and beating her down to the floor with a bag on the back. Sungmin just froze and watched in horror with tears starting to form in his eyes. Sun Joong finally stopped hurting her daughter and turned her attention to the young man in her daughter’s bed.

“Hey! Aren’t you that boy who walked Sunny here?” Sungmin gulped and nodded.

“Y-Yes…” Sun Joong grabbed Sungmin’s collar and choked him.

“YOU STAY AWAY FROM MY DAUGHTER, YOU PRICK! IF YOU EVER COME NEAR HERE AGAIN OR IF EVER I SEE YOUR FACE HERE IN MY PROPERTY AGAIN I SWEAR TO GOD I WILL GET YOU AND CUT YOUR WITH A KNIFE, DO YOU UNDERSTAND?!?!” Sun Joong screamed.

“But we were just-” Sungmin tried to save himself and Sunny but lying was useless.

“I saw what the two of you were doing, young man. You cannot lie your way out of this!” she said. With her hands still on Sungmin’s collar, she violently dropped him on the floor. Sunny got up and tried to recover from the violent and humiliating beating that she received from her mother in order to stop her from hurting Sungmin.

“Mom! Mom! Please stop! He doesn’t deserve this! It was my fault!” Sunny begged while hugging her mother’s leg. Sun Joong kicked her to the floor and continued to threaten Sungmin.

“GET OUT OF HERE!” Sungmin got up and ran as fast as he could without even saying goodbye. Sunny’s heart broke at this sight and got up to run after him, just to embrace him one last time. Sun Joong tried to stop her daughter and caught her but Sunny fought this grasp, broke free and ran to Sungmin to embrace him. Sungmin was already at the main doorstep and pushed her away.

“I’m sorry. I can’t.” he ran away as fast as he could, never to come back and never to speak of this incident again. Sunny was left in the middle of the room crying, calling for Sungmin. The young priest in training continued to run away from Sunny’s house. Sun Joong caught her daughter longingly staring at the boy and grabbed her by the hair, pulling her backwards and making her fall on her back, slightly landing on her head. Sun Joong took Sunny by the wrist and dragged her all the way to the basement.

“DIDN’T I TELL YOU NOT TO GO NEAR BOYS?! ESPECIALLY THAT BOY!!!!” Sun Joong screamed. Sunny knew better than to talk back to her angry mother but she summoned all her courage and said,

“BUT HE’S NOT JUST ANY OTHER BOY!” Sunny stood up and bellowed back. Sun Joong was taken aback by her daughter’s sudden feistiness, a side of hers that she had never shown before. “He’s someone I love and I know we will get married.” Obviously, Sunny was never educated about love and relationships and boys, thus leading her to think this way. Sun Joong slapped her daughter across the face, making her fall hard on the floor. Sun Joong then continued to beat her daughter up until Sunny was knocked out. When Sunny was surely sleeping, Sun Joong grabbed her daughter by the hair, opened the basement door and pushed her down the flight of stairs, leading her to roll around, waking her in the process. Sunny roleld and rolled until she hit her back hard on the cold cement floor. Sun Joong saw her daughter and shut her up in the basement. Sunny fell asleep without any supper.

The following morning, Sunny came to school with a vengeful heart. She evilly eyed everyone who passed by her, scaring them out of their wits. She was about to pass by the group she hated the most. The popular kids group. They never really cared about her but once they decided to make fun of her fashion sense which was weird, childish, and old fashioned.

“So yesterday we were playing soccer but I was just a cheerleader though I kicked the ball a couple of times or so…” blabbed Rhonda Kim, the leader of the popular group. Sunny walked passed them but after seeing what she had worn the other day, they couldn’t help but call her out and about it.

“Hey Ronald McDonald!” called the girls. “Where’s your burgers? Oh wait! I think you stuffed your with it!” Sunny overheard this as well as their laughing. She tried so hard to control her anger but it was just too much. First it was Sungmin then her mother and now people at school. She wasn’t having any of it anymore.

“You really shouldn’t be messing with me, Rhonda Kim.” said Sunny gloomily.

“Yeah? Why? What are you gonna do about it, munchkin?!” the group cackled all together and howled out their catchphrases. Sunny felt her blood boil, filling her up to the brim. She did nothing neither did she say anything. She just left and headed for her classroom. The group continued to talk about her and holler bad things. Sunny was really getting angry but decided to brush it off and wait to catch everyone off guard.

In the classroom was Sungmin. Unlike before when he’d sit beside Sunny and they’d talk during classes and he’d help her out whenever she needed a bit of assistance with the schoolwork, Sungmin was worlds away from her. He sat far, far away from Sunny, maybe as a result of what had happened last night when he was forced to go too far and succumb to temptation. Since Sunny was feeling a bit down because of the taunts that she received from the mean group, she stood up and shyly approached Sungmin. Sungmin was reading his Bible for Bible class when he felt her presence behind him. He said nothing and continued reading.
“Sungmin please don’t be indifferent. I’m here. I’m your friend. Please talk to me. I need you now.”

“You have pulled me into the world of sin.” Sungmin said angrily and strangely. “Get away from me.” Sungmin stood up and moved farther away from Sunny, breaking her heart ultimately. If there was one person in school that she wouldn’t dare hurt no matter how mean he was to her (though it was his first time to act mean to her). Sunny could never exercise her devil powers over him.

“RONALD MCDONALD’S GOT A BOYFRIEND!!!” Rhonda announced to the class. Sunny looked at her with sad/angry eyes while Sungmin buried his face in his hands out of embarrassment.

“Go away.” he said coldly yet sadly. Sunny felt her heart sink. The group continued to laugh and as she went back to her seat and sat down quietly. All throughout the lesson Sunny was asleep, creating an opportunity for the bullies to throw paper balls and things at her. This woke Sunny up and fueled the anger in her. Class was dismissed a few minutes later and they all went their separate ways.

The group that had been preying on Sunny were walking down the hall together. In their place, the ground started to shake, slightly toppling the lighter ones.

“Woah. What was that?” Rhonda asked.

“What? I didn’t feel anything!” Christian said trying to act innocent though he felt the ground move. And when the ground was moving, it was a sure sign that Sunny was angry. Either that or an earthquake was actually coming.

“Come on, let’s just go to the Student Lounge.” said one member. So they headed to the Student Lounge, a place in the high school where the students usually go to if they want to relax and hang out. The group entered the unusually quiet and empty Student Lounge and took the opportunity to take pictures and basically just go crazy among themselves, to have a party in there.

Little did they know that their party was about to be cut short.

Rhonda, the female ‘leader’ of the group was dancing hyperactively to some techno party music that they were playing when she felt something tight gripping her wrist. It got tighter and tighter to the point that her circulation was nearly cut. The gripping pain ended and Rhonda fell to the floor. Her friends gathered around her and asked her what was going on.

“I felt something grab me. Something really tight.”

“You were just having too much of a good time!” a friend said. “Don’t exhaust yourself. We still have classes you know!”

“And a party to attend to tonight!” Rhonda was really weak on the floor. She tried to stand up but discovered that she couldn’t.

“Guys! A little help here please!” They saw Rhonda still ont eh floor and laughed, thought she was messing aroudn with them and was too lazy to stand. Christian took her hand and helped her up and discovered himself that she was really stuck on the floor.

“Guys! Someone is messing with me! Please help! Get some help!” Rhonda screamed. The others ran to the door but the doors slammed shut and locked. They were all forced to sit on the floor and later were glued on the floor. Moving is hard when your but is stuck. Christian tried to scoot his way to the door but he felt hopeless as he was getting nowhere. THe lights began to flicker on and off until they went out.

“What’s going on?” the others panicked. They were all crying and screaming for help but no one could hear them. They heard a smash before the lights went on. As soon as they were , they saw that the windows had been smashed and glass was all over the floor. This made them even more scared. The glass shreds went up in the air and flew straight at them, bruising them. Their bodies were soon covered with wounds, blood, and glass particles. The computers were smashed one by one and one and the wires were all cut off. A hole was bored on the water dispenser and the distilled drinking water came gushing out of its transparent container and onto the computers and the wires, starting a fire. Since they were stuck on the floors and there was no way out, the group had no choice but to suffer the consequences of their bullying.

Sunny on the other hand was smiling evilly while walking down the hallway, making her way to the humble little chapel across the road which was owned by the school.

The guidance counselor who was supposed to be in charge of the Student Lounge came back after her break and was horrified, extremely horrified with what she saw. Shattered windows, broken computers, cut wires, the smell of fire and of course, dead bodies sitting on the floor. She screamed out loud and ran to the principal and security guards for help.

“Alright Sunny, today we are going to study the books of the Old Testaments, the sayings and life applications. Are you ready?” Father Ahn asked. You could see the look of disgust and annoyance on his face. He didn’t really want to teach Sunny anymore. But for the Glory of God and for the sake of doing it, he continued to do so.

“Always.” Sunny mouthed. She peeped through the small window and saw Sungmin along with the other altar boys who were yearning to become young priests. She kept on looking for Sungmin who in turn was doing his best to ignore her though he knew she was there.

“Sunny! Are you paying attention?!” Sunny looked at him sharply with her red eyes.

“What did you tell Sungmin?” she asked with her normal, girly voice with a scary touch.

“I didn’t tell Sungmin anything!” he told a white lie to save himself.

“Liar!” Sunny bellowed and pointed a finger at him, sending him flying over to the altar. He hit his back on the floor and moved backwards, away from Sunny. “You call yourself a priest?!”

“Back off you spawn of the devil!”

“BACK OFF YOU SPAWN OF THE DEVIL!” Sunny mimicked him in a deep voice. Father Ahn was afraid and didn’t know what to do. He took the cross that he always carried with him in his pocket out and showed it to Sunny. Sunny backed up a bit but resiliently fought the holy object by using her telekinesis to bend it backwards, breaking it. Father Ahn was even more terrified but had another option. Holy Water. He took the Holy Water bottle from his pocket out and spirnkled some on Sunny. Sunny didn’t really get wet except for a few spots, giving her dark red marks. Sunny used her power once again to lift the bottle in the air and set it aflame. The bottle then dropped to the floor and vanished.

Sunny stood before Father Ahn, about to do something really violent.
