Chapter 19: Club Eden

[HIATUS] A Complicated Kind of Love.

The next few days were composed of odd gestures and stuttering of sentences. They had hit that point of their ‘relationship’ where everything almost seemed like a delicate subject to touch upon. Both of them were walking on pins and needles. It was like they were brought back to their teenage years when puberty just hit. The awkward stage in which one was just getting accustomed to this new found skin they found themselves in.

Whenever he could, Changmin would sneak over to the seniors’ classroom halls and peek through the windows in order to catch a slight glimpse of Sooyoung. He couldn’t be more thankful that he had one of the longest pairs of legs known to man kind which allowed him to get the best view of his girl.

She never would quite notice his lingering gazes through the glass windows, but her thoughts were also clouded by his mere presence. She’d often stare at her precious gift of his in the form of that cell phone which she held perfectly hidden underneath her desk. Numerous times, she caught herself writing text messages to Changmin only to end up deleting them in the long run. As much as the send button tempted her every nerve, Sooyoung was never brave enough to do so.

Each day, it was a little more difficult to concentrate in class. The new platonic feeling in which they both felt for one another had their minds sailing away from the hours of lectures. School never seemed more exciting during that time. More specifically the second when they’d lay eyes on each other for the first time in the new school day was the peek in the 24 hours.

Skinship was still close to non existent. Changmin knew for a fact that he desperately wanted to hold her in his arms, but was willing to even settle for the brief touch of her hands in his. As for Sooyoung, she was still very much confused with what exactly they were to one another. The titles of ‘boyfriend’ and ‘girlfriend’ were always proclaimed before, but always seemed to be a joke. As much as Eunhyuk,Yuri and Key would refer to Changmin as her boyfriend and she his girl, Sooyoung just didn’t know if that was really the way it was.

Just as the final bell rung through the university, Sooyoung’s cell phone did as well. She stared at the screen for a brief moment. The digits written upon it was quite surprising to her. It was Sunny. She couldn’t quite recall when the last time they had seen each other was nor when was the last time they had spoken.

…oh yeah, it was the time when Changmin declared his feelings for her in the most unique way anyone could think of. --a five minute drive which seemed like a century.

Ever since that one night, Sunny refused to meet up, refused to answer the numerous texts messages or emails she had sent. Before Sooyoung knew it, it seemed as if Sunny disappeared from her life in the blink of an eye as if she was just once a stranger. Sooyoung couldn’t help but smile hoping that they would rekindle the friendship that she treasured. She happily pushed the answer button and cheerfully greeted her long lost friend.

“Sunnyyyyyy~ I’ve missed you. Why haven’t you contacted me? I have so much to say to you. Did you know that-“

“Sooyoung, please be quiet for one second.”

The voice on the other line did not resemble that of her old friend which she remembered. It was cold and harsh, something that was the complete opposite of who Sooyoung once shared her deepest thoughts and secrets with.

“…”

“Just tell Changmin that we’re all meeting up at 8 o’clock. It’s the usual club spot. He should know where that is.”

With that being said, the line went dead. Sooyoung couldn’t believe the person who she was talking to just seconds ago. That wasn’t Sunny…it just couldn’t be Sunny. Why is she contacting Changmin? What would she want from him when she has Sungmin? Sooyoung didn’t understand it at all. She shoved the rest of her belongings into her sling bag and headed out the class in search for the long legged guy.

She needed answers to the questions which were building inside her mind faster than what she could handle.

Rushing down the steep staircase corridors of their prestigious school, Sooyoung spotted the oh so distinctive figure from the corner of her eyes. She picks up her speed a tad bit faster as the urge to find out everything is burning her insides. Her tired legs don’t burden her as the sensation to get to him faster was more relevant at that moment. The pounding of her feet against the stair causes her shoe laces to slowly get undone as the string of fabric eventually comes completely loose and dangles from the side. With the same effect of a banana peel left alone, Sooyoung finds herself slipping as her body loses control and heads on closer to the floor. She closed her eyes quickly and waits for the pain that will soon greet her.

Instead of the hard rough edges of the floor, her body is held upright in the warm hands of Shim Changmin. He let’s a sigh of relief escape his mouth grateful that the girl is fine. He runs his hands down her arms messaging them carefully; although, in all honesty such a thing was not needed. His intentions were that to save the girl he loves, but he can’t help but find this opportunity to apply some sort of skinship.

Sooyoung’s cheeks flush into a tint of coral red. She awkwardly squirms her way out of the embarrassing position she’s in before lightly slapping the guy in his chest.

“I thought you said you’d stay away from Sunny! What are you doing meeting up with her at a club?? Shim Changmin answer me!”

Her cheeks puff out completely in annoyance.

“What are you talking about?”

“Now is not the time to act Changmin. You can’t do that with someone who has a boyfriend!”

“…”

“She called me and said that-“

Changmin quickly grabs her cell phone away from her reach and shoves it into his pocket.

“I didn’t give you this thing so that you can worry about something so stupid like this. Don’t worry it’s nothing. Besides, trust me…my eyes are only interested in you.”

He places his arms firmly on Sooyoung’s shoulders and gazes into her brown big pupils intensely. “Do you understand?”

She shakes her head in response; although, she still slightly questions the generosity of those words in the back of her head.

“Hurry and go get some rest okay?” He begins to readjust Sooyoung’s sweater so it perfectly wraps around her body to protect her from the cool brisk winds of the autumn afternoon.

“I need to stay behind school and deal with something so don’t worry about me. I’m so sorry that I can’t seek you home. Mianhae, I’ll see you bright and early tomorrow morning in school though okay? I’ll promise to make it here extra early so we could you know...possibly talk for a bit? But in all seriousness, Mianhae….”

“Arasso,” Sooyoung stubbornly answers back as she trudges away towards her path back to her house.

--------------------------------------------

Sooyoung sits frozen on her bed staring at the clock as the minutes tic away. The time is exactly 8:00 PM and she wonders whether or not Changmin has gone off to that club to do who knows what with Sunny. She fails countless times in reaching through to Sunny or Changmin. She somewhat understands that Sunny wants nothing to do with her anymore despite her not exactly knowing why. But she questions hard why Changmin isn’t picking up either. After all this time knowing each other, one thing that she knew very well was the fact that Changmin would always pick up her calls.

Sooyoung makes up her mind right away to find his missing self. The difficult part was figuring out what this ‘usual clubspot was’. She suns over to an occupied Yuri who is pacing back and forth along the living room twirling her fingers upon the phone cord.

Selfishly, Sooyoung disrupts the lovely conversation that she knows her younger sister is having with a kid named Jonghyun, but she needed to know where Changmin was. It was urgent news. The first few times, Sooyoung is met with death glares, but eventually gets the girl to slip that Changmin tends to hand out at a place called ‘Club Eden’.

“Apparently it was his favourite spot to kill time with Eunhyuk and stare at chicks with clothing that seemed to be bikinis. Of course that was when he was SINGLE.”

Yuri made sure to stress that last sentence before Sooyoung might come up with ridiculous ideas. She knew very well that her friend had fallen deep for her unnie.

Sooyoung kisses her sister on the cheek sloppily and teases her hair before rushing out the door in a frantic state of mind.

Is he interested in her? Is it because Sunny is gorgeous or because I’m just…just…Choi Sooyoung?

She looks down at her decent clothes she wore, but to others…what many would call rags. Before she finds him she needs to fix this problem.

---------------------------------------------

Sooyoung pushes the heavy oak door of the infamous club open only to be welcomed with a rush of booming deaf blasting music. The bass of the beats echo through the walls and vibrate through the floor, shaking her thin body. She almost stumbles; now regretting the fact that she traded her reasonable trademark Choi Sooyoung outfit for the ensemble that now covered over her. The red pumps seemed to burn her soles. The low cut tank top didn’t match her personality and the mini skirt was something that she would usually make fun of. She pushes herself through the sea of people and catches a sight that she makes her wish that she could turn back time.

Near the back right side of the club was Sunny and Changmin. They sat alone in the small leather booth seating area in what seemed to be an intimate moment. Sooyoung’s heart drops for a second and her mind goes completely blank. Her feet naturally begin to retrieve backwards away from the scene, but when she brings her head back she spots Lee Sungmin walking towards the direction she is in.

Lee Sungmin. Sooyoung doesn’t quite know how to react. He was once the guy who filled her every thought and mind for the longest time, but now it was different. She didn’t have enough courage to stop and say hello nor did she have the strength to even match eye contact. She covers herself up with her hands and heads to the illuminating women’s washroom sign as a way of escape.

She is thankful that no one is inside, that it is only her to occupy the place. She looks in the mirror. Although it is filthy, filled with lip stick smudges and random graffiti, Sooyoung perfectly notices that the person staring back at her is not one bit happy, but rather really sad. She reaches over to slightly touch her reflection with her quivering fingertips, but is interrupted with the loud noise of the bathroom door swinging open.

A large man stumbles in reeking of heavy alcohol.

“T-T-This is the women’s washroom…”

“Oh, I know very well that it is.” He replies back with slurring words while making his way a tad bit closer to her every second.

“I-I-I’ll just go then.”

Sooyoung walks on over headed towards the exit in a hurry, but his hand grips onto her roughly. He pins her down along the wall. She tries her best to break free, but she’s just too weak compared to his overbearing strength. She opens to scream for help, but one of his hands covers the opening. She bites him hard, but her effort doesn't seem to effect him one bit. His free arm throws off her shoes and begins to trace over her toned long legs that are calling out to him.

Her ringtone erupts and it’s Choi Minho. Across the Han River looking out from his balcony for some reason, the guy had this instinct to call her. Sure he missed the sound of her voice and moreover the look of her face, but that night Minho’s fingers abruptly decided to call Sooyoung. Something in the cool air that whistled through his windows didn’t make him feel right. The night it seemed, was a bit eerie.

The stranger who towers over her body throws her cell phone to the ground, causing the thing to shatter into pieces. He pulls onto Sooyoung’s hair making the girl release little yelps of pain which makes him enjoy this fun 'game' all the more. He brought down his hand from and replaced it with the liquor absorbed lips of his.

Sooyoung’s eyes began to water. With every touch this unknown man forced upon her, she couldn’t help but beg in her mind that Shim Changmin would burst through into this washroom and save her.

The salty water flowed down her cheeks effortlessly like a waterfall. They wouldn’t stop…they won't’ stop until she sees him by her side.
