L
Lost and Found/고독Sungjong went to school on Monday as if nothing happened at all.
"Hey!" said L shaking him by the arm. "Did you hear what happened on the news? Two people have been suggested to have committed suicide, and they are from your apartment! Do you know them by any chance?"
"Yeah."
"Are they your step siblings?"
Nod.
"Why would they do that?"
"Stress." Sungjong lied. "You know how people get stressed over university and jobs and stuff, so it came to a point where they could not take it anymore and decided to do that."
"I see. But aren't you having a funeral for them soon?"
"Yeah. It's today and tomorrow."
"But why aren't you there then?"
"My parents told me not to go. They said that I am invisible in their eyes. They said that I have nothing that it takes to be part of them."
L sat there, shocked.
"So they really don't look at you like a normal person?"
"No." Sungjong mumbled sadly.
Again L sat there wide-eyed. But then another thought came to him.
"Are your parents out for the whole of the next two days?"
"Yeah, why?"
"When will your parents be back?"
"10 PM at night."
"Do you wanna come to my house?"
"Uhhhh sure. I'd love to stay for dinner."
"Oh you can! My mom can make us some kalguksu noodles and then after that we can go out to a cafe to get some cake."
"Okay, that's fine since my stepfamily won't be home then."
Sungjong was glad that he finally got to spend some time with L. Sungjong went to L's house where whilst L's mother was preparing the two dinner, L requested that Sungjong teach him how to draw.
Sungjong took out from his bag a set of 2B and 4B pencils, whilst L gave him a pad of paper.
"Okay," said Sungjong, "What do you want to draw?"
"I want to draw you." said L. "I hope I can learn to figure draw and master that, since everytime we have to do figure drawing in art I at it."
"Okay," said Sungjong, "Here's the trick. Many people ignore and underestimate this but you have to perfect in drawing shapes and guidelines first. It's just like learning how to swim where you have to learn to paddle and kick first before you do something big like long distance swimming or diving."
"Uhhhhh.....ok." said L, not expecting this to happen. But truly, he was a little flimsy at drawing shapes, and Sungjong helped him with holding his pencil and how to draw shapes such as circles and squares better.
"Look!" squeaked L, "I've never drawn a shape I knew as a baby so perfectly!"
And that made Sungjong laugh. For the first time in a long time he was able to smile, all because he felt supported and love by his friend.
The hours continued until eventually L gave a hand at drawing Sungjong's face, just after Sungjong demonstrated face drawing by drawing L's face.
When L was done, Sungjong giggled.
"Not bad," he said sarcastically, "You just need to work on the shadows and the outlines of the nose and eyes, and maybe not exaggerate the dimples too much. Other than that you're pretty good at this."
"Awwww shucks." said L. "It was nothing. But how can you draw so fast in just 5 minutes?"
"It takes time and practise and patience." said Sungjong with a wink. "I've been doing this since I was 7."
L stared at him in amazement at his talent.
It was not long before it was dinner time and the boys were having so much fun they did not want to stop.
But they were ready for dinner eventually.
Sungjong stared in amazement; he never had this much of food all to himself.
He slurped the noodles happily, whilst L's mother stared at the two eating so well.
After dinner, the two decided to go to the mall to hang out at a cafe and eat some cake, just before L brought him back home.
Sungjong got back home, as expected his stepfamily was not there. He quickly prepared for bed as he snuggled up and slept.
