JAMES’ POV:
 

Things were already grumbling in my mind. I really do not know what to say.

All that was able to slip from my tongue was the word sorry and tears started falling

from my eyes. I am the mighty James Reid. The last time that I cried as far as I could

remember is when I was in sixth grade when I had to leave the Philippines and Ann.

But now, it seems like mighty James has weakened. Seems like mighty James lost his

mightiness, and it seems like Ann is the reason for this. I cried my heart out as I hugged

her so tight. She hugged me back as if she was trying to comfort me. “I don’t want this to

end Ann.” Were the words that came out from me. She suddenly broke the hug and we

faced each other. “You shouldn’t say sorry to me.” she suddenly said. I was confused

of what she was saying. “What do you mean?” I asked. “It was my entire fault James.

If I didn’t barge in your relationship with Devon, I wouldn’t have ruined our friendship and

so as your relationship.” She said as she holds on my shoulders. “No Ann. It wasn’t your fault.

You were right in the first place. When you told me Devon was just using me. You were right

the whole time you were being suspicious on her. Everything you said was right.”

I said.

[Note: James was retelling to Ann what had happen before.]

Flashback..

“Do you trust really trust her James?”

“Of course! Why shouldn’t I?”

“I think she’s hiding something from you.”

“Stop those suspicion thing Ann! You planning to be an investigator after college huh?”

“Shut up! I’m just warning you James, I don’t feel like trusting her.”

“I know why.”

“Huh?”

“You’re just scared she might take up your place as the queen, right?”

“Of course not!”

“Really? So then stop all of this bull Ann!” *walked out*

End of flashback…

“You’ve warned me before but I didn’t listen. Instead, I yelled at you. I even said

those foul words to you.” I explained. She was just staring at me all along. I don’t know

what’s in her mind. I couldn’t even predict on what she’s thinking right now seems like her

eyes were emotionless. “James, let’s just forget about everything. I wouldn’t ask nor talk

about it anymore. Let’s just start anew. And if ever my memory would come back, I would just

think that it was just a nightmare. Let’s forget about those things that have hurt us before.

Let’s move on now. If I have done something to you, please forgive me James. And you

are also forgiven.” She finally said which made me froze. “Ann.” Was all I was able to say

when she spoke once again, “Everything happened so fast. It was just as if yesterday when

I woke up and realized I can’t remember anything. And now we are here in my room talking

about the past. James, I don’t understand all those things you were talking about. And I guess

I don’t feel anything about it. I don’t feel pain, anger, or whatever.” She paused for a

moment and continued. “Maybe I have moved on. My heart wasn’t affected with the accident

so it means it didn’t forget anything. Only my mind forgets the past but my heart didn’t for sure.

I don’t feel anything anymore James so it would mean, we are okay. I don’t feel hatred or betrayal.

All I know is that when I woke up, everything was fine. I don’t think I should go back to the past

where everything was all messed up.” She said as she went closer to me. “What are you saying?”

I asked still confused on what she’s relaying to me. “Let’s start anew. Let’s start as new friends.

Let’s erase all things that happened in the past. Let’s be strangers once again.” she said as she

gave out a smile. I was taken aback with all what she said. I was still in the state of disbelief.

“Hi. My name is Ann Li, and you are?” she said as she held out her hand for a hand shake.

I was still frozen but I managed to speak. I wasn’t even sure if I would agree in this but I have

no other choice. I have to make it up to her and if I need to be a complete stranger to her, I

would do it just to take away all the pain I have given to her. “I’m James Reid.” I said as I

shook her hand. “Nice name huh? How’d you get to my room?” she joked which made the two

of us laughed. “I guess we could be best of friends.” She said. I just smiled and didn’t reply.

“I want ice cream.” She suddenly said. I looked at her to see her reaction. It seemed like

nothing just happened. She’s really the Ann I knew even before. “Well I guess I should treat

my new friend with an ice cream?” I commented and she chuckled. “Okay but I have to change

first. I didn’t even get a chance to take a bath so I think you should wait for me outside?” she

said which made me laugh a little. “Oh I guess you’re the one who was stinking?” I teased. She

went to her bed and got a pillow and threw it to me. “Shut up!” she yelled. “I was just kidding!”

I said as I went closer and hugged her tight as tickled her. I used to do this even before.

“Hey stop it!” she commanded. “What if I wouldn’t?” I said as I continued tickling her.

“Stop it! Please stop it!” she said as she tried to hold back her laughter. She struggled to get

away from me. When she was almost able to escape, I was able to pull her back which caused

us to face each other. But it wasn’t just like that; our faces were an inch apart. I was stunned

seeing her beautiful face. I didn’t know how beautiful she was. This never happened before.

If it does, I never mind looking at her this way. She was beautiful though without make up on.

She’s beautiful though her hair was all messed up. She’s beautiful just the way she is.

“Wait! What am I thinking! James!” I said to myself. I didn’t realize I was already staring at her.

She was able to escape from me because of that. “I guess you’re not a good police man

Mr. Reid! I just escaped from your hands that easily!” she teased as she went in the bath room.

“I was just giving you a chance Ms. Li! The next time I would catch you, I’ll never let you go!”

I exclaimed. “Wait! What did I just say?” I thought to myself. I was shock wit those words that

came from my mouth. I don’t know what to say afterwards and so I made an excuse to go out.

“I’ll just wait for you outside.” I said as I went out her room. While I was walking down stairs, I

kept on thinking on what I just said.

Flashback..

“I was just giving you a chance Ms. Li! The next time I would catch you, I’ll never let you go!”

End of flashback..

“What the hell are you thinking James?” I scolded myself. When I was down, I went to the couch in the living room and sat there as I waited for Ann. I saw a picture of us two when we were in a skating rink for Ann’s ice skating competition. I took the picture frame and stared at it while reminiscing what had happen.

Flashback..

“Do you think I would win this?”

“Of course you will! You’re Ann the Great remember?”

“Yeah right!”

“Okay, if you’re not sure if your Greatness can overcome this then, I’ll give you some of my mightiness.”

“What mightiness are you talking about? Stop bragging about it James, cause you’re not mighty!”

“You want me to prove it?”

“Uhuh!”

“Okay then *kisses Ann on the cheek*”

“Hey! What’s that for?”

“A piece of James Reid’s mightiness.”

“What?”

“Hey! It’s your turn Ann! I know you’ll win this!”

Ann performed her routine gracefully. She even garnered a standing ovation to the

crowd because of what she did. And so when the winners were announced, Ann bagged

the trophy and awards for the first place. Everyone was so proud of her most especially James.

“See! Without a piece of James mightiness, Ann wouldn’t win!”

“So you mean I wasn’t really good enough?”
 

“Of course not! you just need a little push.”

“Little push?”
 

“Yup! I was just kidding about giving you a piece the mightiness thing and you believed it. And so the whole time you were performing, you thought that you are might like me so you did your best.”

“Huh! Whatever.”

End of flashback

“Hey I’m ready! Let’s go?” a voice asked. I looked up and saw Ann in a beautiful yellow

dress. “We’re just out for an ice cream. Don’t you think you’ll be dressing up too much?”

I teased. She stuck out her tongue and she went closer to me. “What is that?” she asked

as she looked at what I was holding. “This was taken after your competition where you won.”

I said. “Really? I won in a competition?” she asked in excitement. For a short moment she

kept quiet. “Oopss.. we’ve just met. We shouldn’t be talking about these stuff. Okay let’s just

have our ice cream.” She said as she turned her back. I returned the picture frame from where

it was and I followed Ann. I opened the door for her and closed it as well. I ran to the other

side of the of the car and went in. I started the engine and drove out the Li’s residence.

“I want strawberry ice cream!” she said. “You? What do you want?” she asked. I was about to

complain that she already knows it but I remembered she doesn’t know anything. “Chocolate.”

I said. “That’s delicious.” She commented. A few moments later, she received a txt message. As

her phone rang, I looked at her and back to the road. “Who’s that?” I asked. “Ivan.” She answered.

“! I forgot about him.” I thought to myself. “What did he say?” I asked. “Uhm, nothing. He would

just want to meet me.” she said. “But it’s our date? You just can’t leave me.” I complained.

“Wait, did I just say date?” I asked myself. “Date? Hey we just have met and you’re calling this a date?

So fast Mr. Reid huh.” She teased. “Seriously, are you meeting him?” I asked to divert the topic.

“Well, as you say, it’s our date. I would be so rude if I’ll just walk away from my date right?”

she said as she’s quoting every time she would mention the word date. “Well, good then.” I

said as I smiled in victory. When we were already in the mall, we headed to the ice cream shop

and chose our ice cream flavors and the toppings. After which, I paid for the ice creams and we

sat on the seats. “Can I ask you something?” she said. “Sure. What is it?” I said as I on the

spoon. “How long have you been friends with Ivan?” she asked. “Ivan?” I repeated. “Yup.” She said.

“I have known him since first year high school. I’ve studied in a University in Australia for two years

when my family stayed there for a business. I met him there and we became good friends.” I said.

“Really?” she exclaimed. “Yup.” I guaranteed. “So, how long is he and Tricia?” she asked. “Wait,

are you spying on Ivan?” I asked. “Why is she asking so many things about Ivan? Does she like

him?” I thought to myself. “Well, it’s just that, I wanted to know. How should I suppose to act

when in fact I don’t know anything?” she explained. “You’re kidding right? You’re not going

into that crap Ann!” I commanded. “Crap? What crap are you talking about?” she asked

innocently. “Acting as Ivan’s girl to make Tricia jealous!” I yelled. She was teary eyed already.

I didn’t realized I have said it a loud that the people around were already staring at us.

“Ann, I’m sorry.” I said. “I need to go to the wash room.” she said as she ran to the wash room.

I followed her up and waited for her outside. “Ann, you okay? I’m sorry if I yelled at you. I didn’t

mean to.” I tried to explain but it seems like she was already not in the mood. “I want to go

home now.” She said sadly. “Is that so?” was all I was able to say. We went to the parking lot,

got in the car and drove back to the Li’s residence. It was still 2 o’clock in the afternoon when

we reached to their house. We got out of the car and Ann walked up to her room. I followed her

in. “I want to be alone James.” she said. “Ann, we need to talk about this.”  I said as I tried to catch

her eyes up but she would look away. I decided to trap her so that we could talk properly.

“Let me go!” she commanded. “I won’t Ann. We have to talk about this. I won’t go nor let

you go if we couldn’t talk properly.” I said. “Okay fine. But please let me go.” She pleaded.

I released her from my arms. She sat on her bed and I sat on the couch. “Ann, Ivan’s a

good man but you shouldn’t be dragged to his problems.” I explained.

“He saved my life James I think I should pay back to him even just this way.”

She said. I feel guilty of what had happen. I know I was part of the reason why she

lost her memory. If I was just by her side, she wouldn’t be hit by a car.

“Ann, you could do at least another thing. Not this.” I suggested. “No James. I think this

is the only thing that I could for him. Please understand.” She said as tears started falling

from her eyes. It pained me seeing her cry. I stood up from the couch and ran to her

side. “Hey Ann! Okay, I wouldn’t stop you from doing this anymore but please. Please

promise me to tell me everything that you’ll be doing and where you’ll be going.” I said to

calm her. “Really?” she asked. I just nodded. “Thank you Mr. Reid!” she said as hugged

me tight. I hugged her back as well.
