The Past: Insensitive James
The PastJAMES’ POV:
It was already 7 in the evening when I arrived in the Li’s house.
When I was already inside their house, I saw Ann standing holding her head.
I called her for so many times but she didn’t respond as if she was hearing
nothing. Suddenly, she just fell from where she is. I ran as fast as I could
to get her. she was so pale and cold. “Manang Linda!” I called. Manang
Linda called out the other maids and she asked them to fix her room while
Manang Linda called out the Li’s family doctor. I carried her to her room in
a bridal style. After the maids have cleaned and prepare her bed, I laid her
slowly as if I was holding something fragile. I stayed up with her while Manang
Linda called up Ann’s mom. We waited for almost half an hour for the doctor.
When she was already there, she checked up on Ann. “Why is Tita Sandy not
here yet?” I asked Manang Linda. “She’s in an important meeting. She wished
she could be here but she just can’t leave their clients.” Manang explained.
“Is that so?” was all I could say when I focused my attention back to Ann. After
the doctor have checked Ann, me and Manang asked her about Ann’s condition.
“Is she okay?” I asked. “Don’t worry. She is just still in the state of recovery. Just
don’t let her think too much. It would stress her even more.” the doctor said. We
just nodded with all she reminded us. When she was about to leave, Manang
Linda offered to come with her. And so me and Ann were only in the room. She
was still asleep. I looked around and saw the diary and a picture on top of the
study table. I held the picture and realized it was a photo of me and Ann when
we had our friendship anniversary when we were 16. We were so happy in that
picture as we never thought we would be ending up this way. I turned the picture
to the other side to see if there was written behind it, and I was right. There was
something written behind it which made me shock.
“LUCKY IM IN LOVE WITH MY BEST FRIEND” “What is this?” I asked myself.
I looked at the sleeping Ann while holding the picture. “Was she hiding it a long time ago?”
I asked myself. The flashback during the time she confessed came back to me.
FLASHBACK…
When Ann told James what she learned about Devon, their friendship was all
ruined. James wouldn’t talk to Ann anymore which made her feel devastated.
And so she did everything just to make up with him. Ann was deeply in love with
him ever since they were younger. Ann kept everything even though it hurts her
seeing James with different girls especially the girl that really made him crazy in
love, Devon. She kept all the hurt all along. She pretended to be happy though
she wasn’t. Until she learned that they’ll be marrying each other. She was the
first one to know about the marriage thing and so she told Devon about the marriage.
Devon felt bad and confronted James. This made James mad even
more to Ann.
“Why did you tell her that we’re engage when in fact we’re not?”
“It’s true James we’re engaged!”
“You’re crazy Ann! What’s gotten in your mind?”
“My mom told me about the marriage thing!”
“So what’s your purpose in telling that to Devon?”
“Because..”
“Tell me!”
“James I’m sorry! I didn’t mean to!”
“Stop it liar!”
“But I wasn’t lying!”
“Stop! Stop it please?”
“But you won’t..”
“Leave me alone! I don’t need a liar like you!”
“I love you James!”
“Stop this Ann. You’re making me hate you even more.”
“I did this because I love you. I love you James Reid!”
END OF FLASH BACK
“Damn. She was in love with me without me noticing it? What kind of a man am I?”I
asked myself. I looked at Ann and felt pity for her. “This is my entire fault.” I said
to myself. “How could I not realize everything that happened?” I thought to myself.
I went closer to Ann and I could still see her asleep. I decided to call Ivan to
apologize for what I have done the other night. I left the Li’s residence and headed
to the bar to meet up Ivan. When I arrived there, he was already taking up a drink.
I went closer to him and gave him a pat. “James!” he said. “Hey.” I said as I sat on
the seat next to him. I signaled the bartender for a drink. While I was waiting, I
spoke up to break the ice between me and Ivan. “I’m sorry for the other night.” I said.
“OH that? It’s okay dude. I definitely understand.” He said. “Thanks dude.” I said as I
gulped on the drink the bartender just gave me. “Thanks for inviting me here dude,
I really need this.” He said as he gulped on his drink. “Got a problem?” I asked.
“Tricia, she’s back.” He said. “I thought she’d be staying out for good?” I asked.
All he just answer me was a shrug. “And about that, I’m sorry if Ann’s dragged
again.” he said. “What do you mean?” I asked in confusion. “I presented Ann as
my girlfriend to Tricia.” he said. “What? Dude, are you out of your mind? Why didn’t
you grab it as you chance? Why the hell did you use Ann?” I continually asked. “You
know what? You two are really best of friends, you know, she asked me those things
as well.” He said. “Look. Just stop this okay. Can you just let Ann out of this?” I asked.
“I don’t know.” Was all he was able to answer. I figured out he have drank even before
he came to this bar and therefore, he was already drunk. “Hey Ivan. Your drunk!” I said.
“I’m okay dude.” He said. “No, you’ll go home now. I’ll take you home.” I insisted. He fell
asleep in the seat in the bar. I was having a hard time bringing him alone because of the
fact he was bigger than me. And so I paid the bill and seek the help of the bartenders. I
drove Ivan home. His mom was the one who welcomed me. I gave in his keys to his mom
and left. “Ivan’s dragging Ann to trouble.” I thought to myself as I drove back home.
