Baby Steps

Just My Luck

Seohyun shivered when she felt Yoona’s fingers touching her chin in a feathery brush, slightly tilting Seohyun’s face to the side so they could kiss in a better angle. The older girl was still surprised (in a very pleasant way) by the kiss, but she unconsciously wanted it so bad that she didn’t oppose it at any moment. Seohyun’s plump lips felt amazingly good against her own, almost like they were meant to be. Yoona considered deepening the kiss, but in the end decided to softly pull away and rest her forehead against the maknae’s. She slowly opened her eyes, as if waking up from a dream, and was met with the glorious sight of Seohyun smiling, with her adorable chubby cheeks tinted a light pink color. Yoona herself felt heat on her cheeks as she thought on what had just happened. She had kissed Seohyun; her savior, the ultimate best person she had met ever since she moved away from her hometown, the one who had done so much for her… Deep inside, she knew she was falling for her. It was no coincidence that she always got lost in the girl’s shy smile, or that she couldn’t say no to whatever Seohyun asked of her, or that she felt she needed to give Seohyun the world and still, it wouldn’t be enough. And not because Seohyun asked for it (because she obviously didn’t), but because all Yoona wanted was to make her feel loved and worthy. She just didn’t know she had somehow confessed it already.

“I know you don’t want me to go out with Luhan, so stop pretending you do.” Seohyun said lowly, yet firmly. Yoona’s hands went to her back, scratching her back and mindlessly playing with the ends of her long hair.

“You’re right, I don’t.” Yoona shook her head, making her nose brush against Seohyun’s. The two felt light-headed because of their current closeness, yet they didn’t dare to pull away from one another. “How did you know?” The question caused Seohyun to giggle softly.

“Last night I did understand what you said in your sleep. You said you didn’t want me to go on a date with Luhan because you like me…” Yoona widened her eyes and blushed, causing Seohyun to giggle harder. The doe-eyed girl couldn’t help but feel slightly relieved that she said that, because she knew she would have never had the courage of saying it while being wide awake. She was too scared of rejection, or maybe terrified of it. Now, her worst fear was proved wrong and she just couldn’t feel happier.

“Wow… You’re such a liar.” Yoona teased, slightly pulling away from the younger girl.

“It was for a good cause, Yoona-unnie…” Seohyun muttered, pouting. The older girl couldn’t help but smile as she gathered Seohyun into her arms, bringing her into a warm hug. Seohyun hugged back and rested her cheek on Yoona’s shoulder, sighing in pure bliss. Things were going even better than she had planned them to.

“I have so many things to tell you… I don’t know how I’ve kept them inside all this while.” Yoona said, running her hands through Seohyun’s hair. The latter had a tight grip on her midsection, almost like if she feared Yoona would disappear.

“I know, me too…” Seohyun answered, squeezing Yoona one more time before letting her go. The latter took Seohyun’s hand and led her to the couch, where they sat side by side.

“You go first.” Yoona smiled, poking Seohyun’s cheek with her free hand. The maknae averted her gaze for a moment before meeting Yoona’s eyes again.

“I’m sorry I kissed you all of a sudden like that, but I just couldn’t stand hearing you talk about Luhan over and over…” Seohyun started, making them both laugh. “E-Ever since I met you, I’ve just felt more secure, even when we didn’t know each other well, I just felt like you were trustworthy. I have a lot of trust issues, but somehow you seemed to break all that. I feel like you really do know me, like no one else does… Not even Hwayeon, who pretty much raised me, managed to make me open up as much as you have. When I’m with my friends I always show a strong side of me that totally disappears when you’re around, so I think… You’re the only one who has seen me at my worst…” The younger girl’s voice broke a little as she finished, as she lowered her gaze. Yoona gave her hand a reassuring squeeze.

“Well, guess what? I’ve seen you at your worst, and I still think you’re amazing.” Seohyun looked up at the genuine compliment, smiling widely at Yoona. Seohyun swallowed the lump in and thought of her next words.

“I didn’t tell you this, but you kind of healed me too.” The doe-eyed girl furrowed her brows and tilted her head to the side, waiting for Seohyun to continue. “According to the doctor, my blood test showed a drastic hormonal change that saved me from relapsing, and it could only be caused by me liking someone. It was then that I realized that it was you who I’m falling for…” Yoona widened her eyes and showed her usual alligator smile, making Seohyun’s stomach flutter with butterflies.

“Omo… I really can’t believe this… This could surely be the best day of my life…” Yoona ran a hand through her hair. Seohyun laughed as she squeezed Yoona’s hand, letting her know that everything that was happening was real.

“Mine too. I guess it’s your turn to come clean now, huh?” Yoona nodded repeatedly.

“That day you dropped your wallet in Baru and we talked for the first time, I’m not going to lie, your beauty definitely drew me in.” The doe-eyed girl laughed, blushing at the same time.

“I could say the same, Yoongie.” Seohyun added, making Yoona blush harder because of the compliment and the nickname. She looked so cute that the younger girl wanted nothing but to lean forward and press her lips delicately against Yoona’s cheek. She longed to do so, actually, but she knew there was going to be time for that later, and right now she just needed to listen to what the other girl had to say.

“It all started from there. Then, when the dorms were closed and I didn’t find anywhere else to stay, the idea of leaving the city so soon made me extremely sad. Of course I didn’t want to leave my new friends and my dream of becoming an actress, but you were always in the back of my mind; one of the reasons why I didn’t want to leave was because I felt like I needed to get to know you, and if I left, I’d probably never see you again. For some reason, that thought broke my heart. Then, when I thought I had finally found an affordable place to stay, I had my accident. I should have been used to it already since I’ve always had terrible luck, but I was just desperate. Then, you appeared and… Hyunnie, you’ve been like a true angel. My feelings for you are growing deeper each day. When I found out you were sick, I was amazed by the strength you showed about it. Your kindness had already captured my heart, but when you showed me your vulnerable side, that’s when I realized I’m falling for you. You’re my hero, and I’m glad you’re allowing me to be yours.” Yoona finished. Seohyun was almost in tears, completely touched by Yoona’s words. Her chest felt tight, almost as if her heart was about to explode.

“You’re my hero too, Yoona. Don’t doubt it.” The older girl cupped Seohyun’s face in her hands and leaned forward to kiss her forehead. The latter closed her eyes and sighed contentedly, feeling Yoona’s lips press to her temple this time. She was about to open her eyes when she felt Yoona’s lips on hers again, so she kept them closed and kissed back. Her arms had a mind of their own as they wrapped themselves around Yoona’s neck, effectively pulling her closer. Their lips moved synchronically against each other’s, without any hurry.  Seohyun followed Yoona’s lead, shivering when the latter on her upper lip. It was almost like a common agreement when the two pulled away, resting their foreheads together. Yoona giggled when she felt Seohyun’s eyelashes fluttering against her cheek, which made her pull away completely. Her hands, though, remained cupping Seohyun’s face.

“You should know that you’re my first kiss, Hyunnie…” Yoona whispered, winking at the younger girl. Seohyun widened her eyes.

“Jinjja? You’re mine too!” Seohyun smiled big; she almost couldn’t contain the joy in her heart. Yoona seemed pensive for a few seconds before giving Seohyun a smile that looked somewhat… seductive? It made Seohyun gulp and blush.

“So I was your first kiss and your second kiss, how about I become your third now?” She asked lowly, leaning in for another kiss. Before Seohyun had the chance to protest (and it’s not like she was going to) Yoona’s lips were on hers again. This time, the kiss seemed to be a little more aggressive, but equally passionate to the prior ones. The butterflies in Seohyun’s stomach went crazy once again when Yoona repositioned her hands to rest on Seohyun’s waist. The doe-eyed girl was in Heaven, finally being able to taste Seohyun like she had longed to, but she knew she had to be careful about not rushing things. She nibbled on Seohyun’s bottom lip, eliciting a small gasp from her. Yoona was feeling confident enough about deepening the kiss when she felt Seohyun’s hands moved from her neck to her shoulder, weakly pushing her back. Yoona was startled, as she complied, looking at Seohyun with furrowed brows. Was she having second thoughts now?

“Y-You have to go to school, Yoona… You’re going to be late…” Seohyun said as she tried to catch her breath. She was really enjoying the kiss, but she wouldn’t want to get Yoona in trouble. The latter widened her eyes as she checked her watch.

“Shoot! You’re so right, Hyunnie, now I only have seven minutes to get to school. Aigo, I’ll never make it on time…” Yoona bolted up from the couch and ran to the kitchen to get her backpack. Seohyun bit her lip, already finding a solution to Yoona’s problem.

“I know what you can do, Yoongie!” She exclaimed, stopping Yoona. The doe-eyed girl stopped and gave Seohyun a playful smile.

“If you’re going to ask me to stay here so we can kiss some more, that’s a lovely idea but I have a test today.” The maknae’s face became red in a matter of seconds as she averted her eyes.

“Yoona! Don’t tease me, I’m serious! Do you have a driver’s license?” Yoona nodded her head repeatedly. “You could borrow my car, then.” Seohyun stood up from the couch and gave Yoona her keys. “It’ll take you less than five minutes to get there.” Seohyun smiled, seeing Yoona’s surprised expression.

“Wow… Thank you, Seobaby.” With that, Yoona wrapped her arms around Seohyun’s waist and gave her a breathless, yet tender kiss. Yoona pulled back and rapidly made her way out the door, leaving Seohyun still a bit dumbfounded, thinking that she could definitely get used to “thank you’s” like that.

Yoona made her way to work with a satisfied smile on her face. On top of the change of her relationship status, she had managed to nail her test. The day just couldn’t get any better. The first person she saw when she entered Baru (besides the costumers) was Kris, who gave her a questioning look. The doe-eyed girl looked so aglow that everyone could notice there was something going on with her.

“Hi, Kris.” She greeted, raising her hand for a high five. The blonde superior furrowed his brows as he stared back and forth between Yoona’s hand and her face. “C’mon, give me a high five.” She asked with a smile. Kris stood unmoving for a few seconds before giving in and high fiving Yoona’s hand weakly. The latter smiled even wider and patted his shoulder before walking towards the counter.

“What’s up with her?” He asked himself in a whisper, shaking his head.

Before she could reach the counter, Yoona spotted Sunny, who was cleaning a table. She dashed towards her, startling the short-haired girl.

“Sunny-Bunny!” She greeted in a sing-song voice, making her unnie raise an eyebrow.

“What’s gotten into you?” She asked, slightly pushing Yoona away.

“I have to tell you something!” Yoona whispered-yelled. “Seohyun and I are together.” The short-haired girl stopped her doings and stared at Yoona wide-eyed. The two remained silent for a few seconds before Sunny started clapping her hands.

“Are you serious? How did that happen?! Omo, Tiffany was right…” Sunny said, not being able to hide her smile. Even if she had never manifested it, she was also waiting for the two maknaes to get together.

“I was kind of convincing her about going out with Luhan, when she suddenly kissed me. I’m so glad she made the first move, that makes her so y…” Yoona continued with a dazed expression. Sunny hit her shoulder softly.

“Yah, byun, remember she’s my dongsaeng.” She scolded. The Deer pretended to be offended, putting a hand over her chest.

“I’m not a byun, I’m just telling the truth.” Yoona answered smugly.

“Whatever. So you asked her to be your girlfriend after she kissed you?” Sunny asked. Yoona widened her eyes and paled a bit. “You didn’t?!”

“Well, we both confessed our feelings and kissed a few more times, but I didn’t ask her to be my girlfriend.” Yoona answered, smiling sheepishly. Sunny face-palmed, shaking her head.

“You’re going to make Seohyun do that for you too, Yoona? Poor Hyunnie.” She commented. Yoona chuckled and shook her head.

“She won’t have to, I will.” Yoona answered decidedly. “I’ll ask her to be my girlfriend tonight.” Sunny nodded her head in approval. “None of us mentioned the word ‘love’, and I’m glad. We need to go slow and steady.”

“I’m really happy for you two, Yoona… It seems like you two were made for each other, and I know you’ll take good care of her.” The short-haired girl said, smiling widely. Yoona smiled back and averted her eyes for a moment, knowing that in fact, she was going to take care of Seohyun.

“Thanks, unnie…”

“Hey, girls!” The two turned towards Luhan, who was making their way to them. Yoona paled visibly as she bit her bottom lip. She had been so occupied with her rush of emotions that she hadn’t stopped to think about Luhan and his platonic love for Seohyun. Sunny gave Yoona a sympathetic look.

“Sup, Luhan.” She greeted, giving him a side-smile. The happy-go-lucky boy smiled back at the two of them.

“Nothing much. How are you, noona?” He asked, turning towards Yoona. The latter gave him a tight smile.

“I’m good, and you, Luhan?” He made a vague gesture.

“I’m okay. Let me greet you two properly.” He said as he got around the table and hugged Sunny first. Said girl couldn’t help but smile as she hugged him back. Then, he went to Yoona, giving her an even tighter hug.

“Enjoy his hugs now, he might come with a knife afterwards…” Sunny whispered amusedly as she walked past the hugging duo. Luckily, Luhan didn’t hear her. Yoona gave her a small glare, but in the end acknowledged her unnie was right. She couldn’t imagine how heartbroken Luhan would feel whenever he found out that Seohyun was taken, and by none other than his ‘favorite noona’. The thought made her feel guilty to no end. Luhan pulled away from the hug and pierced her eyes with his.

“Did you talk to Seohyun?” He asked, evidently hopeful. Yoona did everything in her power to not grimace.

“N-No, I didn’t see her last night. Sorry, Luhan, it’s just that we have pretty different schedules. She knows you’re not mad at her, though.” She answered, to which he let out a disappointed sigh.

“Thanks anyways, noona. I know you’ll help me, so I won’t worry.” Yoona felt the urge to throw herself on the floor and start crying like a baby. He gave her a reassuring smile, as if telling her that he wasn’t mad at her.

“Good. Go to the counter before Kris scolds you.” Yoona said softly, nodding towards the empty counter. The slightly older boy nodded and made his way to the cash register. Yoona stared at his back as he went, thinking that breaking the news to him would be much more difficult than she thought it would be.

Later that night.

Yoona opened the house’s front door. She sighed when she found the living room and kitchen to be both empty, even if she already knew it was too late for Seohyun to be awake. She was pretty tired herself even if she drove herself around all day; school in the morning and then working two shifts in a row would get anyone tired. However, she was expecting to formally ask Seohyun to be her girlfriend; she even bought some flowers to give to the younger girl. She took off her sneakers so she wouldn’t make noise and went upstairs. The door to Seohyun’s room was half open, so she peeked inside. The maknae was lying on the bed, and seemed to be asleep. Sighing in disappointment, Yoona went to her own room. She put her flowers aside and changed into a tank top and some shorts. All the while, she couldn’t stop scolding herself for not asking Seohyun to be her girlfriend when she had the chance to. She lied on her bed, and turned off the lights, hoping to sleep, but her thoughts wouldn’t let her. After tossing and turning for around twenty minutes, she just knew she wasn’t going to be able to sleep at all. Sitting on her bed, she came up with the idea that she should needed to see Seohyun before she went to sleep. Maybe she could even lie beside her, she was sure the younger girl wouldn’t mind. Carefully, she stood up from the bed, took the flowers and went to Seohyun’s room. She tip-toed towards the bed, frowning when she saw Seohyun was sound asleep. Putting the flowers aside, she pulled down the covers of the left side of the bed, the one she had taken the night she stayed in that room. She was about to get herself inside the covers when she heard her name being called softly.

“Yoona?” The addressed girl thought it was some kind of déjà vu; like that morning when she had first given Seohyun breakfast in bed. Yoona smiled at her sheepishly while Seohyun rubbed her eyes. The doe-eyed girl climbed on the bed, remaining on her knees, and leaned over Seohyun. The maknae’s heart fluttered when Yoona brushed her bangs out of her eyes and leaned down to give her a soft kiss.

“Sorry I woke you up, Seobaby. I just needed to ask you something.” She whispered, biting her bottom lip afterwards.

“What is it, Yoongie?”

“Would you be my girlfriend?” Yoona asked, holding her breath as she waited for the already-known answer. Seohyun smiled and wrapped her arms around Yoona’s neck, pulling her down for a hug.

“Of course I would be your girlfriend. You didn’t even have to ask.” Seohyun answered quietly, letting go of Yoona.

“That’s all I needed to know.” The older girl answered, moving to get off the bed. Before she could do so, a hand caught her arm.

“Where are you going?” Seohyun asked, pouting. Yoona smiled at the cute sight and pinched Seohyun’s cheek.

“To my room, silly. It’s too late.” She answered. Seohyun shook her head and pulled on Yoona’s arm, making the latter remain on the bed.

“You can stay here if you want.” The maknae invited, making Yoona smile widely.

“Jinjja?” Seohyun nodded her head and patted the spot next to her on the ample mattress. Yoona complied and tucked herself under the covers, next to Seohyun’s body. She reached out for the younger girl, bringing her closer. Seohyun complied as she rested her head on Yoona’s shoulder and draped her arm around her waist. Yoona wrapped her arm around Seohyun’s shoulders and rested her head on top of hers, sighing contentedly. The two didn’t seem to get enough of each other’s warmth, it didn’t matter how close they were. Yoona cursed herself for not confessing sooner.

“Goodnight, Yoona…” Seohyun whispered through a yawn, snuggling closer to the older girl. Yoona smiled and rubbed her cheek against the top of Seohyun’s head.

“Goodnight, Hyunnie, sweet dreams.” It didn’t take long before both of them drifted off to sleep, with a smile on their faces. They just knew the day couldn’t have gone any better.

Chapter 22: Omg!! And all that happened when it started as a little game XD
Seriously this is one of the best s I had ever read. It was hot and y (a lot) but it wasn't vulgar (something that isn't common, you found a balance)
I've been reading the story in less than a day and it took me this little time to fall for the story
I'm not that found of drama but this is like my only exception.
Thumbs up !! Because it really it's and amazing story and I'm sad because I didn't find this fic sooner :(
You're a great writer !!
