Jiyong

I stare at the blackboard, trying to comprehend what Ms. Yoon was writing down. I watch her drop the piece of white chalk she was holding in her hands. I sigh and I look beside me, seeing what my best bud, Youngbae is doing. 

"Jiyong!" Ms. Yoon suddenly calls my name.

"Yes?" I timidly ask, wondering what she wanted. 

"Write the answer to this equation on the board. Hurry up!" Ms. Yoon barks at me and hands me the now broken piece of chalk. I drag my feet to the front of the class and stare at the equation for about 7 seconds before realizing what to do. 

It took me about 1 minute to find out the answer. I can't believe that I'm only in Grade 7 and we're starting to learn Trigonometry in Math class. What is this? The last time I checked, students started learning Algebra in Grade 9 or Grade 10. Or at least, it was like that in my sister, Dami's, case.

Once I check and double check my answer, I proudly walk back to my desk. I watch as Ms. Yoon checks if I answered the question correctly. When she places a checkmark beside it, I turn and glance at Youngbae. As usual, he is scribbling down everything on the board into his notebook. 

This class is such a boring class. I wonder who ever invented math? I mean, who needs it? And if math is life, then I hate life! 

I gaze outside our school. Today is such a beautiful day. I hate how the principal in my school doesn't let us go out on any breaks or recesses. My penpals in Canada get to do that. It's so unfair; the education system in Korea is so much stricter and I hate that!

If only something interesting could happen to me.
