Aftermath
A Loaded SmileHospitals are bleak, lonely places where people come to improve their health, take a stone off their heart or give out their last breath. Those that suffered most weren’t under medical attention. Those that kept their eyes pinned to the floor, those that waited and those that silently prayed – those were the true desperate people whom hospitals were not gentle with.
Hyuna’s entire body was sore. A few cuts on her face were bandaged, while the rest of her agonized. Pain replaced adrenaline. Fortunately, she had no broken or fractured bones and no broken skull. She was lucky like that – always tempting faith. She sniffed. She rubbed her right eye and sniffed again. She wasn’t allowed to cry. She did not even think she had tears left in the first place.
“Here,” Hyuna lifted her eyes and took the canned water from Hyunseung. The detective took a seat near her and leaned against the wall, his legs spread as he held his own water between his hands. “How is he?”
“Stable.” Hyuna answered as she pressed her cheek against the cold tin can.
“And you?” the redhead turned to Hyuna as she once again found the floor irresistible to watch.
“What is going to happen to them?” Hyuna dodged his question and let a long sigh leave her lungs. She finally decided to open the can and drink. had been dry for a while.
“We have enough evidence to charge them. The government will go through an urgent meeting tomorrow morning and nullify the Agencies.”
“And?”
“And they will be declared criminals. Hyuna,” he didn’t try one bit to avoid her eyes “Joon is going to jail. Maybe for life.”
“And?”
“And what?”
“Do you think that will make a difference?” Hyuna played with the canned water. She spilled a little on the floor, urging Hyunseung to clean before somebody would see. “I wonder how many lost their life because of them. How many people shouldn’t have had their death sentence signed so early...” Hyunseung looked up from the floor after he wiped it clean.
“Hyuna...”
“What about Ga-In?”
“We are still looking after her, but the official search will start after the case is handed to the prosecutors.”
“So she’s a fugitive.” Hyuna stated without a single line of expression on her face “And Hyosung?”
“She was declared dead at the scene.”
Both kept silent. Hyunseung took back his seat and decided against drinking water.
“I wonder...” Hyuna stared at the pristine walls “What drove her to do all this.”
Hyunseung slowly caressed her fingers before he grabbed Hyuna’s hand tight. She did not resist.
“Don’t excuse her actions.”
“If I don’t do that, how can I forgive Joon?”
Machines silently dispersed on the background. Joon lay in bed with an oxygen mask strapped to his face. Hyuna let go of Hyunseung as she used her hand to softly remove a few strands from Joon’s peaceful face.
Hyuna traced her arm’s veins.
“Is it possible to get tested for drugs?”
“Have you been drugged?”
“I don’t know. But there’s something I don’t feel right about. Both me and Joon...” she shook her head “I don’t know. Can I?”
Hyunseung nodded. “I’ll make sure everything will be alright from now on.”

“I couldn’t do it.”
Narsha closed her tablet and hid it in her bag. She kept a watchful eye after any nurse, doctor or police officers that were lurking inside the hospital. “Ga-In...” Narsha dropped her formal speech as she embraced her superior and at the same time, dear friend. “It’s all over.”
“I just... couldn’t.” Ga-In choked as she covered with her hands. She couldn’t hold it anymore.
“Have you told him?”
Ga-In grabbed her hair and violently shook her head. “No, no,” she repeated “I couldn’t tell him. I just couldn’t.” Narsha gently removed Ga-In’s fingers before the former General became bald.
Changmin knocked lightly at the door before he entered. “Hurry up, they are sending people to guard his room.”
Narsha helped Ga-In wipe her tears. The brunette left a final kiss on Junsu’s forehead as she bid him farewell. There was no turning back and as much as she would love to hide for once behind her fears, she had some hope left inside of her. More importantly, one that grew bigger with each month. Her fingers touched her belly.
“It’s better this way.” She concluded and left ahead of Narsha and Changmin.
“What about the building?” Narsha asked as she followed her and Changmin. The now former Sun Secretary waved his hand.
“I burned that place down. With the amount of data we erased before unlocking the building, they will never know the full story.”
Narsha nodded, unsure anymore of the path she had chosen. Starting from the following day, every single agent that ever served a Legion would be brought in for questioning and charged with first degree murder.
“Is this really the end?”
Changmin snorted.
“No. The best agents will find a way to escape, some loop in the system or fight their way against the police forces. The rest will probably receive a minor punishment. And us,” he shrugged “Well, they’ll have to find us first.”
“Are we the bad guys?”
Changmin stopped, looked at Narsha and then decided it was best not to answer.
When outside, Ga-In watched the full moon blooming over the night sky.
“I’m going to take care of Ga-In,” Narsha told Changmin as she gave him a smile “Are you staying with Junsu?”
“He’s a bastard,” Changmin watched as Ga-In touched again her belly “But I guess I’ll have to look after him.”
