CHAINS

CHAINS: Chain 01

Kai’s POV:

I yawned, awkwardly getting up from the comfort of my bed and made way to my bedroom’s wall sized window. Hmm, the sky looks extremely murky today. Just great, it’s probably going to rain. I closed my eyes tiredly and ran a hand through my bed hair. When my eyes opened, I tucked my hand back into my sweatpants pocket and continued to look up to the grey sky. I frowned and shook my head.

For some reason, I don’t have a good feeling about today and it’s not because of the weather…

I turned away from the window and headed over to the bathroom. It’s still quite early, but I might as well get ready for school.

Once I finished making myself look presentable, I trailed down the flight of stairs and went directly into the kitchen. I don’t feel all that hungry so I’ll just take an apple from the fruit basket. I quickly grabbed one and walked out, now standing in the living room. I took a bite from my apple and grabbed my school jacket from the clothing rack that stood nearby the front door. I lazily put my arms through the sleeves and then proceeded to place on my shoes. A maid appeared before me and handed me my school bag. I smiled and thanked her. She bowed and quickly opened the door for me. I nodded to her in acknowledgement and walked away.

Down the driveway I could see Shindong standing next to our limo. Limo? I raised a brow and lightly huffed, making my cheeks puff out a bit as I walked to him.

Shindong is my personal butler and has been ever since I was a young child. He’s served my family way longer before I was even born though and since he’s much older than me I regard him more as an uncle than a brother. He’s quite funny, although he likes to act serious just to get on my nerves. He has a stout figure, but it shouldn’t fool you. He’s much more active than he appears.

I stopped in front of him and he bowed down towards me, “Good morning, Master Kai.”

“Hyung, what are you doing with the limo out?” I asked him with my eyebrow still raised.

He slightly pursed his lips into a straight line before speaking, “Oh, well, you know, all of the other cars are out being fixed right now.”

Bwoh? Chincha? All of the cars need to be fixed?

I bit into my apple as both of my eyebrows raised upward towards Shindong. He chuckled lightly then sighed, shaking his head.

“I know, I know, you don’t like it when I drive you to school in the limo, but it’s true, the other cars need to be fixed. They’ve been having issues for some time now and our mechanic kind of had an emotional episode last night and got drunk. He’s in no condition to repair anything so that’s why I have to take you in the limo.”

I sighed, quickly finishing up my apple, “Alright, I understand, just…don’t drop me off in front of the school. You know what happens when Suzy’s there.” I cringed inwardly just at the thought of her.

He laughed at the mentioning of Suzy’s name, “Of course! She’s your crazy number one fangirl, right Master Kai?” He then opened up his left hand. I placed the apple cork in his palm after taking the last bite and eyed him as he took it.

“Well, that’s what she likes to think and hyung, how many times do I have to tell you to not call me ‘Master Kai’?”

He smiled smugly while opening the passenger door, “Well, why do you call me ‘hyung’ even though I work for you then?” He lightly chuckled right after, “I’m sorry, Master Kai, but no can do. I must call you Master Kai and I always will. Now will you please enter the vehicle, Master Kai?”

He said ‘Master Kai’ so many times that I glared at him in annoyance. He even stressed the last ‘Master Kai’ out on purpose, “Fine…whatever hyung.”

I sat myself into the limo seat, while Shindong walked over to the driver seat, a smile plastered victoriously on his face. Once he sat down he quickly disposed the apple cork into the trash bag that he hid in the limo’s front compartment and started the car.

I placed my head against the window, my eyes shifting here and there as I watched the moving scenery passed by. I let my thoughts run around aimlessly, realizing that I had some paper work to review later for the student council since I was the president.

As we came to a stop light, a strange feeling suddenly began to erupt within my chest. I sat up straight, taking my head off the glass window and looked around myself, feeling slightly confused. What is this strange feeling? It felt sort of spooky, almost like a strange presence was behind you, yet for some reason it also felt tingly in a good way.  My gut told me to take a look outside. All I see is a busy sidewalk bustling with people walking in both directions. Nothing seems unusual…wait, except for that one person who’s just standing around. I stared at the small figure trying to get a glimpse of their face, but there were way too many people passing by. The longer I continued to stare at them the faster my heart would pound against my chest.

              What is wrong with me?

There is something about this person that makes me feel drawn to them. I was suddenly feeling desperate. I wanted them to look in my direction even though they can’t really see me through the dark tint of the limo’s window. I then blinked and like magic their eyes immediately locked onto mine as if they could actually see me through the glass. Without warning, my breath shortened and my left hand was suddenly seething in immense pain. I gasped loudly, retracting my eyes away from the beautiful stranger and gripped my left wrist as my whole arm began to twitch fervently now. My body then jolted harshly in pain and just like that it was suddenly gone like it never happened.

What the hell was that? I looked back out the window, but the red light had already switched to green. The car moved away and I couldn’t see the person anymore. I slowly turned away from the window and blinked, confusion written all over my face.

Despite being in excruciating pain just moments ago, my thoughts focused on one thing and one thing only… the stranger. My heart suddenly felt depressed since I couldn’t see their face clearly, much less determine if it was a boy or girl, but their eyes…they’re the most beautiful eyes that I have ever seen. They were surprisingly large in size, almost too abnormal for a person, and not to mention, looked like an owl, but they were adorable nonetheless. I would be in denial if I said they weren’t. I feel like I’ve seen those eyes somewhere before in my life though. I furrowed my eyes trying to remember. Where have I seen those eyes before? Shindong’s concerned voice suddenly interrupts my thoughts.

              “Master Kai, gwenchana?”

               “Huh? Uh…d-deh. Just thinking, hyung.”

I can imagine him giving me the ‘yeah right’ face right now. I shook my head dismissing the whole ordeal. I shouldn’t think too much about this.

Kyungsoo’s POV:

It’s snowing, the ground covered in endless white. There were bare trees scattered about as fallen snowflakes hugged their frozen roots. Where is this place? The endless row of trees can only mean that I’m in Sakura Park, right? My breathing is ragged. I must be running. Running from what or whom, I am not so sure. I can hear muffled shouting in the distance. It was hard to run since the snow came up to my knees, but I kept going even though I stumbled from time to time. Something wet was trailing down my forehead. It was blood. My hand reacted own its own and wiped it away before it could get to my eyes. It started to slide down across my cheek now. Once it reached down to my chin, tiny droplets of blood would fall, tarnishing the white snow and left a small trail of red behind me. Something is coming; I can feel it, although I don’t want to turn my head, I did so anyway. My eyes widened and in a second a flash of light appeared before me.

The memory dispersed leaving me awestruck as I stood there on the sidewalk. That was a memory I threw away such a long time ago. It was when I was little and ran away from the main house. Why has it suddenly come back to me?

My left hand was suddenly trembling and it flinched slightly. It then clenched back into a tight fist. The overwhelming pain I felt through my body just a few seconds ago had relapsed. I clenched my teeth as the pain coursed throughout my body a final time, my eyes trailing after a black limousine, which has now just turned the corner. I gasped in relief when the pain finally left me.

I shook my head and concentrated on breathing normally. That was really strange. I swear whoever was in that limo was starring right back at me even though I couldn’t really see their face through the dark tint windows it had. It was like I had felt their presence. I raised my left hand and starred at it. Whatever ‘presence’ that was…it felt familiar for some reason.

A bark suddenly brought me back to reality. I blinked a couple of times before looking down; realizing Kimchi was staring at me with worried eyes. I reached down and patted Kimchi’s dark auburn colored head. She softly nudged her nose against my hand and whined a little.

“Don’t worry, Chi. I’m alright.” I smiled reassuringly and gave her one last pat on the head.

She gave me another nudge and my hand this time.

Kimchi is a special kind of dog. She’s usually mistaken as a husky, mixed in with a bit of wolf and yes, she does look like that, but she’s actually not any kind of dog breed. She’s a demon dog and as far as I know, she’s one of the only few demon dogs left to be alive.

I turned my attention back to the bustling city, my eyes narrowing slightly as I looked around. I finally looked up to the dull sky. I closed my eyes and breathed out heavily.

Whatever this feeling is I can sense that from here on out things won’t be the same...

Not the greatest beginning, but it'll have to do.

I know there may be grammar problems here and there. I tend to have a lot of run on sentences and be too descriptive sometimes. Hope that it didn't bother you guys.

Please tell tell me what you guys think of it so far. If you don't understand something don't be afraid to ask.
