Miss Tae?!

Cupid's Bachelors

I stared at myself in the mirror, my hands clenching together as I tried to make sense of what I saw in front of me. I hoped to god that this was a nightmare, a nightmare I hoped to wake up from sometime soon. I looked down at my legs that Mae had made me shave in order to wear the darn skirt. I still don’t know how the hell the skin on my legs felt like a baby’s bum at the moment.

I adjusted the collar of my shirt, ing a few of the buttons in order to breathe properly and not to feel like I was choking. The white, but soft cardigan I wore helped hide my slim, but fit arms from view seeing as the shirt I wore had no sleeves. This uniform really made no sense, but I could not complain. As I turned to my side to look at myself again, I heard a soft nock from the door.

“Tae are you changed?” Mae called out.

“Yea,” I muttered in defeat and turned to face her.

Mae came inside and once she caught sight of me froze. I stared at her for a bit and then around and behind me wondering what the heck she was staring at. I raised a brow at her stunned look but before I could even utter a syllable, she began to squeal like mad. I jumped at the sudden sound as she clasped her hands together and ran to me.

“OMG Tae you look so cute and pretty!” she squealed.

“I’m a guy not a girl!” I hissed.

“Yea well in those close, you definitely make one heck of a girl,” she said giving me a wink.

“That’s it I’m changing back!” I exclaimed and began to push her out.

“Oh come on Tae, Mr. Lee is waiting!”

I groaned; darn that woman for using the boss against me. I huffed before rolling my eyes and allowing her to drag me out of the employee bathroom. The heels of my feet were dragged against the floor as she took me to meet the boss who seemed to have been waiting for us. His expression seemed to brighten at our appearance but I kept hidden behind Mae, thank the heavens for my slim stature.

“Ah there you are, but where’s Tae?” I heard him ask from behind my hiding spot.

I felt stiff and nearly yelped when hands grasped my shoulder before I was turned and pushed forward. I blinked as did Mr. Lee as he stared at me. I hid my face by starring at my feet unsure on what he was going to say.

“Are you sure you’re a boy?”

“Mr. LEE?!” I complained turning red from embarrassment from the teasing.

The old man laughed and patted my shoulder as I sulked. Really, did anyone expect for a boy who is called pretty or cute or questioned about their gender to be happy?! I sure wasn’t and wanted nothing but to crawl and dig myself a hole and hide for the rest of my life. I was not my cousin Heechul for peeps sakes!

“Calm down Tae,” he tried to ease the tension.

“I am not going out there,” I whined as I crossed my arms.

“But we still need you,” Mae complained.

“You think I want to work while dressed like a girl?!”

“No, but you don’t have a choice. The place is at capacity and there are many people waiting for their orders so unfortunately you have to bear it for today,” Mr. Lee expressed causing me to haunch forward.

“This ,” I said before pouting.

I could hear Mae giggle from behind before Mr. Lee said to hurry up and get an apron on before heading back outside. Mae handed it over and I placed it on and tied it without help. I grabbed a platter but froze at the door. I really had no urge to go outside looking like some girl when I was in fact a boy. I sighed, life just sometimes.

“Tae!” I heard from behind and I spun to see Mae rushing over to me.

“You need a finishing touch!”

“A finishing touch?” I asked confused and wary while raising a brow at her.

The woman grinned and I didn’t like it. Before I could even run for my life from the crazed beast, she tugged at my wrist and pulled me to the side. From a vase, she plucked a bright and real flower before turning her attention to me. I waited quietly and blinked when she began to play with my hair for a second. The next thing I know, she was pinning the flower to my hair so it wouldn’t fall off my ear.

“What the—,” I exclaimed and reached for it, but my hand was slapped away.

“Don’t touch it, now you look perfect!”

“Perfect?! Why would I—,” before I could finish my sentence, Mae cut me off.

“Back to work Tae,” she sang and walked out to the front of the café.

I groaned and allowed my head to fall back. Not wanting to anger the woman for later consequences, I just up my pride, grabbed a platter, and walked out. I was greeted by the familiar buzz of squealing, loud chatter, and the sound of the coffee machines running. It seemed that no one noticed me and I was quite thankful for that.

Surveying my area, Mr. Lee was at the table again with his boss and the bachelors and Mae was at the counter. She glanced over at me and sent me a wink before going to help another customer. I sighed and brought the platter to my face before making my way over to a table that needed a cleaning. I was glad that this one only had mugs. I quickly placed them on the platter and wiped the table before moving on to the next one.

As I concentrated on my tasks I forgot about my circumstances and continued on as if nothing had happened. Everyone’s eyes were on the bachelor’s and I couldn’t help but feel thankful for their presence. The only other person I felt so thankful of was Heechul when he took me in when everyone else had turned their backs on me. As I finished that one I heard someone call for assistance and I turned to help; the reaction, however, wasn’t what I was expecting.

The girl gasped and allowed the cup to slip from her grasp. It fell to the ground with a thud and I immediately pushed the platter onto an empty table and rushed over to clean the mess. Remembering that I had a skirt on, I sat like a girl on the floor and began to wipe the mess with the towel I had at hand. I was lucky that the woman had perhaps wanted to ask for a refill, most of the mess was due to the ice in the cup.

“I’m sorry,” she exclaimed.

“Oh, no it’s fine,” I replied taking a final wipe and getting up onto my feet with the cup in my hand and a smile.

Around me, I heard whispers and a few gasps. I furrowed my brows for a second and tilted my head to the side before looking around, noticing that nearly everyone’s eyes were on me. I blinked and questioned if I had done something wrong. However, my question was soon answered by one of the few male guests at the café.

“Wow… you’re beautiful,” I heard a male mutter from one of the tables ahead of where I stood.

“Eh?!” I cried out surprised.

“I wish I looked like you!”

“You’re pretty!”

“What’s your secret?!”

“Where did you come from suddenly?!”

I wasn’t sure what was going on and I just stood there a bit confused. They were acting as if they actually believed I looked like a girl, but that was impossible. I opened my mouth to say something, but closed it again not sure what to say.  I was questioning if they were right in the mind and if they hadn’t seen me earlier in the accident. I was wearing boy clothes and clearly they believed me to be a male then, right?

“Alright stop harassing my employees or I would have to ask you to leave,” Mr. Lee suddenly exclaimed causing every sound to stop around the café excluding the coffee machines.

Everyone seemed to back to what they were doing, but I could still see people glancing my way. I groaned lightly as I heard my boss chuckle; I sent him a glare that clearly stated it was his fault. He raised his hands in defense before grabbing my wrist and pulling me somewhere. I blinked, unsure of what was going on until I stood beside him at the Bachelors’ table.

“I told you he was in fact a she,” I heard someone say and I turned to see the tallest of the group smirk up at me.

As I was about to retort and clearly state I was a boy, Mr. Lee placed his hand over my mouth.

“Please excuse her; she has a bit of a temperament when it comes to the subject.”

I made a noise behind his hand in retaliation but his stare quickly silenced me and I looked away crossing my arms in annoyance.

“She has to hide the fact she is a girl because, well you saw the reactions of everyone else,” Mr. Lee clarified and I raised a brow.

“Yes, we can definitely see why,” said a gentle voice and I turned to see the man that was older, but still looked so young.

To my surprise, he was still wearing the glasses. Perhaps he was Cupid then?

“Ah, excuse me for our rudeness but please call me Cupid. This is Onew, Jonghyun, Minho, and Key,” Cupid introduced them and I couldn’t help but smile at my correct guess.

“Hello, I’m—,” but Onew spoke.

“Tae, we heard a few of your coworkers and Mr. Lee call you,” he said with a sweet bright smile.

I couldn’t help but smile back and nod before Mr. Lee pushed me into the booth and next to Cupid. I blinked and stared at my boss who grinned and sat next to Key on the other end. It wasn’t an overly tight squeeze, but I still had my arm up against Cupid.

“You need a break Tae, so you don’t mind taking it now right,” Mr. Lee said and his tone left no room for arguments.

I nodded, allowing a sigh to escape as I crossed my legs together so no one would be able to see under the skirt. My circumstances just seemed to simply get worst.
