The Fun in Ditching

Searching for The One

Since Yong Hwa also volunteered that he will take her home, she ordered her driver to go.

“So, where are you taking me?”

“There’s this bar named Divulgence…”

“I don’t drink! I think I should just call me driver back…”

“We’re not going to drink Shin Hye-ya! I’ll take you home, remember? I’ll surely be dead if your father knows that I let you. It’s not actually the usual bar where people dance and party and drink.”

“So what is it?”

“You’ll know it when we’re there. Trust me.”

***

“Yong! You’re here. I thought you won’t be able to make it… And whoa! You’re with the… snow queen.” Jung Shin noticed as Yong Hwa approach their table with Shin Hye behind him. Jung Shin was with Jong Hyun and Min Hyuk drinking some iced tea. They are also not the drunkard type.

“I also thought I couldn’t but… things happened so I’m here. By the way, don’t call her snow queen anymore. She’s already had improvements.” Yong Hwa patted his friend’s back.

“Annyeong Shin Hye-ssi.” The three replied with trembling voices.

“Annyeong.” Shin Hye greeted them flatly, but smiled sincerely after. Embarrassed, the three smiled back.

“See?” Yong Hwa told them.

“So, who’s next?” The MC said right after the two girls danced ‘Bad Girl Good Girl’ by Miss A. The crowd cheered and raised their hands, including the four boys. Shin Hye was curious of what was going on.

“Why are you raising your hand?’

“We also want to perform. The audience is also the performer here. That’s why this bar was named Divulgence—a  place where people reveal their talents.” Jong Hyun told Shin Hye awkwardly. He, even the other two, couldn’t believe they are with her.

“Cheer for us, eonni!” The happy Min Hyuk said to her.

“Phaiting!” Shin Hye told them with clenched fist raised.

The MC called the four and they run to the stage and get a hold of their respective instruments. Girls shrieked at the top of their lungs.

“They’re so handsome! Kekeke.” One of them said.

Yong Hwa held the mic and said,

“Annyeong yeorobun! Before, I want to dedicate this song that for the girl who has hated me from our first encounter. Well, things changed. Anyway, I still want to sing this song to let her know. Hope this song gives you hell. Kekeke.”

He winked at Shin Hye then signaled the three to start playing.

“Gives You Hell” by The American Rejects

I wake up every evening
With a big smile on my face
And it never feels out of place
And you're still probably working
At a nine to five pace
I wonder how bad that tastes

When you see my face
Hope it gives you hell
Hope it gives you hell
When you walk my way
Hope it gives you hell
Hope it gives you hell

Now where's your picket fence love
And where's that shiny car
And did it ever get you far
You never seemed so tense love
I've never seen you fall so hard
Do you know where you are

And truth be told I miss you
And truth be told I'm lying

When you see my face
Hope it gives you hell
Hope it gives you hell
When you walk my way
Hope it gives you hell
Hope it gives you hell
If you find a man that's worth a damn and treats you well
Then he's a fool you're just as well
Hope it gives you hell
Hope it gives you hell

Tomorrow you'll be thinking to yourself
Where'd it all go wrong?
But the list goes on and on

And truth be told I miss you
And truth be told I'm lying

When you see my face
Hope it gives you hell
Hope it gives you hell
When you walk my way
Hope it gives you hell
Hope it gives you hell
When you find a man that's worth a damn and treats you well
Then he's a fool, you're just as well
Hope it gives you hell

Now you'll never see
What you've done to me
You can take back your memories
They're no good to me
And here's all your lies
You can't look me in the eyes
With the sad, sad look
That you wear so well

When you see my face
Hope it gives you hell
Hope it gives you hell
When you walk my way
Hope it gives you hell
Hope it gives you hell
When you find a man that's worth a damn and treats you well
Then he's a fool you're just as well
Hope it gives you hell

When you see my face
Hope it gives you hell
Hope it gives you hell
When you walk my way
Hope it gives you hell
Hope it gives you hell
When you hear this song and you sing along but you never tell
Then you're the fool, I'm just as well
Hope it gives you hell

When you hear this song
I hope that it will give you hell

You can sing along
I hope that it puts you through hell

Shin Hye was just silently laughing at her seat. She really enjoyed their performance. Yong Hwa was smiling all the time he was singing. The three boys are also smiling at their hyung because of his unusual energy in their performance. They knew something is going on. The crowd went gaga after they perform. Shin Hye was clapping really hard as the four boys walked down the stage and approached her. She even offered them high fives which they gladly received.

“Daebak! I didn’t know you can perform that well.”

The MC is looking for another performer. Right after Yong Hwa made high fives, he then raised her hand and the three was pointing at her for the MC to see.

“Oh! It’s a girl! Come on down!”

“Aniyo!” Shin Hye was shaking her hands, giving a notion that she won’t do it. The four started cheering for her name.

“Shin Hye! Shin Hye! Shin Hye!” The crowd followed and also cheered for her, as well as the MC.

Left with no choice, she shyly nodded and went to the stage.

“Shin Hye-ssi paiting!” they all cheered for her.

She whispered the DJ asking if he has the song she will be performing. She was hoping for a ‘no’ but then the DJ gave her the thumbs up sign.

“Call Me Maybe” by Carly Rae Jepsen

I threw a wish in the well,
Don't ask me, I'll never tell
I looked to you as it fell,
And now you're in my way

I'd trade my soul for a wish,
Pennies and dimes for a kiss
I wasn't looking for this,
But now you're in my way

Your stare was holdin',
Ripped jeans, skin was showin'
Hot night, wind was blowin'
Where you think you're going, baby?

Hey, I just met you,
And this is crazy,
But here's my number,
So call me, maybe?

It's hard to look right,
At you baby,
But here's my number,
So call me, maybe?

Hey, I just met you,
And this is crazy,
But here's my number,
So call me, maybe?

And all the other boys,
Try to chase me,
But here's my number,
So call me, maybe?

You took your time with the call,
I took no time with the fall
You gave me nothing at all,
But still, you're in my way

I beg, and borrow and steal
Have foresight and it's real
I didn't know I would feel it,
But it's in my way

Your stare was holdin',
Ripped jeans, skin was showin'
Hot night, wind was blowin'
Where you think you're going, baby?

Hey, I just met you,
And this is crazy,
But here's my number,
So call me, maybe?

It's hard to look right,
At you baby,
But here's my number,
So call me, maybe?

Hey, I just met you,
And this is crazy,
But here's my number,
So call me, maybe?

And all the other boys,
Try to chase me,
But here's my number,
So call me, maybe?

Before you came into my life
I missed you so bad
I missed you so bad
I missed you so, so bad

Before you came into my life
I missed you so bad
And you should know that
I missed you so, so bad

It's hard to look right,
At you baby,
But here's my number,
So call me, maybe?

Hey, I just met you,
And this is crazy,
But here's my number,
So call me, maybe?

And all the other boys,
Try to chase me,
But here's my number,
So call me, maybe?

Before you came into my life
I missed you so bad
I missed you so bad
I missed you so, so bad

Before you came into my life
I missed you so bad
And you should know that

So call me, maybe?

Yong Hwa was grinning as Shin Hye was performing in the stage. The three are giving him a ridiculous look which he didn’t notice because his attention was only pinned at Shin Hye.

“Tsk tsk. Only a drool is missing and he looks like an idiot. Kekeke.” Jung Shin said.

“Look at him! He’s gone out of his mind! But I can’t really blame him. Shin Hye’s really cute while singing.” Jong Hyun told the two.

“Wae? Do you like Shin Hye eonni?” Min Hyuk was confused at his hyung’s remark.

“Aniyo! She’s reserved for Yong Hwa already. Waeyo? Am I not right? Look at her! All the boys’ eyes are on him, almost the same look as Yong Hwa.” Jong Hyun defended himself.

Yong Hwa heard what Jong Hyun said. He looked at the crowd. He’s right. They are all paying attention to her. He couldn’t do anything but cross his arms and pout.

“Look who’s jelly! Kekeke.” The three synchronously .

“I AM NOT! It’s just cold that’s why I crossed my arms.” He shrugged.

“Whatever you say…” Jong Hyun said with a smirk.

***

“Thanks for today eonni! We didn’t know you can sing that well! I hope there’s a next time for this.” Min Hyuk said with his hands clasped to his chest.

“We shall do this again! Kekeke. Thank you Min Hyuk! Komawo Jung Shin! Komawo Jong Hyun! I really had fun tonight.”

“No problem, Shin Hye-ya… I mean Shin Hye-ssi.” Jong Hyun bit his lip as he realized his wrong remark.

“Kwaenchanha. You can address me informally from now on. I hope you could accept me as your friend after tonight.” Shin Hye gave them a warm smile.

“Of course you can be our chingu Shin Hye-ya… I mean eonni. Sorry for calling you snow queen earlier.”

“It’s ok. Friends?” She offered her hand but the three boys made a group hug with her. Yong Hwa broke their hugs because he was jealous that he wasn’t included.

“Enough. Let’s go home now Shin Hye-ya.”

“Ya! I’m not done yet saying my goodbyes! You’re so rude. Friends don’t act rudely to their friends.”

Shin Hye pinched his ear and Yong Hwa was aching. The three were laughing at the cuteness of the two.

“Look who’s the boss! Kekeke.” Jung Shin said while laughing.

“You’re such a cool eonni!” Min Hyuk exclaimed.

“Fine. We won’t bother you anymore Yong. We’ll go first. Be safe.” Jong Hyun patted Yong Hwa’s back who is massaging his hurt ear. Yong Hwa nodded.

“Bye. Take care.” Shin Hye said while waving her hands as the three walked opposite their direction.

***

Yong Hwa started the engine and drove his car while Shin Hye sits beside him. When she the radio, she then started to sing along.

“My Girl by The Temptations. So you also love oldies?” Yong Hwa asked her.

“Not necessarily. I just love this song because this is My Sassy Girl’s OST.”

“Ah, geurae? Still haven’t watched that movie.”

“I bet you wouldn’t. Kekeke. It’s not your type of movie.”

After her remark, they both laughed but suddenly the ambience turned into seriousness.

“May I ask you a question, Shin Hye-ya?”

“Go.”

“Of all movies, why My Sassy Girl? Why did you want your ‘guy’ to watch My Sassy Girl?”

She let out a deep sigh before she answered.

“It’s because of my brother. Apart from our father, no other guy became that close to me as my brother was.  I used to watch that movie with him every weekends. It was actually his favorite. He was much of the dreamy type. He believes that someone out there is meant for another at the right place, at the right time and that fate will be the one to lead them to each other when they least expect it… Everytime he tells that to me, I just laugh at him and for being hopeless romantic, partly because I couldn’t understand him. I mean he’s a guy and he just had these ridiculous beliefs about love.”

“Where is he now? I didn’t see him in your house.”

“He’s already dead fifteen years ago at a car accident with mom.”

“I’m sorry for your loss Shin Hye-ya. I didn’t know about that.”

“It’s ok. Those are all in the past. From then on, I had never watched that movie again. I will never watch that until I proved to myself that what he said were all true.”

“Was that also the reason why you are acting like that, you know, cold towards people around you?”

“Maybe. I just don’t believe in love and all those cloud9 feelings towards people after his death. No one told me about it anymore.”

“Oh, I see… Don’t you think… I’m as close to you as your brother now?”

She was startled by his question. He thought that it was a wrong question to ask.

“Forget my question.”

“Aniyo. It’s ok. Hmm… not quite. But we’re really close now. We’re friends right? You’re my first guy friend actually.”

“You’re fine now right? I mean… you’re coping. Then we can watch it together if you want.” Yong Hwa smiled genuinely at her. She smiled back.

“I’ll… think about it. Kekeke. It’s getting late. Drive safely.” She said as she stepped out of the car.

__________________________________________________________________________

Sorry for the late update. I know the last part is kinda boring with all those explanations from her past. I just want to unveil the story behind her attitude towards people so that things will be clearer to you… or not. Kekeke. Maybe I even made things blurry. Kekeke. Mianhae. I updated today because it is #BolmaeJungDay, right? HAPPY BIRTHDAY JUNG YONG HWA!

I hope you will still hang on to this story even though my updates got slower than before. College life is really a tough one and I have to sacrifice certain things, like my time in writing fics, to be able to survive. I think I will only be updating once a week.

Ok. I’m talking too much again. Kyaa~! Learning Korean language is really fun. Good thing mommy allowed to take this subject. :)) Have a nice day everyone. Until my next update! You don’t know, maybe I could update sooner if time permits. I REALLY HOPE SO. I missed all my chingus here!
