The Experiment
Description
Yang Romi was leading a typical teenage life, until her mother suddenly started acting strange. She seemed to believe that Romi was in danger, and soon Romi was involved in a strange experiment along with 12 other kids. Taken to live in a mansion somewhere in the middle of nowhere, Romi began experiencing weird phenomena - she found out that she had special abilities, and soon realized that the other kids weren't exactly human either.
Foreword
I came back home one evening just to find my mom in the living room, stuffing my things into a suitcase.
"Mom... what are you doing?" I asked. She spun around to look at me. There was a crazed look in her eyes. Her fingers were twitching and she kept glancing over at the door, as if expecting someone to barge in with a machine gun.
"We have to leave," she said, her voice shaking. "You have to get out of here, Romi, as soon as possible."
"What do you mean I have to..."
"No time! They could show up any moment! Don't take off your shoes, we have to leave immediately, before they..."
She was cut off by the doorbell. She let out a frightened squeak. My palms started sweating.
"Who's that, mom?" I asked, trying to keep calm. Seeing her in this state was really difficult to handle.
"N-no... not my only daughter... she's human... ROMI IS A NORMAL HUMAN GIRL! GO AWAY, GO AWAY!" she screamed, grabbed my elbow in one hand, the suitcase in the other, and headed for the back door.
"Mom!" my voice cracked.
She opened the back door and stood face-to-face with a man dressed in a dark peacock-green suit. His hair was greased back, and he was holding a clip board.
"And the last one," he told the army of men (all wearing the same ugly suit) behind him, and crossed something off his list. "Yang Romi? You'll be coming with us."
My mom yelled out in rage.
"LEAVE RIGHT AWAY! SHE'S HUMAN, DAMN IT, HUMAN!"
"So you must be Mrs. Yang... Our records show that she was born with your grandmother's gene, Mrs. Yang. And that means that in several days she will be just like all the others. Uncontrollable."
"What are they talking about..." I whispered. It felt like a dream. I couldn't understand what the hell was happening.
"You signed a contract with us, Mrs. Yang," the man added, smiling evilly. "We agreed to let her live as long as you let us ask her to participate in the experiment."
"The experiment fails with every single generation," my mom pointed out, close to tears. "It will fail again, and all your subjects will die. Including my daughter. I can't let that happen."
"The decision is not up to you anymore," the man concluded. He nodded and several men from behind him came into the house, pulling my mom away from me.
"NO!!! ROMI!! ROMI, DON'T BE SCARED, DEAR! IT WILL BE OK! I'LL COME BACK FOR YOU!"
"Leave her alone!" I ran toward my mom, but other guys held me back.
"ROMI! JUST DON'T BE SCARED! DON'T BE SCARED! STAY CALM! I'LL COME-"
The rest of her warning was cut off as a long needle was injected into my neck and I passed out.
