Chapter 13 Jongwoon’s happiness didn’t disappear the day after, or 2 days after, or even 4 days after. It was as if he had refound his spirit to fight. For 4 days he laughed and chattered as if he was not sick at all. Sadly enough, after those 4 days of happiness, reality returned. He had to undergo his 9th chemo session the day after. Kyuhyun had almost forgotten about those things. For 4 days straight, Jongwoon looked so healthy and happy, that Kyuhyun had actually forgot he was sick.   Unfortunately Kyuhyun, Donghae and Hyukjae all had to work. Jongwoon said it was not a problem. He would go to the hospital himself and Kyuhyun could pick him up after he was done working. There was not much else they could do other than agree on this. Jongwoon had to go to the hospital anyway, and Kyuhyun, Donghae and Hyukjae really couldn’t get the day off. It's not that they hadn't tried, but bosses could be such a pain. Kyuhyun had a morning shift, so he would be done the earliest to pick Jongwoon up.   As Kyuhyun woke up that morning he looked to his side. Jongwoon was peacefully sleeping next to him. Kyuhyun loved seeing Jongwoon like that. Peaceful. Knowing that tonight all of that would be gone made Kyuhyun sad. Kyuhyun touched Jongwoon’s cheek as he just couldn’t resist. Jongwoon moved for a little but didn’t wake up. He sure slept through everything.   Kyuhyun’s colleagues knew that Kyuhyun and Jongwoon were a couple. They also knew who Jongwoon was and what he had. Kyuhyun had explained everything to a few of them one day when he was feeling miserable because Jongwoon was so sick from the chemo. And you know how people work; tell one person something and soon everyone knows.   Kyuhyun worked extra hard that day. Maybe if he would finish all his chores quickly, and it wasn’t too busy, he could go home earlier. He didn’t want Jongwoon to wait for him at the hospital while feeling horrible after that stupid chemo.   Kyuhyun’s boss noticed that Kyuhyun worked much harder than usual. He was a good employee, yes; he could make the customers happy with just a small smile and the customers where the most important thing. Though, other than that he was a lazy worker. He never finished his work chores of the day on that same day, frustrating his boss to the max all the time.   Kyuhyun’s boss asked him what made him work this hard, and Kyuhyun explained that Jongwoon had chemo today and he had to pick him up after work. Kyuhyun could see his boss’ facial expression change from curiosity to worrisome. Kyuhyun had asked him earlier that week if he could get the day off, but his boss had refused. Now that he knew why Kyuhyun had asked for the day off, he felt guilty. He kept apologizing to Kyuhyun and told him he could go as soon as the busiest period of the day was over, he really couldn’t let him go earlier than that. Kyuhyun thanked him genuinely and continued working at high speed. His boss watched him and smiled, it seemed that Kyuhyun really cared for this boy.     ✭✭✭✭✭     Kyuhyun parked his car in front of the hospital and looked at his phone. Seven new messages. One was from Donghae, the other six were from Hyukjae. Donghae had texted that he could leave work one hour earlier, so he could help Kyuhyun with taking care of a sick Jongwoon. Kyuhyun smiled after reading this, Donghae was so compassionate.   Hyukjae’s text messages were a lot less cute. They went from ‘Are you done working yet?’ to ‘STOP IGNORING ME!’. Kyuhyun still smiled though, he understood how Hyukjae was feeling at this moment. He was probably worried to death. As Kyuhyun recalled doctor Han Geng saying, Hyukjae was really protective of Jongwoon, and even though Kyuhyun didn’t understand it at that time, he did now. He texted Hyukjae that he had just arrived at the hospital and put away his phone after sending.   Kyuhyun went straight to the room Jongwoon usually got his chemo treatment in. The door was still closed, so Kyuhyun took a seat in front of it, hoping that Jongwoon was actually in there. He didn’t dare to open the door to watch. After a few minutes the door opened and a person in a white coat came out.   “Ah Kyuhyun-ah. He will be done soon,” the person said, and Kyuhyun looked up. Doctor Han Geng smiled at him, nodded as some kind of greeting and walked away, probably having a busy schedule.   Kyuhyun sighed in relief, he had managed to make it in time. He stared at the door. Should he go in there to let Jongwoon know he was there so he shouldn’t worry about that? Kyuhyun knew Jongwoon wanted to go through that treatment without anyone beside him.   Kyuhyun eventually decided, after a full ten minutes of pondering, to push the door on ajar and to talk through the small opening.   “Jongwoon-ah?” Kyuhyun asked hesitantly. He did not want to make the other man mad. As soon as Kyuhyun said Jongwoon’s name, he already regretted it. He shouldn’t have done this. He knew Jongwoon didn’t like it when people were around. He would probably even kick the doctors and nurses out of the room if he could.   “Kyuhyun-ah,” Kyuhyun heard as Jongwoon’s happy but weak response.   “J-just... I... I just wanted to let you know I’m here, so you don’t have to worry about that anymore,” Kyuhyun said, biting his lower lip. There were a lot of different feelings going through him right now. There was only a door between him and Jongwoon and all Kyuhyun wanted to do was go inside and support his boyfriend. On the other hand, he knew Jongwoon wanted to be left alone when receiving treatment, so talking through a small opening in the door also went against Kyuhyun’s feelings. He was doing something against Jongwoon’s wishes. On a third hand, hearing Jongwoon’s weak voice broke Kyuhyun’s heart, but also made him happy and proud. It broke his heart because he wanted Jongwoon to be always happy, and strong, and healthy. But it made him happy because Jongwoon was still around, fighting everything. He was so strong. Kyuhyun couldn’t be prouder.   “Thanks...” Jongwoon replied, and Kyuhyun was about to close the door again. “Do you... Do you want to come in?”   Kyuhyun didn’t know what to say straight away. Did he want to come in? He wanted to support Jongwoon, but he was also scared. It felt a lot safer outside. That way, the whole disease thing was further away. While Kyuhyun’s mind was still considering both options, Kyuhyun’s body already decided and opened the door completely.   Being inside the room was less scary than Kyuhyun had imagined it to be. He actually never knew how chemo was being given, and he had never looked it up
