MONDAY

Mother, if you are reading my journal, I wrote you another apology. I found myself getting into a fight again. You must wonder why I would almost break a Lieutenant's arm in a pub on a lovely Monday. Well, mother, before you make jabs about my patience, you should know that I feel quite more sad than usual. I am sorry I never told you that I get lonely often. It would be best if you did not worry about me. But rest assured that I was not hurt. See, this fool made quite a scene in the pub. He told everyone that their country's soldiers would soon colonize Enas Niata. Such a bold statement to make for a man who cannot fit in his uniform. He then grabbed one of the waitresses near him and tried kissing the poor girl. This is where I got up into my seat and poked his eyes. But before a fight could break out again, Sungchan and Jihoon dragged me outside and escorted me back to my ship. 

They told my ears off. Sometimes they remind me of you, mother. Anyway, something more interesting happened on this day. Sungchan and Jihoon decided not to head back to the pub. They were afraid that I might go off somewhere again drunk. I pretended to rest while the two of them were deep in their slumber. I sneaked out again on my quarters with a bottle of whisky in my right hand and to my left, father's journal. I thought that the moon might need company. As I drowned my feelings with liquor, I found myself falling off the taffrail for the second time. 

Again, I thought it was the end for me, but I was more concerned about my father's journal being ruined. Someone pulled me out of the water again, just like before. It was the mermaid who saved me. I wrapped my arms around her neck as I clung for support. It's such a shame that I never learned how to swim. I got to look closely into her eyes this time.
