Always sending the cold away
Watercolors in the rainJung Wheein was four years old when she first saw Moon Byul-Yi.
The tiny cute girl was the youngest in the orphanage and the other kids were all-around 10.
The house was packaged with children. Too many sharing the same space and not enough of anything for them.
Wheein was just a baby when she was left for adoption and the girl didn't know a different life.
From time to time, the older boys bullied her just for the pleasure to see her cry.
So that tiny little thing started to bite her lips to hold the tears.
She didn't want to hear those mean laughter and see their annoying smiles.
The new girl arrived on a stormy night and didn't speak a word for days.
Wheein liked her cute hamster face and kept trying to get close without talking either.
Moonbyul, as the director of the orphanage wrongly called, was 7 but she looked older.
Not because of her height or physical traits. Instead, it was a sad and angry look constantly on her face.
The older kids tried to bully the new girl and she completely ignored them.
Then, some of them got bored and changed their target to Wheein.
The baby girl was about to eat a cookie given by the only nice employee in the place when the eldest boy stole it.
Shocked, the four-year-old burst into tears and shouted in the loudest level her lungs could reach.
Moonbyul came running and kicked the 11-year-old in the groin.
The mess was formed and all the other children took the chance to break things and shout.
When the director of the orphanage entered the room, he commanded silence and questioned one of the kids about that madness.
Afraid of the oldest boy, he lied putting all the blame on Moonbyul.
Although the director knew that the group of kids was not trustworthy, he didn't really care.
Grabbing the new girl's arm, he took her to his office and slapped her with strength 30 times.
The 7-year-old didn't react to the mistreatment. Not even to cry or beg the man to stop.
But then, she saw Wheein watching from the window and got worried that the tiny girl might fall.
The four-year-old had climbed some boxes outside the office while trying to find out what the director was doing to the new girl.
Desperate, Moonbyul murmured:
_____ I'm sorry, Sir. Won't do it again.
_____ You better not. Now get out of my face!
Running outside, the 7-year-old caught Wheein in the moment she lost balance.
Silently, the new girl dragged the baby girl in the opposite direction and said:
____ Be quiet and stay with me.
____ When?
____ Always.____ Moonbyul held that tiny hand and they got inside the house.
One of the ladies who helped taking care of the children ordered them to go to sleep.
There weren't many beds in the dormitories. So they had to lay beside two or three colleagues.
A nine-year-old tried to force Wheein and Moonbyul to sleep on the floor. But the new girl threw him dagger eyes and whispered in his ears:
____ I killed my parents. Wanna be next?
Almost peeing in his pants, the boy got off bed and joined his friends.
Moonbyul caressed Wheein's face and smiled.
____ Here. Choose the side you like.
____ Thank you, unnie.
The four-year-old struggled a bit to climb the bed and threw herself on the uncomfortable pillow.
Moonbyul tried to find a nice position beside the younger girl but the mattress was noisy and very hard too.
____ I feel so cold...____ Wheein cried in a very tiny voice.
The 7-year-old girl hugged her from behind and rubbed those fragile arms.
____ What's your name?
____ Wheeinie. Wheein...____ The baby girl corrected.
____ Is it better now, Wheenie?____ Moonbyul placed her leg over the child and kept using her body heat to warm her.
____ Yes, unnie.____ The child slowly fell asleep.

After spending 2 years in that place, Moonbyul and Wheein were
