a puzzle.
Part-time Devil
A little over a week had gone by since Baekhyun gave up his body to be used as a devil’s vessel. The last two days were especially rough on his body, Baekhyun noted. There were a few scratches on his arms and not to mention his horrible back pain. What have this devil been doing with my body, he cursed. The most frustrating part was not remembering a single thing. Without a choice, he dragged himself to the office despite his fatigue state.
“Good morning,” his secretary greeted.
Aera looked up, but decided to not waste her breath on instilling a fake front. Work had been slow for her this past week. Aside from their one meeting report, it was all that she had done since her promotion. Fortunately, she was still able to work on her Marketing projects, or else it would have been one hell of a long week.
Baekhyun tapped his knuckles on Aera’s desk, motioning his head towards his office, “You. My office, now.”
To her surprise, this was the first time that he had spoken to her since the previous incident. Aera followed his instruction and closed the door behind them.
“I need you to stay over time tonight,” he stated before even settling down.
She squinted her eyes slightly in utter confusion, why…she thought.
“Sir, I literally do not have any work that needs overtime. I am caught up with everything,” she defended.
“Then work ahead. I don’t care what you do, you need to stay here and report whatever you see me doing,” he continued.
This made her even more confused. Was he mocking her or was he trying to get back at her for being rude last time. Whatever it was, this was completely useless and a waste of time, even with pay.
“You want me to stay overtime to...observe you?” she scoffed in disbelief.
“Yes because I-“ Baekhyun coughed. “Because I-“
Why can’t I say it.
“I-“ he continued to choke whenever he wanted to mention the devil.
“Sir, are you alright?” Aera asked in concern, watching her boss struggling to say a single sentence.
A distressed Baekhyun made his way over to where she was, taking her harshly by the arm.
“I do not care what you do, your job is to follow me tonight and report every single detail. Do you understand?” he whispered dangerously.
A part of her wanted to fight back, but she couldn't help but notice a hint of fear in his eyes. It was as if he was threatened by something. Aera hated to admit her own curiosity as well.
That night, Baekhyun made sure to stay at the office so the devil would be awakened here. As soon as the sun set, the devil opened his eyes. He noted the familiar surrounding and took a few minutes to settle in before heading out for the night. A half asleep Aera caught his attention as he was heading out. His lips instantly curved into a small smile upon seeing her for the first time in a few days.
“Long time no see,” he whispered, trying to not wake her up.
He walked passed her but she managed to wake up just in time to catch up to him.
“Sir, wait!” she called as she stuffed her
