10.- Summer Day

Secret.

-Do you have everything babe?-Heejin called from her spot next to the doorstep.

Hyunjin looked around the almost empty room were a large yellow suitcase was placed on the floor; the semester had finally come to and end which meant they were free to leave the dorm behind for a couple of months. Their first summer as a couple had Heejin almost jumping around with her long list of things she wanted to do with Hyunjin as soon as she came back from Japan with Jiyoung, they had time to spent with their families and with each other without worrying about exams or classes and that simple idea made both of them feel excited. Leaving the dorm with Heejin as her girlfriend made Hyunjin realize how quick tables can turn even when you're done expecting, when they arrived to the little blank room that then seemed like a second home with their pictures on the walls and Heejin's stuffed toys on the couch Hyunjin was happy only because she was going to spent her time with Heejin and six months after they were there as a couple. Never in a million years Hyunjin could have made that guess, looking back things seemed quite funny for her, all the panic she had about Heejin finding out only to know that it was a shared fear and even when she wanted to tease Heejin about being oblivious she knew she was even just the same. If not worse.

-I bet you're the one leaving something, you've ask about my things like a hundred times-Hyunjin laughed placing the straps of her backpack over her shoulders as she leaned to take the suitcase on the floor.

-You were the one that decided to pack at midnight having the whole day free-Heejin remembered smiling when Hyunjin's lips reached her cheek before making their way to the hallway-I'm nervous about your mom, you know? What if she doesn't like me as your girlfriend?

Hyunjin turned around to meet her as a wide smile curled her lips, going home also meant they had to face each other's parents as a couple as well. Heejin was first since her parents were aboard and by the time they came back to town Heejin was going to be the one to be out of the country, despite she knew her mom walking into Hyunjin's house being her girlfriend was a whole different scenario for Heejin who was trying to keep herself together in front of the hazel eyes looking at her side as she drove them outside the campus, on the other hand Hyunjin was calmly holding the cold hand on her lap as she repeated over and over again soft words that in other scenario Heejin had to admit would had helped a lot. Hyunjin almost laughed out loud when she noticed how shaky Heejin was turning the closer they got to her house, she thought it was cute how she was so worried about her mom's green light to their relationship just because she knew how important family was for her and those gestures were the ones that made Hyunjin love her even more every day. Leaning to capture her pink soft lip between hers Hyunjin couldn't help but smile when she felt how Heejin's muscles seemed to melt under her fingertips as she traces the back of her neck softly after the car was parked in front of her door.

-You're going to be fine bunny, if not then you can stay in Japan I’m sure they have a great plan for Korean students-Hyunjin joked laughing when Heejin hit her shoulder to push her away with a smirk.

-I bet they have pretty girls there too-Heejin said looking at herself in the mirror only to hear Hyunjin's laugh die at her comment, making her laugh at her.-Let's go or your mom will think I’m having second thoughts.-Heejin rushed leaning to leave a quick peck on her girlfriend's lips before going out the car.

Standing on the doorway Heejin waited for the soccer player to reach her hand like that could make things less scary for her as they walked inside the warm little house, Heejin could already feel her stomach groaning when the smell of the food danced under her nose. homemade food turned to be Heejin’s favorite after feeding herself and Hyunjin with mostly greasy food during the semester, when Hyunjin's mom walked out of the kitchen drying her hands with a towel the med student swore her heart stopped beating for a second just to come back twice faster and her girlfriend seemed to noticed it since she squeezed her hand softly in a support gesture before walking forward to give her mom a big hug. She felt childish for being so nervous about meeting a woman she’s known for the last ten years but still she couldn't help the butterflies on her stomach making her feel both excited and scared, she looked down at her outfit and suddenly wearing jeans didn't seem like the best clothing decision she's ever made having a whole closet at home full with dresses almost way to expensive too use. Hyunjin chuckled when her eyes landed on Heejin's who was having a hard time trying to hide her nervous behavior to the older woman looking at her as she stood with an arm around her daughter’s back.

-Aren't you going to properly greet Jeon Heejin? - Hyunjin's mom said and Heejin's cheeks turned red as her bow for her almost completely.

-Thanks for inviting me over Mrs. Kim-Heejin almost whispered and the room was filled with a silence so deep Heejin thought she was about to drown before a chuckle ended it. Looking up her girlfriend was looking at her with a smile as her mom tried no to laugh.

-I'm just playing with you honey, come here- The woman said with a warm smile making Heejin feel like she could breathe again- Welcome to the family once again sweetheart.

When her mom wrap Heejin on a warm hug Hyunjin couldn't help but smile widely at the scene in front of her. Watching the scene Hyunjin realized once again that for her there was not space for a single doubt, Heejin was the one.

+++

The small house was filled with voices and music as Hyunjin tried her best not to ruin the macaroons her mom and her spent almost the whole night preparing, Heejin arrived the past night which meant the time to meet her parents was finally there in form of what Jiyoung herself called a simple Sunday’s barbeque. Fortunately Hyunjin had a comfort Heejin couldn’t enjoy the last time she came around and that was their friends going with them as well, the living room was probably a mess by then since Hyunjin’s mom left and nobody but the cloud of girls were home with her. Hyunjin had to admit she missed Heejin maybe a little more than what she should after the trip to Japan that took a turn in the middle making it a whole week longer, just the idea of finally having Heejin again in front of her made her stomach tickle and her lips curl into a wide smile she just couldn’t erase since she woke up that morning.

Despite the nervousness Hyunjin felt more excited about the day, waiting for Heejin to comeback of her little adventure for sure was the best decision they could have made because at end they were both aware that when they missed each other they would be together even if it was in front of a whole stadium and that was bringing some clam to Heejin as well who didn’t want Hyunjin to feel any pressure because of her parent’s standards. The noise on the living room became louder as the soccer player carefully placed the last cookie inside the pink box she prepared for Heejin’s mom, she had to fight the need for running to the door to check if the noise was because of the med student’s arrival but the fact that she’d done it at least three times already and it was only because of a play station game she decided to act like she wasn’t just ready to jump over Heejin the minute she walked inside the house.

-No welcoming kiss? I’m a little disappointed to be honest- Heejin’s raspy voice sounded from her back and Hyunjin almost drop the whole box to the floor feeling her heartbeat rise immediately as she turned around to meet the most beautiful smile on her girlfriend’s lips- Hi baby.

Hyunjin could only giggle at her feeling her chest fill with a bunch of things at once as she walked closer to the girl ready to meet her over halfway, realizing that Heejin’s was wearing a plain t-shirt tugged inside a jean short, her yellow light dress made her feel a little overdressed for the occasion but that didn’t matter the second her lips were trapped between the only ones she always wanted to kiss. Heejin smiled against the lips caressing hers when she felt how close Hyunjin was pulling her as she wrapped one arm around her waist only to leave one hand free to cup her jaw gently, all the chilled aura the taller was trying to show was completely forgotten as her lips left Heejin's mouth to attack her cheek with little pecks that only made her girl between her arms laugh in pure joy. Hyunjin used to about how she always leaned to get even more affection but after realizing she had no limits now suddenly it turned into one of her favorite habits.

-How is it that you're even prettier now?-Hyunjin said with a smile taking a step back to look at the girl.

-I missed you a lot-Heejin smiled back reaching Hyunjin's hand to rub her knuckles softly with her thumb- If it wasn't because of your mom is here I would had probably come here last night.

-You could have sneaked through the window-Hyunjin said and she wasn't kidding at all-How was your trip huh? Did Unnie behave?

-She got drunk like five times but it was fun to see-Heejin said laughing as her eyes landed on the box over the counter- Is that for me?

-That's your mom's-Hyunjin said leaning to kiss the pout that curled Heejin's lips at the negative- I'll make you more tomorrow, promise.

Heejin couldn't hide the mock on her gaze when she spotted her sister seating between an extremely quiet Sooyoung and a excited Jiwoo right under Jungeun's eyes, of course she wasn't going to let Sooyoung get away with her blush freely that day and that seemed to make Jinsoul a little too happy. Hyunjin almost felt disappointed after missing the exact moment Sooyoung saw the older walking through that door despite everybody knew she was head over hills for Jiwoo, at least it gave her something to think about other than Heejin's parents while they were on the car. It brought her some peace to know at least Jiyoung was already on their side and for what she's heard at least their dad wasn't acting as expected which Heejin thought it was good, she wanted to trust that if they didn't like them as a couple time would change their minds because if Hyunjin was sure of something it was that there weren't going to be any break up soon but still she had to repeat it to herself as they walked to the wide door of Heejin's house shyly carrying the gift and a backpack Heejin herself made her fill with clothes. Hyunjin jumped when she felt a hand softly hit her shoulder only to turn around and find Jiyoung's mocking smile looking at her.

-Clam down kid, you already won the hard part which it liking me. - Jiyoung said smiling at her as she filled a lock Hyunjin's hair behind her ear. - They already know you so don't try too hard.

-Thanks unnie-Hyunjin smiled softly, she's always had a good dynamic with Jiyoung but at moments like those she could actually feel how the older cared for her but times also gives Hyunjin knowledge and she just couldn't ignore the spark running on the elder’s eyes- What are you planning?

-Maybe you'll find out tomorrow-Jiyoung laughed before walking inside the house.

Hyunjin felt an arm wrap around her waist softly followed by the scent of the familiar perfume, Heejin took the backpack from her hands with a smile to place one of the straps over her shoulder.

-if my dad ask you to play something don't go too hard on him-Heejin warned smirking before leaning to peck Hyujin's lips for a second-I love you.

Hyujin's cheeks turned bright red making Heejin giggle at her, she loved to know that somehow Hyujin still wasn't over the butterflies every time she touched her despite it's being almost three months since their first kiss but it wasn't like she got any less excited because of the soccer player neither. Heejin's house was different from hers by a wide path but the years turned it into a second home for Hyunjin who was trying her best to look calm when she spotted the owners on the living room with the rest of the group, her eyes met with the only men on the room making her heart race as she felt Heejin's tender hand take hers almost by habit. There was nowhere to run then and Hyunjin felt a little sorry for mocking Heejin a few weeks ago for being nervous, being under the spotlight was not new for her but this was completely different. Hyunjin knew that it took a while for the Jeons to like her for real and the memory was making her head spin a little as the older women walked closer with her husband by the hand, the athlete saw how the women's eyes looked at her from the tip of her shoes to the top of her dark hair and suddenly the idea of wearing Heejin's latest gift hanging on her ears didn't seem like a good idea. The last thing she could ask for was to be thrown to a fake scene were Heejin's money was important for her.

-Thanks for inviting me over, I... hum, my mom and I made you cookies-Hyunjin said and she felt her face turn warmer than the rest of her body as she showed the pink box to the couple-She said it was going to be rude to come here with empty hands, please enjoy them.

-What? I didn't give anything to your mom-Heejin almost yelled and if Hyunjin wasn't so worried she would have laughed at the horror expression on her girlfriend's face.

-You're always welcome here Hyunjin but thanks for this-Heejin's mom took the box with a smile-Your mom is a great cook, we should go for a meal all together soon after all it's important to know who's going to take care of our Heejin.

-Don't let my wife's kindness distract you kid, You're still on thin ice-Heejin's dad deep voice sent a chill down her spine making her look up to meet the dark eyes, He was a little over protective with Heejin and for Hyunjin that was at least one thing they shared- You're on trial period.

-Alright that was enough-Heejin said pulling Hyunjin's hand so they could walk to the yard and leave her parents behind for a second.

To say she was less scared after that was a lie, if something she was even worse as the hours went by despite it was fun to be with their friends and helping on the kitchen the part where she had to avoid an extremely clingy Heejin trying to kiss her every few minutes wasn't that funny for Hyunjin. Heejin knew she was putting all her effort into making the day perfect for both of them as she watched her girlfriend let her dad win over and over again on the tennis court, she wasn't sure if her dad was aware of that fact but still was happy to see how much he enjoyed winning. That side of Hyunjin made her chest fills with a thousand of things at once, the care she putted into everything that involved her or them as a relationship mixed with the domestic feeling of the future, Heejin knew that if they weren't so young she would have probably putted a ring on her a while ago. Seating around a small table filled with snacks and beers the night came to them on the backyard and with no adults around Heejin found her comfortably seating between Hyunjin's legs as they heard their friends talk loudly.

-Did it go well?-Hyunjin asked softly making Heejin turn around to meet the hazel eyes-With your dad I mean.

-He's just playing babe, You were perfect-Heejin promised with a smile before leaning to kiss the pink lips inches away from hers, long fingers traced her jaw slowly before cupping her face like she needed another reason not to move other than the kiss itself. Heejin was glad about the lack of attention they were receiving from their friends when she felt the warm tongue trace her lower lip.

-Jeon Heejin!-Her mom's voice made Heejin jump from her spot on the floor to meet her mother's eyes as Hyunjin coughed with hers hands over her face, the first thing she took care for was not being caught on that kind of scenario and then there were they.- Kitchen, You two and I mean now Heejin.

The nagging wasn't going too awful for Heejin but watching her girlfriend state was a whole other story, Hyunjin seemed like a kicked puppy with her head down and her hands held together on her front as the older women talked over and over again about how important is to let those kind of acts to their privacy instead of doing it so shamelessly under her roof. Heejin could have sworn she saw Hyunjin's eyes fill with tears at some point of the speech and had to fight the urge to put a spot to her mother, Jiyoung was the one to put an end to the show once again being what she called "the devil's lawyer" promising she would keep an eye over them for the rest of the night. Which both Heejin and Hyunjin knew was a huge lie but it worked to their favor, Jiyoung would have done it if instead of Hyunjin her sister was with any other person but trying to avoid them for doing anything just because they were on their house was a dumb idea, after all they practically lived together. However Hyunjin decided to stay on the living room with the rest of their friends who seemed to be enjoying her fear way too much since they just couldn't stop laughing about how red she's turned.

Heejin listened to the deep silence the house was drown into at three A.M before having enough courage to walk down the stairs almost on her tiptoes, she heard soft music coming out of Jiyoung’s room and she thought that at least she could blame her sister if she needed somebody to cover her as she tried to take Hyunjin to her room in what she hoped was about to be a successful mission. Hyunjin groaned on the couch when she felt a hand place on her shoulder softly, she was about to complain when she heard Heejin’s giggle next to her making her open the blanket by pure habit waiting for Heejin to place herself between her arms like all the other nights and she wasn’t going to said it out loud just yet but Hyunjin really missed sleeping with her now they were staying on different places.

-Let’s go to my bed-Heejin whispered letting her fingers trace Hyunjin’s soft locks, she knew her girlfriend was about to deny her ask with a single glare-Jiyoung is covering us, I have to show you something.

-We’re going to get in trouble-Hyunjin whispered back closing her eyes as she felt the fingertips softly massage her scalp.

-We won’t and we can’t sleep together on the couch anyway-Heejin leaned to kiss her girlfriend’s temple- Just a minute, I’ll say you sleep walk if they found us-Hyujin smiled opening her eyes slowly to meet Heejin’s gaze over her.

Thankfully the garden’s lights were bright enough to fill the living room with a dim Shadow enough to make sure they didn’t trip with anybody as they tried to make their way to the room, leaving her phone behind wasn’t Heejin’s best idea when she needed to walk on the dark without making any kind of sound with a sleepy Hyujin following her carefully. Step by step the hallway seemed to become longer for them, her parent’s room was between hers and Jiyoung’s so they have to be extremely quiet because of her mother’s light sleep. Heejin almost fain when her body crashed against somebody else making her go back so fast that she almost falls, Hyujin’s arms held her still against her front despite the taller was having a hard time breathing as well. Heejin knew that wasn’t her parent’s room and hers was all the way to the end of the hallway that only left a possible answer. Jiyoung’s room, Heejin breathed again before she realized the shadow in front of her was frozen on the place, the poor lighting didn’t allowed her to see a face but it was enough to realize the person in front of her was shorter than her sister.

-What the ?-Heejin asked loud enough to make Hyujin shush her in panic just as the person in front of her.-Soo…. Sooyoung?-Heejin was about to scream when she realized finally who was standing in front of them, Hyunjin’s hand covered softly.

-Do you cheat on Jiwoo?-Hyunjin said roughly, holding Heejin against her front to keep her from doing something that could get them into more trouble.

-Listen it’s…. I didn’t, Jiyoung Unnie…-Sooyoung’s whispered trying to explain and only by the sound of her voice both her realized she was scared to death.

The door suddenly opened wide enough to fill the hallway with light letting the young couple watch Sooyoung’s wide eyes before turn around to meet Jiyoung as she carried a sleepy Jiwoo on her back. Heejin almost throw up when she noticed the bites on Sooyoung’s neck and the weak smile on her sister’s mouth, Hyunjin had to bite her tongue not to laugh at the scene as she covered her own mouth letting Heejin free just in case she wanted to push Jiyoung just a little. The older didn’t seem much bothered for being caught if something she looked a little proud of her work as Jiwoo’s face hided on the side of her neck.

-Did you… The three of you!?-Heejin screamed in whispers as she pointed between her sister and Sooyoung who was trying her best to cover the marks on her collarbones with her thin shirt. - What the did you to Jiwoo?

-She’s a little bit overwhelmed-Jiyoung giggled turn around a little to watch Jiwoo’s still blushed face-Right baby?

-Monogamy is for the weak-Jiwoo whispered back and this time Hyujin wasn’t capable of holding her laugh back making Heejin hit her shoulder a little too hard.

-You’re not alone neither-Jiyoung teased lifting one of her eyebrows making Heejin turn around to meet Hyujin’s smile.-I’ll shut up, if you shut up. Neither of us saw anything because we all were sleeping individually, treat?

Heejin nodded in silence before taking Hyunjin’s hand to reach their destiny now walking even faster, if her parents didn’t wake up with Jiyoung’s little play then she was sure there was no way they would wake up because of them at the end of the hallway. Hyujin couldn’t hold her laugh when the door closed on their backs as she turned around to meet Heejin’s horror face, when Jiyoung said she was planning something not in a million years she thought it was what they just found on the hallway. Hyujin took a seat on the edge of the bed almost pulling Heejin to her lap with a smile as one of her hands traced the dark locks and the free one held the smaller one over Heejin’s lap.

-That was… interesting-Hyujin giggled making Heejin smile at her.

-Stop laughing about it, I can’t stop thinking about…-Hyunjin laughed even harder when the girl on her lap shook in disgust.

-What did you want to show me, huh?-Hyunjin’s voice turned softer as her hand caressed Heejin’s back in slow circles.

Heejin’s face seemed to light up when she remembered the reason why they walked up stairs on the first place; she jumped from Hyujin’s lap to walk around her room to the desk next to the window. Hyujin’s lips curled into a smile when she noticed the cartoons on her girlfriend’s pajama as the girl looked for something inside one of the drawers, Heejin’s excitement was enough to make her look forward for anything she was about to give her. Heejin turned around with a small blue box on her hands before walking to place herself once again over Hyunjin’s lap with a smile.

-Open it; I hope you like it-Heejin said giving the box to her girlfriend.

Hyujin’s thin fingers opened the box slowly to let her eyes land on a thin silver chain that ended on a golden ring with a silver tiny heart on it, Heejin noticed how the girl’s eyes seemed to light up at the gift and knew her choice was the right one. Hyujin used to decline that kind of gifts since it was starting to get a little too often but still that wasn’t stopping Heejin from getting her expensive things, she was pretty sure Jiyoung helped with the choice so she was glad that somehow the members of her family were aware that she wasn’t the one asking for it. Heejin thought it was one of the best destiny to her money, after all she had too much for a person who doesn’t pay a rent or had any other wastes but food and some cloths that wasn’t as expensive as people thought.

-Before you say anything, look-Heejin said with a smile taking an identical chain from under her shirt, Hyujin’s smile widen.-When I was in japan I heard a story about a couple just like us, They grew together but only became a couple just when they got a little older than us-Heejin’s thumb traced the delicate heart on the edge of her chain, Hyujin’s eyes were focused on the girl’s face as the deep voice sounded on the room-Years after the girl had to leave Japan and he just couldn’t hold her back any longer, he choose her happiness over his owns when he decided to let her free even when his heart was broken-Hyujin’s fingers pushed a lock behind Heejin’s ear so she could freely kiss her temple- Years after the girl came back to their town, and the boy who then was a men still kept the chain the girl gave her years behind, both of them kept it despite they were over. They kept a piece of each other even when there was a sea between them-Heejin’s eyebrows furrowed as she tried to make her point shorter feeling Hyujin’s attention over her.- I wanted to give you this piece of me, because I’ll always keep a piece of you on me.

Hyujin felt her eyes filled with tears at the sound of those words, cupping Heejin’s face carefully she pulled the girl to her lips. Heejin felt the salty taste over her girlfriend’s lips as she kissed her slowly, she understood the overwhelming emotion with her heart beating like it was about to explode. Happiness crashed over the warming feeling that made both of them feel safe and loved as their lips caressed each other in an almost desperate kiss. Hyujin already knew that that chain meant a promise to a forever. A promise to be kept no matter how many time passed. Hyunjin smiled weakly as what used to be her best and last secret left as a whisper.

I love you.

THE END.
