Wendy's POV

--

Seungwan remembers her first kiss with Seulgi. She had been working up the courage to tell the taller girl for several months how she felt and she finally had the girl alone. The eldest was sleeping while the two devils were off exploring. She snuggled closer to Seulgi as the wind blew. She felt herself closing her eyes while taking in the other girl’s scent and then it happens. It was brief, but she couldn’t believe what she had done and quickly ran back into the cabin before the other girl could say anything. A few minutes later, she heard the door open and quickly pulled the covers up and pretended to sleep. She held her breath as she heard footsteps stop near her. She couldn’t face Seulgi, at least not yet. Soon the footsteps walked away and there was darkness.

The following morning, the taller girl kept stealing glances at her, but didn’t approach her. Seungwan wasn’t sure what to do. She didn’t know how the girl felt and didn’t want to lose their friendship over this, so she put on a brave face and tried to make conversation with the older girl and pretended like the kiss didn’t happen. Soon they returned to school and everything returned to normal, at least as normal as things could be between two friends that kissed.

--

Seungwan thought she would be able to keep her feelings under control until a few weeks later when they ended up at a party together. Sooyoung was busy grinding up against some boy named Sungjae while Seulgi was spinning and jumping. Seungwan couldn’t help but smile when she grabbed the girl and told her how happy she was that she decided to come out. A few songs and drinks later, Seungwan began feeling warm. She had her arms wrapped around the taller girl as the two swayed to the music. She her lips as Seulgi leaned into her. She felt a spike of courage as she quickly pulled the girl with her and walked to the restroom.

When the door closed behind them, Seungwan pushed Seulgi up against the wall and captured the taller girl’s lips. She wanted to feel every inch of the girl and bit the girl’s lip when the latter moaned into . A few minutes later, there was banging on the door and Seungwan reluctantly pulled away to open the door as she heard Seulgi whine. She ignored the look of disgust written on the intruder’s face and grabbed Seulgi’s hand and walked away. The two found Sooyoung getting comfortable in Sungjae’s arms and decided it was time to go home.

She fell asleep that night with a smile plastered on her face.

--

Seungwan sighed. A few more weeks had passed, but neither brought up what happened that night at the party. Seungwan felt her heart break thinking that maybe Seulgi was too drunk that night to remember. She wasn’t sure if she should bring it up again. Her thoughts were interrupted when she received a text from her sister.

From Sis: Hey, you need to come home.

Seungwan furrowed her eyebrows, ‘That’s odd’ and picked up her phone to call her sister back.

“Hello?”

“Hey, what do you mean I have to come home?”

There was silence on the other line before her sister spoke again, “Mom’s been sick.”

Seungwan felt go dry, “Sick?”

“She’s been ill for awhile and didn’t want us to tell you thinking it would affect your studies. I couldn’t keep it a secret any longer and with your graduation in two weeks, I think you should come back and spend some time with her.”

Seungwan’s heart dropped, but quickly agreed before hanging up.

‘How was she going to tell Seulgi?’

--

Seungwan was sitting at their regular table with Seulgi when she told the girl she was leaving.

“I decided I’m going back to Canada after graduation.”

She looked up hoping the girl would say something, but when she didn’t, she continued, “I got offered a job as a music producer and I’ve been missing home.”

She didn’t know why she was lying to the girl, but she was hoping the girl would tell her to stay or would come with her. Instead she just nodded and stayed mum.

--

Graduation finally rolled around and Seungwan felt relieved. She had finally finished packing everything last night and had her plane ticket ready. She scanned the crowd of families and her eyes landed on Seulgi. The taller girl walked over and Seungwan fell in love all over again. She looked beautiful in her dress and gown. Seungwan was busy getting everything ready that she hadn't had a chance to talk to the girl much since she told her she was leaving.

The two exchanged pleasantries and stood in silence before Seungwan asked Seulgi to send her off at the airport. She hoped to see the girl one last time before she left. The girl agreed and Seungwan felt her heart swell.

--

The following morning, Seungwan was waiting for Seulgi at the airport, but didn’t see the girl. She looked at her watch anxiously when she heard the intercom say, “Flight K4525 to Canada will now begin boarding.”

‘Where is she?’ Seungwan bit her lip as her phone beeped.

From Seul: Sorry Wannie. I’m not feeling too well. Have a safe trip!

Seungwan felt her stomach drop. She felt the tears b her eyes, but blinked them away. She sent the girl a text saying it was okay before gathering her luggage and walking towards the gate.

--

When Seungwan arrived in Canada, she checked her phone, but frowned when there wasn’t another text from Seulgi.

She walked out the airport to find her sister waiting for her. She was happy to be back in Canada, but as she went to sleep that night, she couldn’t help but feel disappointed thinking that Seulgi probably didn’t feel the same as her.

--

Seungwan had only been home for two months when her mom passed away. It had also been two months since she heard from Seulgi. She began shutting everyone out. She couldn't bring herself to text Seulgi and buried herself with work in her studio instead. She knew why her mom didn’t tell her sooner, but she couldn’t help feeling angry and regretful. Regretful that she didn’t have more time with her mom and angry that she was now alone.

--

“Hey, I’m looking for Wendy?”

Seungwan’s ears perked up at the broken English and turned around to see a tall man looking at her before she spoke up, “You’re looking at her, can I help you?”

“I’m Chanyeol. I’m supposed to be recording some music today?”

Seungwan nodded as she replied in Korean, “Oh yes. I reviewed the song. Make yourself at home as I pull it up.”

The man widened his eyes, “You speak Korean?? Oh thank God. I was google translating what to say when I got here.”

Seungwan laughed, “Yeah, you can call me Seungwan if you want.”

Chanyeol nodded as he sat down and the two went over the song.

--

Seungwan was hesitant when Chanyeol asked her to dinner, but felt it was impolite to say no. One dinner soon turned into two and many more after. A month later, Chanyeol asked her out. He knew all about the Seulgi and listened to Seungwan when she talked about the other girl. Chanyeol promised he wouldn’t hurt her and that he would help her forget. Seungwan eventually agreed.

It took her months to open herself up to Chanyeol. When the rapper returned back to Korea, he promised to visit as often as he could. When he visited, he asked her every time to come back to Korea with him, but every time she said no. She wasn’t ready.

Then one day she met Sunmi who came to Canada to record a new song. She had been talking about an upcoming photoshoot when she mentioned a familiar name.

“Wait who?”

“Who what?” the older girl looked at her confused

“The photographer”

“Oh Kang Seulgi. She’s really famous in Korea. Everyone wants her. My manager got me in for a photoshoot next year.”

Seungwan didn’t hear the rest of the conversation. Later the night, she felt herself looking up all of Seulgi’s work. Seungwan looked in awe. The girl was always talented and she remembered the photos Seulgi used to take of her and told her how beautiful she looked even when she didn’t feel the same way. Her heart ached as she remembered the past and realized how much she missed hanging out with the other girl. Maybe it was time to go back.

--

A month later Sunmi was facetiming her about a new album she was working on and asked Seungwan to come produce it.

Seungwan hesitated before answering “Okay”

Sunmi looked at her surprised. She and Chanyeol had been trying to convince her to come to Korea for a long time, but the girl never budged.

“Really?!”

Seungwan nodded.

Chanyeol was estatic when he heard the news and started droning on about all the places he wanted to take her. Seungwan smiled but felt her heart falter, ‘am I really ready?’

--

When she arrived in Seoul, Chanyeol was waiting to pick her up. The two hugged as he took her luggage and put it in the trunk. They were driving to his apartment when they passed a familiar café. It had been five years, but the café still looked the same. She reminisced about college and how Seulgi would knock on her door asking to go get ramen at 3 in the morning. She fell asleep later that night wondering if she would see the girl again.

--

Seungwan had been in Korea for about a month and was finally getting situated at her new studio. She was working on a new track when Sunmi texted her.

From Sunmi: Hey, got a party tonight at XXX. Be there, bring Chanyeol!

She smiled as she replied ‘okay.’ She put her phone down and continued working on her music until it was time to go to the party.

--

She was talking to Sunmi’s manager when she noticed a familiar girl walking towards the bar. The girl had bangs now and was wearing makeup, but Seungwan knew that face anywhere.

“Seulgi?” She called out and watched as the other girl stop and turn around. She held her breath. They made eye contact and Seungwan found her feet moving towards the girl. When they were standing in front of each other, Seungwan spoke up first, “What are you doing here?”

Before the taller girl could reply, Sunmi interrupted the two. ‘Damn it’

She watched the other girl furrow her eyebrows when Sunmi called her Wendy and Seungwan had to control herself from reaching up and squishing the other girl’s face. She also noticed her face fall when Sunmi mentioned that Chanyeol was looking for her. She simply nodded before turning to Seulgi and telling her to meet at their usual spot tomorrow. She walked away with Sunmi as she felt the butterflies in her stomach coming back.

She soon felt arms wrap around her waist. She look up to see Chanyeol smiling at her. He kissed her cheek and Seungwan felt her mind drifting back to Seulgi. She wondered if the other girl would show up tomorrow.

--

She walked into the café and saw Seulgi sitting at their usual table with two drinks. She smiled as she walked over and picked up the drink. She was talking about college when the taller girl cut her off. She was shocked by Seulgi’s outburst. She didn’t know what to say and the girl got up to leave. Seungwan reached out to grab Seulgi’s arm and telling the girl not to go.

She wanted to tell the girl the real reason why she left. She wanted to tell the girl that she didn’t text because she was afraid that Seulgi didn’t like her anymore. She wanted to hold Seulgi close and kiss her again, but she couldn’t bring herself to do any of that. Instead, the only words that came out was that she missed her and wanted to start over. She clenched her teeth as she waited for Seulgi’s response and felt relief when she other girl agreed.

--

Seungwan spent the next month trying to make it up to Seulgi. She knew that Chanyeol disapproved, but he let her do it anyways. She was happy when Seulgi invited her over to watch a movie. She felt her eyelids getting heavy and soon she was leaning on Seulgi’s shoulder. She expected the other girl to push her head off, but instead she brushed her hair aside and whispered, “Wannie, you know I missed you right? I hope you never leave again.” Seungwan pretended she didn’t hear the comment, but felt her heart beat louder and hoped Seulgi didn’t hear it.

--

She was sitting on Seulgi and Irene’s couch waiting for Seulgi to get home when she got a text from Chanyeol.

From Chanyeol: Let me know how everything goes. I’ll wait for you.

Seungwan sighed. Seulgi had been avoiding her and she didn’t know why. She didn’t want to lose the girl twice and Chanyeol encouraged her to confront the girl. She asked Irene if she could come over, afraid that Seulgi would say no and the older girl said okay. After work, she went to the supermarket and picked up groceries.

She was flipping through a magazine Seulgi shot for when she heard the door open. The girl brushed off her question about what she had done wrong and Seungwan decided to let it go.

--

Half an hour later, the two were cooking together in the kitchen when she watched Seulgi picked up a bowl of water and was about to dump some into the pan with oil. She yelled at Seulgi to put it down and to back away. She felt her own ears redden when Seulgi pouted at her.

The two talked and laughed through dinner. She didn’t realize how much she missed this. She was always comfortable around the other girl and she knew how to make her smile. The two then bickered about who would do the dishes before Seulgi grabbed everything and headed to the kitchen. She was washing the plates when Seungwan approached her from behind. The taller girl turned off the water and wiped her hands before turning around. She shrieked when she saw Sungwan and stumbled backwards. Seungwan quickly reached out to grab Seulgi before she landed on the floor.

She blushed when she realized how close the two were standing. She didn’t feel like letting go and noticed as Seulgi’s face got closer to her own. She closed her eyes, but they were interrupted by her phone ringing.

Seungwan groaned, ‘C’monnn’

She reluctantly pulled away to pick up her phone and her heart dropped when she saw Chanyeol’s name on it. She told her boyfriend that she would be back soon and picked up her things to leave. On the drive home, she couldn’t believe that she had almost kissed Seulgi, or rather Seulgi had almost kissed her. When she got home, she told Chanyeol that everything went well and quickly went to the bathroom to shower.

Later that night Seungwan rolled over and felt Chanyeol’s arm move to hug her waist. She looked at the man and couldn’t help feeling guilty.

‘What am I doing here?’
