Try Again Tomorrow
Shooting Stars“Hey, angel. Guardian. Whatever you are.”
Jisoo frowns.
“Hey? Hello? I know you’re there. I know I wasn’t drunk. Show yourself.”
Nothing.
Jisoo turns and tosses in bed. Earlier that day, Lisa told her of a jarring story. It breaks her heart to know that Lisa feels that way considering all she’s been through with her Guardian.
“Guardian.” Jisoo is whimpering now, desperate for someone to talk to. “Don’t make me jump out of the window.”
Still nothing, the guardian does not materialize. Instead, a flash of light streaks into Jisoo’s room for a brief second.
“Oh, okay. Is that you? If you’re listening, I have a bone to pick with you.”
The faint rustling of her curtains and yet another flare of light notifies Jisoo affirmatively.
She inhales and balls her fists. “All this talk about supernatural beings but in the end humans do everything. I mean,” Jisoo rolls over onto her stomach. “A could save lives and even revive people on occasion; the military and the police protect people from threats fatal to anybody; artists, they make people happy and help people forget problems for a while; therapists, take care of people’s mental health. I could go on, but do you understand, guardian? What do I have you here for if I can take care of myself? If I have other humans to do it?”
Jisoo buries her face in her pillow. This is so frustrating. What do I get believing in you?
