Grain of Salt
Shooting Stars“Lisa, I’m telling you the truth! She was this lithe figure that appeared by the porch after I fell on the ground laughing.”
“Maybe you’re having a concussion, Jisoo.” Lisa looks at Jisoo and reaches for her head. “Does anything hurt? Are you feeling okay?”
Jisoo frowns. “I don’t have a concussion, and it wasn’t a drunken hallucination. Lisa, my guardian was there. I remember traipsing barefoot onto the garden and then screaming at the sky, telling it what I was wishing for. Next minute I’m lying on the grass and before I close my eyes, I catch a glimpse of this shooting star. A shooting star, Lisa!”
Lisa listens intently at Jisoo and tries to piece together what Jisoo was trying to say. “You think your guardian appeared when you made that wish and a shooting star coincidentally passed by?”
“Do you think my guardian angel is the shooting star?” Jisoo’s eyes widen at the thought.
“I- I honestly don’t know, could be. But Jisoo, you’ve had one too many bottles last night, how do we even know there was any reality to this? Come on, you’re smart. You read a lot, you know things need proof. Let’s maybe take this with a grain of salt?”
Jisoo purses her lips and nods. She knows she woke up this morning in her bed, in the clothes she wore from the night before, and the beer bottles lay on the porch, untouched. Nothing else seemed to be altered by any supernatural being at all. “Alright, okay. Maybe I’m overreacting and was just overwhelmed from all this talk about guardians and wishes.”
Lisa offers a consoling smile. “Hey, that’s alright. If it helps you get through bad days and gives you hope for good days, who am I to stop you? I’m just saying that you should be careful, still. Who knows what could have happened to your clumsy last night?”

Jennie looks at her palms, now back to their fully lucent state. How did that happen? Did Jisoo’s wish really work on that shooting star?
