R/PRODUCE99 + Reddit Tutorial
« Produce 99 » « Cancelled »Hi guys! So it seems a lot of you are willing to try the Reddit idea so I've set it up! Here is the official Produce 99 subreddit! I'm approaching this as an experiment: if this works then that's brilliant! We have just all of us invented a whole new way of interacting with applyfics! If it doesn't then at least we'll have tried and we can fall back on the tried and true method of inserting fake social media chapters.
If you already know reddit well you can head on over and read the rules and introduce yourself in the introduction thread! If you're not familiar with Reddit then stick around of a little crash course (no fancy layout for this since it's easier to post large images this way). Leggo!
First of all you're gonna want to sign up for reddit, which is pretty straight forward. Next up you're gonna want to roll up to the Produce 99 reddit. When you first see it you're probably going to be in the New Reddit and you will see this:
Not only is the New Reddit not very pretty, but it also takes away any of the cool features that the Produce page has, like a collapsable list of the trainees that will appear once the story starts, so please love yourself and head on over to the old reddit. (A second way of doing it, if you dismissed the banner, is by going to your settings)
Isn't this much better?:
Here we have the front page in its full glory.I've labelled everything that might be important to you.
When I talk about a flair, for example, I mean the little title that appears after your username (you're gonna want to set that to your AFF username and the character you submitted like this: username (character name).
When you get replies to your posts or comments the little messages envelope will lights up.
If you want to save a post or comment for later you can click on save and then if you click on your username you can find the saved posts tabs and see what you've saved.
Any subreddits* you're subscribed to will appear in the black bar on top (reddit will give you a bunch fo basic subs which is why mine is so full hahaha, I haven't unsubbed to the useless ones).
Stickied pots are the two that always stay on top of the page, it's where the episode discussions and official announcements go.
Lastly, your sorting options are there to sort what you see, though I don't think we'll be active enough to warrant searching on New, you probably won't be missing anything if you stay on Hot.
* Each individual community like Produce 99 is called a subreddit. Reddit is the webite itself, and subreddits are each individual page. Sometimes it's just referred to as r/titleofsubreddit, for example: r/produce99.
For opening reddit posts: clicking on the title of a post will always bring you to its source. This means that if the post is a link, for ex. to a youtube video or an article or an image, clicking the title will bring you to the video or article. To get to the actual comments of the posts you have to click on comment(s). If the post is a text post on reddit itself then clicking the title will just get you to the discussion, those are labelled self.produce99.
The little arrows next to the icon are how many votes that post (or comment!) has. Upvotes and downvotes are there so you can show you either agree or strongly disagree with a post or comment. They don't matter much for our sake but it can be a nice gauge of how popular your opinion is. Too many downvotes and the comment will become hidden though, so try to avoid downvotes unless something doesn't adhere to the topic or breaks the rules!
(Ignore the test link, it'll be removed soon. Or don't, it's excellent content.)
Comment structure for reddit is a little peculiar, those are the things that will be the most useful for you. That formatting will give you this comment:
Here you can find basic reddit formatting explained better than I ever could. I can also recommend other subreddits such as r/kpop as a convenient place to find all your kpop news in one spot. If you still have any questions just drop a line here or on reddit, I'll be dropping some things here and there before we start to tease you all, including who the trainers will be (the MC is already up!) and as long as you follow the rules you guys can post and discuss stuff too!
(Wow I really hope MNET never actually launches a Produce99 hahaha)
