Why do you care?
You love once“Jimin you don’t have to do this…You shouldn’t-…”
“You’re the last person I need advice from on what I should be doing or not, Jeon Jungkook. I haven’t come across a second person in the world, who’s as talented in making bad decisions as you are.” Jimin picked up his pace, pulling Jungkook by the wrist again to match his speed.
“You don’t have to keep pulling me, I'm not a kid!” Jungkook jerked his hand away, scowling at Jimin, but picked up his own pace.
“Jimin, seriously, everything was fine. Why are you trying to spoil it?”
“What is it to you? Your problem is solved. The reason why you left, that’s not happening. I’m the one breaking the marriage, not Taehyung. It’s not going to be his fault and no one can blame him. You get your Taehyung, so why are you still whining? Seriously, Jungkook, if someone ever rightfully deserved the title of drama queen, it is indeed you! And don’t lecture me, coz I know what I want, I’ve made up my mind. I have my priorities clear and I think very clearly.” Jimin threw a sarcastic smile at Jungkook. “Unlike you."
Jungkook stopped once more and grabbed Jimin’s arm, stopping him. Jimin tried to jerk away but Jungkook had a tight grip. Jungkook edged closer to him till they were just a few inches away. He lowered his voice and said, “Jimin, what are you going to tell your family? How are you going to justify this?”
Jimin’s eyelids flickered and a brief trail of hesitation passed through his features before the poker face expression returned.
“That’s my problem. What’s it to you?”
Jungkook blinked. “So you don’t know what you’re going to tell them, right?”
Jimin rolled his eyes. “Again, why do you give a ?”
“And your brother?” Jungkook asked and Jimin looked like he had been punched in the face. He drew in a few sharp breaths.
“I-…I will-…I…Namjoon Hyung-…I... Aargh I don’t know, just shut up Jungkook! Why do you care? It’s my problem.”
“Jimin, you realize this marriage stuff is not a joke right? I don’t know too much about you, but as far as I’ve gathered, your family moves in respectable and probably high profile society. I don’t know exactly what-…”
“Yes, my dad is a Co-owner of ‘Verve’.” Jimin said dismissively. “What’s your point?”
Jungkook’s head jerked back and his eyes widened at the mention of one of the most popular entertainment channels of the day. “Seriously?” He asked, his voice going shrill.
“Yeah, so what? It’s not like you’re poor yourself. I know everything about you, I’ve heard all of it from Taehyung. Don’t act like you’re so amazed by the riches.”
“That’s totally beside the point Jimin. What I’m saying is, do you understand how embarrassing it would be for them? Their son’s marriage getting broken off-…”
“It was embarrassing enough for them to admit to the world that their son is gay. My Namjoon hyung is the only one who stood by me. Yeah yeah, don’t give me that scandalized look- I know, who cares about this orthodox stuff in today’s date right? Well, my family does.” Jimin shrugged.
“Exactly. And that is why you should not do this.” Jungkook raised his eyebrows. “Why did you have to go after me when I had left? I shouldn’t have agreed to drive back here.”
“But you did, didn’t you? So don’t start that honorable angel act again – I ing hate -” Jimin made a face at Jungkook, showing his teeth.
He looked around to see if there was anyone around and inched closer to Jungkook lowering his voice. “What happens to me or my family is my problem. You don’t have to think about it. And don’t try to act like you care about me – the angelic Jeon Jungkook.”
“But I do. You’re doing this for Taehyung, I know. But-…” Jungkook paused for a second before continuing. “But I’m the one you’re helping the most – intentionally or not – you are.”
Jimin rolled his eyes, but Jungkook continued, “So of course I have to care about you. I misjudged you. I’m sorry for that – and I do care about what happens to you.”
Jimin opened his mouth to speak but no words came out. The peeved look in them was gone and he looked like a child, caught off guard by an attack. His cheeks had gone pink and his eyebrows narrowed, nostrils flaring, as he opened and closed his mouth several times, trying to give a reply, but not managing to. He cleared his throat finally and avoided Jungkook’s eyes, talking to his shirt instead, “Yeah - …whatever.”
“I behaved like a jerk with you. Because I was insecure – I’m sorry.”
Jimin’s cheeks were becoming a deeper shade of pink by the minute. He stepped back abruptly, putting some distance between himself and Jungkook. “Y-yeah whatever. I don’t care – Don’t think I’ll start liking you coz of this. Don’t try to act like we’re friends or something.” He said, turning away. His voice projected anger, but from the side, Jungkook saw that he seemed almost to be pouting. “I don’t care about you. I’m doing this for Taehyung.”
Jungkook couldn’t hold back a small smile. He sighed and moved to stand in front of Jimin.
“Fine,” Jungkook said, shrugging. “I’ve no interest in being your friend either. But just think about what you’re doing before jumping into the fire!”
“See, that’s the problem with you! You think too much. You think and you think – and you try to do the noblest thing - but then you end up making things even more complicated than they were. That’s the problem with you. You think too much and you try to be too noble.”
“Who’s being noble now?”
“I did not bring you here to bicker with you!” Jimin scrunched up his nose, making a face at Jungkook again. “Just shut your intellectual mouth and come with me!” Jimin grabbed Jungkook’s arm again and turned around, starting to walk in the direction of the stairs.
“Jimin ah!” A loud urgent voice made Jimin stop in his tracks. He turned around abruptly, bumping into Jungkook and they both pushed each other off, before looking at the person who had called out.
“Suga hyung?” Jimin stared at Yoongi who was walking towards them with a fast pace, dragging Jin along by the elbow. Jin was panting and looked like he was about to collapse.
“Jimin ah, wait.” Yoongi let go of Jin’s arm, the latter exhaling in relief and covered the rest of the distance between them in a run.
“Suga Hyung, what-…”
“What are you doing? Please don’t do anything stupid…tell me what-…” Yoongi turned his eyes to Jungkook and fixed him with an exasperated expression. “Jungkook ah, what are you both doing?”
“Hyung-…” Jungkook started to say.
“Shut up!” Jimin snapped at him. He turned to Yoongi with a frantic smile. “Hyung, it’s nothing. I - Um – I…went on a drive and my…umm…car broke down! So um, yeah…That’s what happened and – umm…Oh and I found Jungkook! So, um, I asked him to give me a ride back. And-…” Jimin’s nostrils flared again as he tried to make up the rest of the lie while Yoongi waited patiently.
Jin walked up to them finally, crossing his arms in front of his chest and looking at Jungkook with a weird face that was a mix of anger, worry and confusion.
“-And we were just going to grab something to eat because we’re tired and hungry.” Jimin finished his explanation.
Yoongi observed Jimin with an expressionless face. There was an awkward silence for few moments before Jin spoke.
“And what the hell is wrong with you, you punk?” Jin moved to Jungkook’s side and gave his chest a nudge. “How can you just leave randomly without telling us anything?”
“I’m sorry Hyung.” Jungkook said, looking down.
“Jimin ah, even a child would see straight through your lie. Jungkook ah, tell me the truth.”
“There’s nothing to tell!” Jimin’s voice was unnecessarily loud as he looked at Jungkook anxiously.
“He’s going to
