You love once[Yoongi]
Yoongi sat up, rubbing his face and started to feel the first wave of an intense head ache settle in.
“Aaaaargh…” He cradled his head in his hands. “What idiot handed me the first drink last night? I’m going to seek him out and punch him very very hard…aaargh!”
“You had it yourself and you asked for it as well, so stop nagging. Or maybe punch yourself.” Jin threw a towel at Yoongi’s back. Yoongi turned back and saw Jin sitting on the bed, already changed out of his pajamas.
Jin hadn’t touched more than one cocktail last night, with the explanation that he couldn’t be chugging barrels himself after lecturing Jungkook to stay away from drinks. As a result, he was free from the deadly hangover that Yoongi realized he had woken up to nurse. He picked up the towel Jin had propelled at his back and gave Jin a dirty look, his eyes shrinking to the size of slits because of the headache.
Jin barely concealed his laugh. “Take this and freshen up. We’ll be needing to get ready soon. It’s the day of Taehyung’s engagement. The reason why we are here! Remember?” He walked past Yoongi, kicking him softly against his legs, as he did. “If I hadn’t come here to wake you up, you would have slept through the entire day I’m sure. Lazy snail.” Jin laughed, standing at the doorway.
“Thank you so much for waking me up. I’ll repay it by hating you as long as I live.” Yoongi said, eyes still scrunched, but an exaggerated fake wide smile on his lips.
Jin ignored him and said, “Be ready and come to mine and Hobi’s room by an hour.” He left, leaving Yoongi to frown and mutter cuss words under his breath.
As if being in someone else’s bed and house wasn’t enough. Now this terrible headache. He wondered what Hobi must be like. He had drunk throughout the evening and they had lost count of his glasses.
Yoongi decided he needed medicines for his headache. There had to be a nurse or at least a small medicine shop somewhere inside this unnecessarily huge house. He would however have to settle by just crossing the distance over the hall to Taehyung’s room and asking him for pain-killers if he had any.
He was about to get up when he heard a knock on the door and frowned.
“JIN HYUNG! HOBI! TAEHYUNG! JUNGKOOK! WHOEVER YOU ARE JUST GO AWAY. EVAPORATE.”
To his utter dismay, the door creaked open slowly. Yoongi lowered his head into his hands, preparing himself to set free all his choicest cuss words this time on whoever had come to wake him up or hurry him or force him to act human at this moment.
“Suga hyung?”
Yoongi’s head jerked up at the unknown voice. He looked up and recognized Jimin from last night’s meeting. He had a smile on his face but it seemed to be only limited to his lips.
“Ji-Jimin shi?!”
“Hyung I’m sorry to disturb you at this time.”
“Oh no don’t worry about that! Is something wrong? You look about a bit confused.” Yoongi asked, standing up.
“No Hyung…it’s just that…well…”
“What is it? Jimin Shi don’t hesitate, did something happen?”
Jimin laughed in an embarrassed way. “No no hyung! Nothing happened. It’s just that you know…Last night, Taehyung left saying he needed rest. And I haven’t talked to him since. I just went to wake him up some time ago, but the door was locked. I tried calling but he didn’t respond.”
“Oh he must be sleeping. Taehyung is kind of a heavy sleeper, he forgets the world when he’s asleep. You must be knowing that of course.” Yoongi cringed inside at his own words.
Ugh did I just say that?!
Jimin looked down, embarrassed for a second before pretending he hadn’t heard and said, “Hyung, I just came here to ask you…um…don’t know if this is too weird…I know you just met me yesterday, I hope I’m not making you uncomfortable by coming up to you to talk already.” Jimin smiled when Yoongi shook his head vigorously. “But I didn’t know who else to ask. As much as I’ve heard about you from Taehyung, you’re the one everyone goes to with their problems. So…Hyung, do you know if...umm…Is Taehyung, maybe, mad at me over something?”
Yoongi’s mouth fell open. “What? Um no…not that I know of.”
“Then why have I felt like he’s so distant from me since yesterday?”
Yoongi sighed. He looked in Jimin’s face, taking in the boy’s concern.
So what I was fearing is happening. What do I tell you?
“Hyung,” Jimin continued. “Is there something wrong between me and Taehyung?”
Yoongi was at a loss of words. It’s difficult when you know the truth but have to conceal it from someone who’s dying to know the truth, because the truth would break them.
“I…I don’t know Jimin shi.”
“Is it...?” Jimin raised his head once suddenly, meeting Yoongi’s eyes. Jimin’s eyes were intense and full of emotion. Yoongi lowered his eyes. He had liked the boy after talking with him yesterday. He was a good boy and he didn’t deserve to be left in the dark. But what good would come of learning the truth either? It was everything that he did not want to hear.
Jimin sighed, perhaps deciding against asking a question that would be too difficult.
“Never mind Hyung. I probably shouldn’t be overthinking this stuff.” Jimin said, looking down.
“It’s okay Jimin ah.” Yoongi said, smiling. “It’s only natural for you to ask this stuff.”
JImin looked up, smiling, pleased at the drop of honorifics.
“Hyung, it’s just that I love him so much, I get worried about him at times. There was a time when he used to tell me everything. But nowadays I feel like…like he’s a bit distant from me.”
Yoongi stayed silent.
What am I supposed to say? This situation .
“I know everything about his past.” Jimin continued. “I know it’s difficult for him to get over it.”
“You’re a good boy Jimin ah.” Yoongi said. “You were there for Taehyung when we were too busy fighting amongst ourselves. We’re grateful to you for taking care of our friend…And you've accept so much about him. More than I could ever think of.”
“I would be lying if I said it didn’t hurt me at times. But I love him despite that.” Jimin said.
Yoongi stayed quiet for some time. Jimin looked at him, expecting a reply.
“Jimin ah we don’t have a control over who we love.” Yoongi said, instantly regretting his words.
Jimin stared at Yoongi, trying to understand the meaning of this sudden reflection. Slowly, as it dawned on him, his face changed, giving away his shock. A few moments passed before he composed himself.
“Of course…we don’t.” Jimin seemed to be struggling to maintain a cordial voice. “But we fall in love with many people during the course of our life. Not all of them deserve it. The one who loves us…The one who would give everything for our happiness, that’s who we are meant to be with. I told Taehyung this too.”
“Jimin ah, you’re right. Sometimes we fall in love with a person whom someone else loves too. Sometimes more than us. ”
Jimin laughed, a small disbelieving sound, almost like a sneer. He looked up at the ceiling, pursing his lips to compose himself. Yoongi observed him and appreciated that the boy didn’t want to be rude to a senior.
“Loves?” He looked down and met Yoongi’s eyes again, an amused smile on his lips.
“We shouldn’t judge someone from knowing only one half of their story, Jimin ah.” Yoongi said.
“The person who loves us would never hurt us Hyung.” Jimin said, forcefully stopping his smile, but laying stress on the word “love.”
“That’s the way we know who loves us truly.” Jimin’s face had started to redden. “If you love someone you want to be by their side all the time.” Jimin smiled. “You don’t abandon them.”
“Hurt is only a relative term. Sometimes we love someone too much…we don’t truly understand how much. We don’t understand why we want to go to every possible length to protect that person. We are so desperate to shield them from hurt that we are ready to do anything. And sometimes, when we can’t give someone what they want from us at that time, we are even ready to become the villain in their eyes…all to keep them away from the way of hurt.”
Jimin did not say anything. His jaw was quivering, his eyes were red and blazing with emotion. He did not remove his eyes from Yoongi’s.
“Love is a strange thing. Putting a label on it is difficult at times…but there’s always that one person in each of our lives whom we love more than anything else in the world…and all you care about is that they are happy. Anything that could hurt them, you want to keep it miles away from them…Even if it is yourself.”
Jimin remained silent.
“I don’t understand it because I haven’t ever loved anyone that way. But you will…You will understand this.” Yoongi said. “Would you stay away from someone you have shared every moment of your life with? Because you saw them suffering from your presence?”
Jimin inhaled sharply.
“Yoongi hyung. Tell me the truth.”
Yoongi took a step back, astonished. He had said a lot in a wave of emotion but he hadn’t braced himself for this. He wasn’t prepared for a direct confrontation.
“Jimin ah I just meant-…I’m sorry I strayed far away from the topic. I’m talking rubbish coz of my hangover.” Yoongi gave out a nervous laugh, looking away from Jimin.
“Just tell me Hyung.”
“Tell you what?”
“The truth I deserve to know. Tell me everything you know about Taehyung and Jungkook.”
Yoongi recoiled.
I had to bring this on! Aaargh! Why do I always have to do stuff like this? I have no business getting into this messed up triangle!
“Jimin ah…this isn’t the time.”
“This is the only time.”
“It will hurt you Jimin ah.”
“If what I’m guessing is correct, then not knowing the entire truth is going to hurt even more. Me and Taehyung. So tell me.”
