"When the moon covers the sun" Byul's voice echoed in the lecture hall.

Phase I: When Everything Is Safe And Sound, The Moon Is Neutral

The students paid extra attention to the class in particular because of their lecturer. Known widely as the 'heart-throb angel' among boys and 'girl crush' among girls, Byul had been quite famous in the university.

Of course it wasn't just because of her good looks and style, Byul has always been known to be very intelligent. At the age of 29, she has already completed her PhD thus making her one of the youngest professor among her colleagues.

"I could listen to her talk all day long.." A girl whispered to her friend. "There was a time when Miss Byul had a cold and oh my god..her hoarse voice made me had some sinful thoughts"

Wheein, who was seated right behind them accidently heard it and she couldn't help but let out a quiet chuckle.

"Don't mind them" Hyejin, who sat beside her bestfriend blurted.

Wheein turned to look at Hyejin and smiled. "I'm used to it now it somehow becomes funny"

Hyejin frowned. "It's okay to be jealous, you know"

Wheein released a sigh as she looked back to the front. "I know..but what can I do about it? She's just doing her job and these people..well I can understand why they would flirt with her all the time"

"Isn't that just visible? The fact that 90% of her class attendees are her hardcore fan while the other 9.9% are starting to have a crush on her" Hyejin shook her head.

"And where do you stand?" Wheein raised an eyebrow.

"Oh honey I'm in the 0.1% group. I won't flirt with the lecturer that is own by my bestfriend" Hyejin winked.

Hearing it, Wheein couldn't help but blushed. Trying to calm herself, she changed the topic. "Stop it! We're missing out on the lecture"

Byul cleared as her eyes landed on one particular person. "When the moon covers the sun, and the darkness comes up"

Her eyes locked with Wheein's as she continued. "Who would you be?"

Wheein was blushing a while ago and the fact that her bloody hot girlfriend is making straight eye contact with her does not help, at all.

Byul flashed a flirty smile before she averted her gaze to the rest of the audience. "Would you be the light that makes path for other people or would you be the creature that drags the hopeless human into oblivion?"

Fixing her glasses that sat perfectly on the nose bridge, the young professor opened her PowerPoint slideshow.

"I heard from someone, that we have 7 people who looks very similar to us. Do you believe in it?" Byul asked, earning a majority of 'no' from the audience.

"Then there is also something about people going through rebirth, again and again as different persona, to complete their unfulfilled task from the last life. Do you believe in it?" She asked again, earning a lot of 'yes' from her students this time.

"Do you believe in the two, Miss?" Asked a student.

Byul smiled. "Personally? I do. Logically? I'm not too sure but I'm open for any possibilities. I mean there are a lot of things in this world that haven't been discovered yet. And even if they have been found, some of it does not have the explanation"

Wheein heard each word with much concentration. One, because she has always love mystery. Two, she believes that both of the things Byul said are possible. Three, she is sure that those two are possible. Why? Because four, she herself experienced it.

And Byul, did too.

"Try looking at these two paintings" Byul said as she showed two pictures of paintings which looks like her but in two different outfits.

One in a black dress uniform with multiple medal ribbons. The person had a slight smirk on her face as she sat on what looks like a throne.

The other was wearing a male hanbok with red and blue colour, standing proudly with a sword. Her smile was light yet genuine.

The two pictures of the paintings caused a stir in the class. Most of the female students took pictures of the screen as they kept talking about how it looks like their beloved professor.

Hyejin let out a tsk. "These thirsty es" She turned to look at Wheein, who seemed to be in deep thought as she stared at the paintings.

"Wheeinie. You good, hun?" Hyejin asked, concerned about her quiet friend.

"Huh?" Wheein answered softly. "I'm okay" Her eyes couldn't stop staring at the paintings.

This is because she knows them very well. Both of the paintings, from different eras, she knows them too well.

Byul couldn't help but giggle at her students' reaction. "I was surprised when I first saw this too" She admitted. "The person in the black dress uniform is known as gaemul or monster. Well, that's atleast what most of her people call her"

"Gaemul? Why? Is she a bad person?" Another student asked.

"Well, let's just say she's the creature that pulls hopeless human into oblivion" Byul answered. "Nobody really knows her real name..or perhaps they were too afraid to put it in the textbook"

"Wheein-ah..what's wrong?" Hyejin nudged her bestfriend, getting chills over how static Wheein is. Only her eyes are blinking as she still, stares at the paintings.

"Moon Ri.." Wheein muttered, only for herself to hear it. "Moon Ri is her name"

Flashback

Phase II: In Complete Darkness, The Monster Comes Out To Play

"Get it done fast, would you?" The woman in black suit urged, her furrowed eyes threw a glare at the painter.

"Y-yes.." Wheein replied, her hands shaky as she does her work faster.

"Your Highness!" Came a rushing general. "Our troop has been able to conquer Werthe!"

A smirk formed on the 'gaemul' face. "I knew they wouldn't be able to fight us" She spoke. "Wouldn't it be much easier to just hand it over?"

The general laughed as he agreed strongly with his leader. "What do we do now, Your Highness?"

"Kill them" She answered almost immediately.

Wheein stopped her movements when she heard it. Her heart wrenched, hearing the words that came out of Ri's mouth. Wheein had known the older girl since they were little. Yet she questioned, is the person in front of her are the same person that she fell for when they were younger?

"Kill all the useless ones. Keep the kids and make them do some labors. Take the women and train them to work in the kitchen. Anyone who tries to run or fight against us, kill them in front of everyone. So they would know, who they are under now" Moon Ri demanded, her eyes showed nothing but greed.

And greed, was what changed the person that Wheein used to know.

The general went out to fulfill his task, leaving only the 'gaemul' and Wheein in the room.

"Do you hear that, Wheein-ssi? I am extending my empire till one point, they would all cower and bowed for me"

Wheein bit her lower lips. "Is that your happiness now?" She took a courage to ask, her eyes teary.

At the question, Moon Ri turned to look at the other woman. "Isn't it our, happiness?"

Wheein dropped her brush when she shook her head. "No..my happiness does not come from other people's sufferings. My happiness is different from yours"

The taller woman stood up from her throne as she drew nearer to Wheein. She kneeled beside the painter and used her hand to lift Wheein's face so their eyes could meet.

"Don't make me laugh" The taller woman's voice was deep with a tinge of anger. "You wouldn't have been in the same place as me if I didn't pick you from your old dusty home"

"You begged me to come with you" Wheein spat out the fact. "You, did"

The woman tightened her grip on Wheein's jaw. "Past me was weak. I needed someone who knows me well but right now, I can stand on my own. And you? I can throw you out anytime"

Wheein slapped the older woman's hand away as she felt her anger rose. "Do that, Moon Ri. Do that and see yourself slowly dying alone. Because no one, in their own conscience would love a monster like you. No one but me. And you, you know I'm right"

Moon Ri wasn't just mad. She was infuriated yet she doesn't have the heart to hurt Wheein. A part of her would always need the younger woman and she herself, knows, nobody would look her in the eyes and call her by her own name like Wheein does. Nobody could love her, like the younger woman would.

"Finish the painting" Was all the older woman could say before she leaves the room. And Wheein, broke down.

Once the younger woman done with the painting, she was also done with the life she had in the palace. And so Wheein left, after leaving a small note behind her painting. A note that becomes a wish. And a wish that becomes a prayer. And a prayer, that comes true.

End of Flashback

"Moon Ri? Who's Moon Ri?" Hyejin questioned, her left ear was right beside Wheein's lips.

"AH!" Wheein pushed the other woman's head out of reflex when her trance bubble popped.

Hyejin hit her shoulder on the table harshly, causing a loud bumping sound. Everyone, including Byul looked towards their way.

"A bug! It was a big bug! Sorry professor" Wheein faked an explanation rather quickly, which amaze her bruised bestfriend.

All the students turned their head back to the front. Only Byul and Hyejin's eyes are still staring at Wheein.

Wheein mouthed an "I'm fine" along with a smile when Byul looked at her with a concerned face.

The professor released a sigh of relief before she proceeded with her lecture.

"Woah..how can you come up with bug excuse so fast?" Hyejin blinked as she rubbed her shoulder.

"Well I'm not making it up. You are a bug, a big big bug" Wheein replied, purposely teasing her bestfriend.

"The person in this second painting here, is known as Moon Yeo. The very first woman to ever lead a group of great warriors into the battlefield. She was fearless and loyal to her King. But sadly, she was killed by her own country" Byul explained, earning a dissatisfied groan from the students.

"Why the would they do that?!" A male student questioned.

"No swearing, Mr Kang" Byul reminded, receiving a sheepish smile from the boy. "Well, back in the day, rumours also spread very fast. Let's just say that the people in the country weren't too trustful of Moon Yeo. And to be very honest, I could understand why"

Byul moved from her desk and walked up the stairs. "She went to a battlefield with thousa
