Ever Since You Came

Jongin had asked Kyungsoo to come by his house that weekend. Kyungsoo's mom already went back to work, so now he's currently looking for a new job. He hadn't been lucky so far.

Over and over, Kyungsoo pondered what he could have possibly left in Jongin's house. That was why he was on his way there right now. Jongin told him that he had left something important in the Kim's residence. No matter how many times Kyungsoo thought about it, he couldn't remember what he had left.

In a crazy instant, Kyungsoo even thought that Jongin was making up excuses just to see him. But that was impossible. Their relationship was that of a boss and a former housekeeper, nothing more.

Kyungsoo arrived at Jongin's house just before lunch. He was surprised that Jongin still hadn't changed the passcode on the security system. He entered the house and called out Jongin's name. There was no answer.

His mom wasn't there right now because it was her day off. She went to a picnic at the park with her friends. Kyungsoo pulled out his cell phone from his pocket and texted Jongin, asking where he was. He went over to Dooly's little house, Jongin's pet turtle, as he waited for the reply. 'In the garden', was Jongin's simple answer. Kyungsoo bid goodbye to Dooly and strolled to the garden.

Jongin was seated by the oval table in the center of the garden. He was in the middle of reading a book. Kyungsoo snorted when he saw the title. Jongin was reading a book called 'What To Do With Your Money, If You Have Too Many'.

"Nice book." Kyungsoo commented as he sat down beside Jongin.

Jongin shut the book close and placed it on the table. "Don't judge me. Chanyeol gave me this. It's actually very helpful."

Kyungsoo grinned. He was glad to know that Jongin was getting along well with Chanyeol. "Uh-huh. Whatever you say." He noticed that there was also a stack of paper on the table. "So, what's this thing I left at your house? I kept thinking about it, but nothing came to mind."

This time it was Jongin's turn to grin. "Here." He slid the stack of papers across the table towards Kyungsoo. "You left that."

Kyungsoo stared at the papers and made a face. He couldn't remember a time that he had ever brought some kind of document at Jongin's house. "This is not mine," he replied, looking up at Jongin.

"Read it." Jongin simply instructed.

So that's what Kyungsoo did. His naturally wide eyes widened even more when he read what was written on the paper. The documents turned out to be a contract for Kyungsoo.

Jongin was hiring Kyungsoo to be his personal assistant.

"Are you serious right now?" Kyungsoo blurted out when he was done reading.

"A hundred and one percent serious." Jongin answered, a satisfied smile pasted on his face.

"But Jongin---"

"Nah-uh-uh." Jongin cut him off, wiggling a finger at Kyungsoo. "No buts. Only, thank you very much, Jongin. You're the best boss ever," he said in a shrilly voice. Then he laughed. But Kyungsoo didn't laugh with him.

"T-this is too much." Kyungsoo stuttered. He couldn't believe what was happening. Jongin was giving him a chance of a lifetime.

"Oops. Wrong answer," Jongin retaliated.

Kyungsoo's mind was whirling. Should he take the job or not? But what was there to think about, really? This job would end Kyungsoo's unemployed life. After a while, Kyungsoo said, "Thank you, Jongin. I mean it. Thank you so much for this."

Jongin just smiled. "No 'you're the best boss ever'?" he teased. "Well, that's fine for now." He clasped his hands together. "Let's make it official then. Sign the contract, Mr. Do Kyungsoo." Jongin handed a pen to Kyungsoo.

The amount of zeroes on the payment Kyungsoo would be getting monthly was more than satisfactory. But this time, it's not just about the money. This time, Kyungsoo wanted to be there for Jongin. Kyungsoo signed the contract joyfully. He was already looking forward in working for Jongin again.

The suit Kyungsoo was dressed in felt uncomfortable. He wasn't used to wearing formal clothes. Jongin had sent him the suit one day before he started with his new job. Kyungsoo couldn't possibly not wear it.

Jongin had even offered that he would fetch Kyungsoo at his house and they would go to the company together. But Kyungsoo had declined and said that he could manage on his own. The kindness Jongin was giving him was already too much to handle.

Kyungsoo's palms were sweating as he rode the elevator up to Jongin's office located on the top floor. Jongin had informed Kyungsoo that his desk was already prepared. Kyungsoo didn't know what to bring with him on his first day. In the end, he had brought the necessities: his cell phone, wallet, house key, a handkerchief, an extra toothbrush, and a change of clothing.

Everyone in the company was aware that Jongin liked to do everything on his own. He didn't even have a secretary. So the news that Jongin had hired a new personal assistant spread like wildfire in the company. Kyungsoo was the talk of the town.

Kyungsoo stood in front of the glass sliding door of Jongin's office. The blinds surrounding the office went up slowly, then the door slid open automatically. Kyungsoo was gaping, totally fascinated with the technology. Jongin was seated on his desk, scanning through some documents.

Kyungsoo entered the office. "Good morning, Jong-- I mean, good morning, Mr. Kim," he said when he realized that he wasn't the temp housekeeper anymore. He was now Jongin's personal assistant. He shouldn't call Jongin so casually when in the company.

Jongin brushed a hand in the air. "No need to be so polite, Kyungsoo. Just call me like you always do. I don't mind."

"Oh. Okay." Kyungsoo replied, blinking. "Good morning, Jongin," he repeated his greeting.

Jongin chuckled. "Good morning, Kyungsoo." He gave Kyungsoo a once-over, an appreciative smile formed on his face. "The suit looks good on you."

Kyungsoo's cheeks flushed at the compliment. He averted his gaze from Jongin and opted to stare at a painting on the wall. "Nice painting," he said absentmindedly.

But Jongin didn't miss how Kyungsoo's cheeks reddened, all the way up to his ears. He thought that his new assistant had a cute side too.

"Where's my desk, by the way?" Kyungsoo asked when his heartbeat had calmed down.

Jongin suddenly stood up, then he walked over to the table that was on the other side of the room. "Here's your desk," he said, smiling that dashing smile of his.

"Huh? My desk is inside your office?" Kyungsoo said dumbly. He glanced from the desk to Jongin's face. He waited for Jongin to take it back and tell him that it was only a joke. But none of that happened. Jongin was serious.

"You're my personal assistant. You answer only to me, and no one else." Jongin said sternly. Then he smiled awkwardly and said, "I need you to be always by my side," he paused. Jongin bit his lower lip. "What I mean to say is that I need you to be near me in case I have something for you to do."

"Oh." Kyungsoo managed to emit. He ignored the little voice in his head that was screaming that Jongin was being possessive with him. And most of all, Kyungsoo didn't hate it.
