SEPTEMBER 15
Yewon was nervous the whole first day she was at school. Her main focus was music of course but she had to take other classes - at least that's what her scholarship says. She hated having to socialize and having four classes a day wore her out. She had her singing lessons, guitar, piano, and acting. She wasn't even sure why she picked acting instead of visual arts but it was too late to change her mind now. But she knew she had to focus because if she didn't do well, working her off getting this scholarship would be a waste of time.
Her classes were over now and she glanced at the clock - 3:30 PM. Her eyes darted around and she squeezed Eunbi's handkerchief in her palm before racing through the halls, her guitar still strapped around her body, trying her best to catch up to the dancer.
"Wait!" She yelped, immediately catching the other's attention as she shrugged on her windbreaker.
Eunbi was confused and she stood still with her dufflebag over her shoulder, a white baseball cap on her head, and her hand tightly wrapping around the bottle she had in her hand. All she could see was a girl, just a tad shorter than her, running to where she was and her guitar case bouncing on her back. She sighed and rolled her eyes back while Yewon stopped and began panting to catch her breath. "You again?" Eunbi spoke coldly, her arms folded just across her chest. "Didn't I tell you to leave me alone? Music majors should never step in our halls."
Yewon was still heaving. The weight of her guitar and her guitar case didn't help make it any better. Once she had the energy to straighten up, she stared at Eunbi. The way her expression seemed to soften just a tad bit when she looked at Yewon had Yewon's heart weak and beating faster. Eunbi on the other hand couldn't resist but stare at the shorter girl a little more, admiring the way her bangs framed her face to look more innocent and how her cheeks were a bit red from running so much. But she quickly snapped out of it and grabbed her duffle bag a little harder.
"Whatever," Eunbi laughed. "I'm out of here. Don't bother me again and I don't want to see you talking to my dancers. Got that?"
"But-"
"I said don't talk to me. Plus you look stupid carrying that guitar around."
Yewon was shocked. How could a stranger be so rude? She watched Eunbi walk away and she looked back down at the mint green cloth crinkled in her palm. Her head was hurting from the stress of her classes and her situation right now was making it worst. She doesn't know what came over here but somehow she found the courage to grab Eunbi by her shoulder and force her back around to face her. Eunbi scoffed and clenched her fists tightly before speaking again.
"Do you not understand what-"
She was cut off when Yewon forced her palm open and placed the handkerchief in a soft yet irritated motion, her eyes widening from surprise.
"I don't care what major you're in," Yewon glared before squeezing her eyes shut and breathing in deeply. "You dropped this yesterday and you refused to listen to me, yet here I am giving back to you because I'm a nice person."
"I-"
"Don't worry. I'll make sure I won't talk to you ever again."
Yewon shook her head and held the straps of her guitar case tightly, storming away from Eunbi. Eunbi stared down at the cloth. She couldn't believe her eyes. Just last night she was on the verge of tears of losing the handkerchief her grandmother gave her before passing. Her hands were trembling from happiness and guilt. Yewon didn't deserve what happened to her today and she needed to apologize as soon as she could.
PRESENT DAY
Eunbi was a crying mess. She kept staring at her phone and continued dialing Yewon's number. She was curled up on her bed, her hoodie hiding her swollen and reddened eyes. She missed Yewon even more now. After seeing her at the cafe, she couldn't stop thinking about her. Her thumb swiped across her screen, pressing Yewon's number every chance she could get but nothing.
"Yewon, please.."
She was whispering to herself now and her grip on her phone tightened. She didn't know what to do but she wanted to hear her voice again.
She tried one last time and exhaled a hurt sigh. Three rings passed and just as she was about to hang up, Yewon picked up the phone.
"Yewon?!" Eunbi's voiced cracked softly and shot up from the bed, her phone pressed against her ear. She sniffled, her tone weak yet desperate. "Are you there, Yewon?"
Eunbi listened carefully. She couldn't hear anything but small and gentle hitching breaths on the other end. She knew she was crying and she took it upon herself to speak again. "Yewon, I.. I'm really sorry. I know I hurt you and I can't express en
