PRESENT DAY

"It's interesting to see you in this building," Yuna spoke up with a tray of food in her hands as she stood behind Eunbi who was already seated with her food. The dancer noticed and immediately stood up and bowed, but the singer laughed as she shook her head. "No need. We're in New York, bowing doesn't really exist here. Can I sit with you?"

Eunbi was confused but nodded dumbly anyway, allowing Yuna to make her way across from her so they could sit and eat lunch together. The first few minutes were awkward, dead, and unnerving silence - at least for Eunbi. Yuna seemed calm and enjoyed what she bought from the counter, leaving the dancer confused as to why she'd sit with her. Yuna had to know what she did to Yewon, right?

"Why aren't you eating?" Yuna asked, wiping her fingertips with a napkin.

Eunbi opened to speak, but she stopped because of hesitation. "Well, because.. How do I put it.." She exhaled. "Why do you want to sit with me?"

Yuna gradually placed her chopsticks down, a bit baffled at the other's question. "Well, I asked... And you said yes--"

"No," Eunbi interrupted. "Yewon told me all of her friends hate me. Are you not her friend?"

"Of course I'm her friend," the singer laughed. "I don't hate you. I did strongly dislike you for some time, but, I'm sure you learned your lesson."

Eunbi huffed slightly as she finally lifted her chopsticks so she could begin eating. "Yeah, you're telling me."

Yuna finished her food much quicker than Eunbi, but she didn't mind. She sat quietly, occasionally sipping some of her iced coffee. Her gaze followed Eunbi's movements and a lot of things were going on in her mind. For example, why did Yewon like her? What did Eunbi have that she didn't? What could she have done so that Yewon liked her instead? To this day, Yuna still had feelings for Yewon. She wasn't sure when it first started, but it was most likely after Yewon's performance at the festival Eunbi first missed. 

"You know," Yuna started again. "You were really lucky to have Yewon."

"Hm?" Eunbi lifted her head once more. "What do you mean?"

SEOUL ARTS INSTITUTE

AUGUST 19

Yewon held her hands in front of her and squeezed her eyes shut so that she could make a wish in her hand. It took her a bit of time, but soon puckered her lips to blow out the candle. Yuna smiled, unwrapping the cupcake for the latter as she watched her take a bite.

“So..” the older smiled softly. “What’d you wish for?”

Yewon simply let out a small sigh and stared at the cupcake for a while. She was a bit hesitant to tell Yuna.

But Yuna had a curious gaze. She really wanted to know what Yewon wished for. 

“If I tell you, it won’t come true.” Yewon laughed, grabbing the cupcake so she could unwrap the pastry. She took a small bite and the frosting from her upper lip easily. “Besides, it’s not that big of a wish.”

“If it’s not that big of a wish, then you should tell me,” Yuna smiled, scooting herself closer to the other singer while pouting. “Come on. Maybe I can help make it come true?”

“Doubt it,” she exhaled while continuing to eat the dessert, feeding the rest to Yuna. She glanced up at her friend momentarily and saw that she was leaning in closer to try and get her to fess up. “Okay! Okay..”

“It always works,” Yuna grinned. “So. What is it?”

Yewon crumpled the wrapper of the cupcake in her palm just to play with it and also to distract herself. “I wished for Eunbi to be happier, even if I’m not there.. Because obviously, I wasn’t enough.”

A frown almost immediately appeared on Yuna’s lips. “You know that’s not true..”

“It is,” Yewon smiles sadly. “If I made her happy, then that means we’d still be friends right now. And she would’ve never said those nasty things to me.”
