P R O L O G U E

The numerous bamboos stems looked almost like black long rods in the shadows; what allowed me to recognize them to be bamboo stems was the pathetic amount of pale light thrown from the full moon above. Even then, everything was a dark blur.

I was running and my shortening breaths seemed to be cracking down the fragile silence in this forest. But it wasn’t the only thing breaking the tranquility of this un-ventured area.

There were footsteps too, more than one, too many to be counted, I heard them through the sounds of broken branches and fallen leaves upon their feet.

They were pursuing someone.

It’s me. They were pursuing me. They want something from me and I knew enough to know that it wouldn’t be something pleasant.

I was supposed to be afraid. I should be frightened out of my wits in this type of situation.

Yes, I was scared. But even more so…I was strangely calm.

I pondered over this strange situation till I felt something tightened around my left hand. My eyes trailed down and caught sight of another hand’s outline around mine.

There and then, as the side of my lips twitched upwards despite the frightening atmosphere, I found my answer.

He was the reason why.

I glanced up and stared into the back view of this man before me. He was breathing as furiously I was, perhaps even more because he was pulling the sluggish me along. But his hand was still on mine, never letting go. Feeling his hold over my hand was indescribable to me. I can’t believe how safe I feel in it. Even though at the back of my head, where everything was screaming at the inevitable doom before us, I felt safe.

I felt safe with him.

Until an arrow zipped past me from behind and struck right into his left shoulder blade…

The characters in the story ARE NOT related/relevant to my other stories though I will be using same fictional names (thanks to my lack of creativity in naming people). There will be plenty of dream scenes in this story and they are not going in sequence. So do pardon me if you get confused when the scenes starts becoming random. Lastly, first person perspective will be typed in BLACK, while third-person perspective will be written in BLUE
