Found (kid!Onkey)

drabbles

Imagine your OTP as kids. The original prompt was “Person A is hiding for hide-and-seek, and Person B wants to hide with them,” but I tweaked it a little.

Pairing: Kid!Onkey (Jinki x Kibum) ~680 words

Author’s Note: Jinki & Kibum are the same age, which is Korean five years old (International four years old).

“—7… 8… 9… 10! Ready or not, here I come!!” Kibum yelled as he opened his eyes, turning around from his spot against the trunk of a large tree. Kibum’s eyes strained to adjust to daylight after having been closed. He scanned the yard for any obvious hiding spots, but Jinki was nowhere to be seen.

No way. He actually hid? Kibum thought to himself.

Their previous attempts at hide-and-seek had not been successful.

Attempt #1

Jinki had not made any attempt to hide at all, just standing in plain view when Kibum had finished counting and turned around.

“Jinki, I can see you!” Kibum complained. “You’re supposed to hide from me.”

Jinki’s bottom lip began to tremble. “B-but I don’t want to hide by myself. I know!” Jinki exclaimed, smiling as if he had come up with the perfect solution to their problem. “—Come hide with me!”

“No, that’s not how the game works!” Kibum said exasperatedly.

“B-but I don’t wanna.” Jinki continued to whine.

“Then we can’t play!” Kibum said. Hide-and-seek had been Kibum’s idea. He had learned to play last week and now was obsessed with the game. Kibum’s single condition for playing with Jinki today was that they played hide-and-seek, which is how they came to be playing now. “If we’re not going to play, then I’ll just go home!” Kibum said threateningly.

“Nnnnooooo!!!” came Jinki’s response.

Attempt #2

Kibum found Jinki in the easiest hiding spot.

“Yay! You found me!” Jinki popped out behind the bush with a big smile. “Yay!”

Kibum just shook his head vigorously, a single “No” leaving his lips.

But this time, Jinki was nowhere to be found. Kibum looked in all the obvious hiding spots and then the not-so-obvious hiding spots, looking over the entire yard. Kibum continued to search for Jinki, the minutes felt like hours.

Eventually, Kibum ran out of places to search. Oh! He had forgotten about the hollow log in the corner of the yard. That must be where Jinki was hiding, Kibum thought excitedly as he ran across the yard. Kibum yelled, “I found you!!!” as he ducked down to look inside the log, but there was no one there. Jinki was in fact not hiding inside the log either.

Kibum was starting to get scared. He had no idea where Jinki was at all! Kibum’s eyes began to water out of frustration. What had happened to his friend? He sat down in the log, folding his legs up as he started to cry in earnest.

Kibum leaned his head back, looking up at the roof of the hollow log where a sizeable hole let daylight come in when he heard a small rustling sound as the walls of the hollow log shifted. Kibum turned towards the sound quickly and was startled to discover Jinki sitting next to him, facing the opposite direction. Jinki started to speak, “I did a good job right—” Jinki was unable to finish his sentence as Kibum launched his body towards him, his arms going to wrap around Jinki.

“Where did you go?!” Kibum wailed as he pulled away.

“I hid like you told me to.” Jinki said matter-of-factly, puzzled by Kibum’s reaction.

Kibum shook his head vigorously. “NO!!! Don’t do that again! I don’t like it.” Kibum said, crying harder than before, but this time out of relief.

“Kibummie, what’s wrong?! Why are you crying?” Jinki asked as he moved to hug Kibum tightly, wrapping his short arms around Kibum snugly.

In between little sobs as Kibum cried on Jinki’s shoulder, he sniffled “H-hide and-d s-seek is a stupid game!”

Jinki nodded, this was the wisest thing Kibum had said all day.

Now when they play hide-and-seek with the other kids at school, the two little boys always hide together, Jinki following Kibum and then just silently slipping in to hide next to him. They’ve developed quite the little reputation of being expert hiders when in truth, they often just forget that they were playing with other kids altogether and just end up playing with each other.
