CHAPTER 27: Gift

“Kwak Hanna, please get ready.” The staff told Hanna to get ready for her turn.

Hanna nodded and checked the reflection of her in the mirror. Her makeup was fixed and her outfit was fine. She was ready.

Minhyun held her hand quick but firm as he smiled before letting her walk following the staff.

Hanna stepped onto the stage and was showered by the lights and the claps from the audience. Different from before, she was now more confident.

She made a glance to her right side and found them, her friends were really there. Everything was clearer now, she could see something she couldn’t see before. That the audience were not laughing at her, they were not cursing her for being nervous, they just anticipate her performance, they just want to enjoy it. So, what Hanna needed to do just to give what they want. I’ll sing this song for you.

And then she started to sing.

Everyone was clapping.

Standing in the center of the stage, Hanna didn’t care what the judge panel nor the other contestants who saw her performance were thinking. What she knew, she just gave her best. She didn’t even care about the result, she just successfully deliver the song to the people who wanted to hear it. And all of those feeling made her smile.

And she knew, it wasn’t only her who was smiling now. The angel who just helped her must have smiling too.

“You did great!”

“Amazing!”

“You’re really pretty, Hanna ya.. My heart nearly skipped a beat seeing you on stage!”

Those were the words that flying from her friends who see her after the show ended.

“Even though you’re not winning, but you win my heart, Kwak Hannaaa..” Ong still didn’t stop with his flirty words to Hanna and it got the others laughing, except one particular person who endlessly throwing a smirk to Ong.

Hanna didn’t win the competition, but she didn’t sad. She didn’t feel any ounce of sad actually. She was really happy and also really grateful that from this event she realized that she is loved by many people.

As they went home, Aaron, Minki, and Dongho couldn’t stop telling how much they enjoy the show, how great performance Hanna made and also other contestants’. Dongho even liked one of the contestants, telling that she has a great voice and pretty face. He even asked Hanna to help him get her phone number.

All the nervous feeling in the beginning of the day was disappeared and replaced with the laughter. Hanna thought, No matter how the world would crumble, if I still have them by my side, I think I can get through it happily.

The overflowing grateful feeling she had, made Hanna shed a tear.

Minhyun was directly mouthing ‘Why?’ in worry.

Hanna silently wiped her tears while mouthing ‘It’s okay’ and smiled at him.

Thanks God for sending these angels for me.

It was already night when they reached the house, the parents welcomed Hanna with comfort words as expected, but soon they decided to leave to give her time to rest. When the others were already going back to their houses, Hanna ran to catch Minhyun.

“Minhyun ah..”

“Oh?” Minhyun turned to see Hanna approaching him.

She stopped in front of him and looked contemplating. But in the end, she could say, “Thank you..”

Minhyun smiled. “You have said it multiple times, Hanna.. When will you—“

“But I feel the need to tell it to you directly.. Like this.” Hanna cut his words.

Minhyun was silent. He lost in Hanna’s stare.

“I’m really thankful for today. I’m really grateful to have you by my side, Minhyun ah..”

Minhyun opened his eyes widely, couldn’t believe Hanna’s choice of words. He was actually flying to the seventh sky at the moment, but he started coughing, trying to hide it.

Not enough with that words, Hanna stepped closer to Minhyun.

What surprised him more was when she took off her choker and gave it to him. “Here, a gift for you..”

Minhyun frowned, “This choker??”

“That’s the replacement for a coupon.” Hanna simply answered.

But it got Minhyun more confused. “A coupon?”

“A wish granted coupon.” Hanna explained fast. “You don’t remember? We used to give it as a birthday gift when we were child.”

“Aaah, the coupon that makes the person who get it can ask everything to the person who give it?” Minhyun asked.

Hanna nodded. “Yeah, so you can ask me anything in the future, buying you a figurine, or comic, or anything.. But only once!”

With that Minhyun chuckled, “I didn’t do anything for you to give me this, Hanna.. And what’s this? It’s a choker not a coupon!”

“Hish, I told you that’s a replacement. I don’t have a paper nor a pen now, so just take it.” Hanna told him firmly.

Minhyun smiled seeing this childish side of Hanna. “Okay, I’ll take it. You better be prepared, Hanna. I will ask you the most expensive thing.”

“That choker even already expensive, you punk!” Hanna wanted to hit Minhyun but he could avoid it while laughing.

“Why’d you want to hit the person you are grateful to be by your side, Hanna?” Minhyun started to .

She felt a bit embarrased by her choice of words, so she didn’t know how to reply him now. “Just go home..”

But Minhyun didn’t stop. “Do you really like it when I’m with you, uh? Can you say it again?”

“Hish, stop it, Hwang Minhyun! Just go..” Hanna even needed to push him out of her house yard.

Minhyun smiled broadly.  “Okay, good night you, the one whom really happy to have me.. Dream of me, Hanna!”

“Geez.. “ Hanna shivered by his words, but then waved her hands at him while smiling.
