Part 1
The Unromantic NovelistThe truth was Jaejoong never experienced love. He had had girlfriends and was still in a relationship but he was never able to like someone. He had many break ups. His girlfriends complained that he couldn’t become the perfect boyfriend for them. But he still didn’t care.
Jaejoong’s phone vibrated and he took it out from his pocket.
“Oppa wanna go out somewhere tonight?”
Jaejoong was about to reply ‘sure’ but then he remembered he had plans with his friends for the weekend.
“Sorry Eunha, can’t come. A little busy.” He simple replied and put his phone back in his jeans pocket. It vibrated again and he took it out.
“I’m sorry. Hope you find someone better than me. Good bye.”
Jaejoong wrote his reply and place his phone back in his pocket but after sometime it vibrated again.
“Don’t be sorry. It was my mistake to drag you in all this. Hope we can still be friends.”
“Of course.”
Jaejoong sent the message and frowned. If she still wants to be friends then she’s gonna bug him all day again.
“Ehem!”
Jaejoong looked up to see his sister standing infront of him.
“Noona! How did the checkup go? Is the baby alright?”
“Yes, the baby’s fine. But you tell me mister, who were you talking to with such determination that you didn’t notice me standing here.
“My girlfriend.” Jaejoong replied with a blank expression.
“Really? That’s great.”
“We broke up.”
“Huh?” Jaejoong’s sister made a shocked face but Jaejoong just stood up and shrugged.
“Why don’t you get hyung to come with you , eh? My hurts from sitting all day here.”
“Its only been half an hour Jae. Besides, your hyung is busy these days you know he’s got a new project in hand.”
“Heh. Some husband he is.” Jaejoong put his hands in his pockets and started walking outside with his sister following behind.
“I don’t get it. You write such amazing novels about love and all but you’re a total unromantic person in real life. You’ve had eight breakups and never had a serious relationship and you’re in your last year of university, having an actual job. Don’t you wanna spend a happy and stable life? Having a pretty wife cooking food for you, little mini Joongies running around the house? Don’t you want your own family Jae?”
“First of all, all of my past girlfriends were jealous of me ‘cause they thought I was prettier than them. Second, I can cook for myself thank you very much. Third, I don’t like kids. They’re evil! And last but not least. No! I don’t want a happy family. I have my hands full with all of you nine sisters already.” Jaejoong started the car and made a grumpy face. “And besides if I’d be romantic with the ladies then I’ll lose money but being romantic while writing will bring me money, no?”and there was silence. His sister knew that he was lying. Jaejoong loved kids, he couldn’t live without his nieces and nephews. Though he didn’t like others cooked for him, he always cooked for others. He always watched his parents with sparkling eyes and when he was young he used to say he’s gonna have a family like umma and appa. But sadly since his sixteenth birthday, he became fed up with all this love and stuff. But then her mind clicked. He’s always dated girls. What if….
“Are you gay?”
“Don’t think so.”
“God! I thought you’d freak out and say noona! Why’d you think that?”
“Why would I freak out. What if I am.” Jaejoong narrowed his eyes towards his sister then focused on the road again. “I never dated men. Never thought anyone was attractive enough.” Then suddenly his eyes widened. “Eww… I’m not like Heechul. I’d never kiss a guy. Or maybe I could if that guy would be according to my standards. Or-”
“You’re talking to yourself again.”
“Oh…yeah…” Jaejoong scratched the back of his neck and resumed the driving.
.
“Do you want a drink?” Junsu said in a loud voice.
“What?” Jaejoong couldn’t hear his friend over the loud music of the club.
“I said Do you want a drink??” Junsu shouted even louder. After understanding what Junsu meant Jaejoong give him a thumbs up. Junsu brought a glass and a bottle of soju he poured some of it in the glass and handed it over to Jaejoong. Jaejoong instead of taking the glass snatched the bottle away from Junsu’s hand and took three long gulps of the liquid.
“I’m going to go dance.” Jaejoong shouted and jumped into the crowd. Junsu smiled at his friend’s never ending energy and started swaying with the music himself and walked towards the crowd to join the dance floor. Both of the university students had the dance floor in control. They were dancing like crazy, in a good way. After a good round of dancing the two of them stopped. Jaejoong went straight to the bar to grab another drink. He gulped a full bottle of soju.
“Don’t get drunk! I’m not gonna drag your back home.” Junsu shouted. But Jaejoong was already out of it. He was smiling constantly and started jumping around with the music again.
“Ah! Ajumma. I’m so so sorry. I’ll help you.” Jaejoong said in a sleepy voice and sat down to pick up the stuff. The woman sat down too to pick up the things. “By the way… What are you… doing here? Its past 1 am.”
“Unlike you I don’t have time to waste money on useless stuff. I have to get home and get my children something to eat.”
“At this hour?”
“I was at work. Late night shift.”
“Oh… What do you work?”
“At a bakery.” She sighed and put a potato in the shopping bag she was holding. “I have an architecture’s degree. But I didn’t get a job anywhere. So I started working at a bakery.”
Jaejoong looked at her with a shocked expression. Suddenly he wasn’t drunk anymore. He felt sorry for the woman. She was struggling for a job even with a high degree and here he was studying literature and earning money and wasting them at the same time. Then an idea popped up into in mind.
“Ajumma! What if I can help?”
“What do you mean you can help? You’re drunk kid.” The woman eyed Jaejoong strangely.
“My hyung… He’s an architect. He can help.” Jaejoong took out his wallet and took out his brother in law’s business card. That’s strange he never carried it with him. Oh well. He gave it to the woman.
“H-he works in the Kim’s construction company?” The woman looked at him with large eyes.
“Well I should’ve been working there… But since he’s the good son in law, he’s doing the job. My… my parents don’t mind.” Jaejoong spoke and gestured with his hands, he was feeling drunk again.
“You must be a great son for your parents to be Ok with that.”
“Actually I do have a job.” Jaejoong sat down comfortably and the woman did so too. “I’m a writer. I write novels.”
“What kind of novels?”
“Love stories.”
“You must be really popular among the girls then.”
Jaejoong laughed, “Hahaha! No its the total opposite. I just got dumped today.”
“Oh my! Why is that?”
“Why should I tell you my personal things? Huh? You’re a stranger.” Jaejoong narrowed his eyes towards the woman. “Its because I don’t like her.” Jaejoong crossed his legs. “You know I got dumped eight times this year. I think I’m done for. I can’t date anymore!”He whinned.
“You know, everyone’s got ‘the one’ in their life. You’ve got a long life ahead of you. You’ll find him eventually.”
“Really? When?”
“Maybe tomorrow. Oh and thanks for the card. I appreciate the help and no need to thank me.”
“What do you mean?”
The woman got up and smiled. “You’ll know.”
“Jaejoong!” Jaejoong looked back and Junsu was standing behind him. “Why are you talking to yourself? You must be REALLY drunk.”
“What?” Jaejoong scratched the back of his head, feeling awfully dizzy now. “Wh-where’s… the… ajumma?”
“Who?” Junsu frowned.
“That… lady…architect…” Jaejoong started mumbling as his eyelids were getting heavier and heavier.
“Yah! Wake up! I can’t carry you.” Junsu whinned supporting Jaejoong’s weight.
“I’ll meet him soon… Tomorrow… I’ll meet him tomorrow…”Jaejoong kept mumbling and fell into deep sleep.
.
Jaejoong opened his eyes. His vision was blurry and his head hurt like hell. He sat up holding his head and groaned. “Stupid hangover.”
“Jaejoong!” Jaejoong heard a scream which was probably from his sister. He got up and was about to fall down ‘cause his head was spinning but he got a hold of the chair infront of him and then ran outside.
“Noona! Are you alright?” He shouted, worry written all over his face.
“We have to go to the hospital.” His sister said in pain, holding her stomach. “Hurry.”
“Oh…”
